Yes, we did get caught doing something we want to hide. My husband and I are a rather private couple and would be so embarrassed if anyone saw us 'playing' together. At the back of the unit is a very worn sticker, like a bar code, it looks like it might say 5026686 036640, don't know if that is what we need. No, we did not expect it to record us - we were told to press record when we wanted it to start recording. We have now learnt that it records everything unless we are viewing a recording. My husband and I became a little over-affectionate, and I am sure you can imagine what happened! We are a rather private couple, not into pornography, and would be so embarrassed if this was seen by anyone else.

I have absolutely no idea what system it is! Just 'digital video recorder' on the box.
