Actually it's up to your special needs. If you want to have pretty high quality picture, H.264 is your choice. But if your requirements is not so high, MPEG4 is enough. What's more, H.264, with the latest in video compression technology, can save you much HDD. So if you want to keep your DVR recording continuously for a long time, then H.264, orelse, MPEG4 can meet you need. Set up motion detection can save your HDD. Make a wise choice according to your needs. Best regards!

installing new home security cam... recommendations pls.
katie1985 replied to mycctv's topic in General Digital Discussion
Not all the systems with comprehensive functions are the best. You know systems with comprehensive functions will cost you much which is not worthwhile. You'd better first make clear your requirements, and then get some live support from those websites. They will recommend you the best proper one. Anyway, the most cost-effective one is the most ideal one. Never try to follow the price or function, for some functions are not must. Best regards! -

Hello! Actually different people have different needs... When you choose the best cctv solution for yourself or for your friends, you should first make clear about your or their requirements exactly, as for dvr, such as how many channels, if with DVD RW backup, if need remote access via 3G mobile, and the capacity of HDD and etc; for cameras, should pay more attention to the resolution, frame rate, and if for outside use, should be weather-proof, or vandal-proof for some other use, also vari-focal and high resolution should be in someone's consideration... Hope this can help you a little! Best regards!

Please help!! New to this Forum and Security Camera
katie1985 replied to kenjidm's topic in General Digital Discussion
Since your requirements are not high, so you can choose those entry level DVRs which is much cheaper, and 4 channle is ok for you. Then choose some proper cameras according to your needs, ie, weather-proof, or vandal-proof, or night vision, or high resolution. Anyway you should first make clear where you will mount those cameras? Then make good choice according people's suggestion... Good luck! -

Latest video format used in CCTV for processing video clips
katie1985 replied to mohanjshelar's topic in General Digital Discussion
H.264 uses the latest innovations in video compression technology to provide incredible video quality from the smallest amount of video data. This means you see crisp, clear video in much smaller files, saving you bandwidth and storage costs over previous generations of video codecs. H.264 delivers the same quality as MPEG-2 at a third to half the data rate and up to four times the frame size of MPEG-4 Part 2 at the same data rate. H.264 is truly a sight to behold. -
As you need, you want to see people's face clearly, so high resolution is necessary, and night vision is also needed. Also cameras have indoor or outdoor, you know, if need weather-proof, outdoor vandal-proof and weather-proof will be better. Remember to mount the camera upside down. You know you just mount it high on the door, so this is important.

Sorry, hehe I just thought almost all of the people have their own PC, so just need a DVR Card. And DVR Card is more cheaper than standalone DVR.
-
I think first you should consider how many channels do you want, since it is for your convenience store which should not be too large, so 4 channel is enough. And also compression format,H.264 is the best. Also remote access, almost all have this function. For HDD, 1TB is ok for you...Then you need high resolution cameras, 480 or 540 TV Line is ok, and then should make sure if you need cameras with PTZ function or night vision, almost all cameras now has night vision. Above just for reference, hope it can help you a little!

ok i got couple cameras at home , can you point me to some diy ??i got old dell computer which i can use as dvr so if you can point me to some DIY i would appreciate it thz wizzy Hello! I am sorry to tell you that maybe your pc can not be use as DVR. It can be only used as monitor from which you can view the videos. But you still need DVR to record, and then you can play bcak or view through pc or 3G mobile. In addition, DVR has two kinds: pc-based and standalone. PC-based is much cheaper than the second one, sinece you have pc, maybe you can only buy a DVR Card, then you can overlook your properties. Best regards!

Looking for the best DVR for my needs (with details!)
katie1985 replied to Sandals's topic in General Digital Discussion
Actually you needs can be reached. 16 channel DVR with 30fps per channel, HDD installed and SATA interface can be upgrade to 1TB, with DVD RW for backup options...remote access via internet or via 3G mobile and smart phones...and etc. You can google, and should be many references... -
A good DVR should be measured in many aspects. Generally speaking, DVR can be divided into two kinds: Standalone DVR and PC-based. Obviously, Standalone is much more expensive than PC-based. Atandalone DVR is more reliable, while pc-besed is more cheaper and flexible. When you want to buy a DVR, you should first see their functions. Such as how many channels do you want? And if is comes with HDD installed or DVD RW backup? And also resolution as well as displaying and recording frame rate is also important. Some support remote access via 3G or smart mobile while others only via internet. Have a good consideration of all aspects, and then make decisions...

zooming on a wanted snapshot
katie1985 replied to captainjack05's topic in General Digital Discussion
Resolution is measured in megapixels. The higher the megapixels, the sharper and more detailed the pictures your digital camera can take, and the bigger you can enlarge them without losing the sharpness of the image. 3.1 megapixels and higher is usually considered sufficient for print-quality photos. Photos with a resolution of less than 3.1 megapixels are best viewed only on computers. As your problem, you can use vector image to enlarge your blurred pictures... -
Advice on new home install: Sony HQ1, IR Illums, 16ch DVR?
katie1985 replied to Uter's topic in General Digital Discussion
If you like, I think a vandal-proof camera will be better, which can defend any fierce violence with metal housing. -
Actually you should make clear what kind of cameras do you need... You need 9 channel DVR, so you need 9 cameras to connect to... About these 9 cameras, you should know where you will palce, and then you can make a decision about types of cameras, indoors or outdoors or weatherproof or something else... ————————-
