    DVR040 wont detect HDD

Hi Scorpion, Sorry for not responding earlier. Really appreciate your comments and guidance. The DVR040 that i have supports IDE drive only. When i bought it i got a SATA drive and then had to buy a IDE/SATA converter for it - but the converter didnt fit in. So i had to buy an IDE drive then. The new IDE is detectable on a PC. I have given it to the people whom i bought it from and will pass your comments to them as well. One question though, i noted there is a battery on the circuit board, i remember when my previous hard drive was going south, and i was hard booting the system, i further also tried to take that battery out and then put back in. It seems to be back in place but i was wondering if that would cause some issue. Thanks again and best regards, ashir
  2. Hello, I have a DVR040 for about a year now. Initially it had a 250 GB (IDE) drive in it. This drive went bad some time back. This time i got a (new) 160 GB drive. In both cases, the brand was WD (Western Digital). For some reason the DVR wont recognize this new drive and it keeps showing me 'No HDD' found. I've changed the IDE cables, checked the master/slave jumpers but no luck so far. Since this was a packed new drive i dont think it should have any issue with the drive formatting. Any suggestions will be much appreciated. Thanks. ashir

    DVR goes to sleep

Scorpion, Thank you for your tips. I am coming to the opinion that the HDD is getting overheated and needs some kind of cooling (fan etc). The reason is, when i did the hard reset, by chance i didnt put the lid (DVR cover) back on and the dvr worked fine without going to sleep. Next day, i put the cover back on and it stopped after the usual few hrs first initially and then progressively shortening the time to sleep thereafter. I've removed the cover again and will see how it goes. Once again, thank you for your inputs. ashir

    DVR goes to sleep

Thank you Scorpion. Will do the hard reset and get back with the results. Btw, about the bad hard drive comment. Could you please explain a bit? Does the hard drive goes to sleep - what could be the reason for that? the reason i ask is because i got this 260GB IDE HDD (western digital) just after i got hold of the DVR and it is pretty new. Thanks again, ashir
  5. Hello everyone once again, The DR040 that i have doesnt seem to record continuously -as i'd like it to. i would like to see it record 24-hrs a day without a break but this doesnt happen. What is happening currently is that it will record for a while and then go to sleep. If i restart it (power off/on) it will start again. At times it will record for several hours and other times it will only record for minutes. I've tried playing with the settings and have switched on the detection and the record timers (all days of the week for all the hours). On the camera detection settings i have made the LS 02 (from the default 07). All seems to have helped and it is recording more - but it still does go to sleep even when one would expect it to detect motion. One can dance right in front of the camera and it would still sit- doing nothing. The question is, is there some way to do it? some setting that i need look at? Thanks for your help.
  6. Finally! the video viewer is able to login to the dvr. Please dont ask what the problem was. There's a thing called McAfee firewall - Need one say more? Thank you all once again, without your help i'd still be going in all directions. I am pretty sure i'll be bugging you again with more questions. Cheers, ashir
  7. Hello Scorpion Dvrtiger and Mfdcaps, Thank you all for your responses. Scorpion - about the IP address, i am using a static 192.168.0.10 on the dvr. The router has 192.168.0.1 and My laptop has 192.168.0.2. I've also tried DHCP on the DVR and with the laptop also on the same IP scheme. Again, in both the cases the internet explorer option works ok. I've also checked and rechecked that the IP, the port (80) and the passwords are all the same in the vid viewer and on the dvr - and i am using the same to connect via IE. I am not sure about port forwarding on router and will check this out. But thanks for your tips because at least i know from your response this should work. Dvrtiger - i believe i do have java runtime, but can you please tell me what version do i need? in control panel i can see a java option and it shows me JNLP (JRE1.5.0. ). Mfdcaps - i am using TCP 80 port but i havent gotten around to using quicktime yet. Once again thank you all. Really appreciate it. ashir
  8. Hello Folks, i have recently bought a DR040 and trying to log into it via the video viewer application - without any success. The login via the browser (I.E.) works without a hitch. When i use the same credentials in the video viewer application, however, it doesnt work. My laptop and the dvr are connected via a netgear router, and both are on the same ip address scheme (on a LAN). Port is 80 and the password is also the default one (admin/admin). I tried the video viewer version that came with the DR040 as well as the updated versions from the net but none of them lets me get in. Will appreciate any help. thanks much, ashir
