    PC Based System

Thanks for all the input. I was looking at the NUUO CMS... I didn't know of any others. Thanks.
  2. Can anyone give me a few recommendstions for which software to buy that would handl different brands of network cameras on a PC based system.
  3. I've switched to network cameras but I have a variety of name brands; Sony Samsung, JVC. I was considering the NUUO NVR with the embedded Linux system and NUUO CMS software to manage these cameras. However, I have a Netgear NAS NV+ installed on my network for data backup, etc. I was wondering if anyone knows if I can use that NAS as an NVR instead of the NUUO NVR so I could get away from having a PC based system.

    PoE

It should be well worked if the power consumption of cameras are within supply... Thanks for the help guys. I picked up a Netgear FS726TP with 24 ports for cheap that has a 100w power budget. I'll put that behind the firewall for PoE and hope that issue is resolved. Thanks.
  5. Is there any disadvantage to having 4 different brands of IP cameras for a security system?

Is it necessary to have an external power supply for system with 8 network (IP) cameras connected with CAT-5 line to one router?

    IP PTZ Cameras

Thanks for the reply. I'm a newbie with a few questions. I was trying to ease into this so mythinking was to buy two IP cameras (thinking about panasonic WV-NW484S) and install them first and add the PTZ later. I've been playing around with some used analog cameras that I've accessed through remote desktop connection over the internet and am not satisfied. My wish list: 1. at least two cameras that I can access from a PC with a touchscreen monitor located convenient that I can touch and see at any time 2. need to have access over the web 3. would like PTZ but can add at a later date 4. need good cameras where I can identify what's being recorded 5. I'm half sure I don't want a DVR 6. would like good software 7. would like to stay in the $2000-$3000 range 8. already have a PC with Core 2 Duo A few questions: 1. should I have a dedicated in-house PC (with camera software) that I access from the web or is the camera software loaded on the PC I carry with me? 2. will there be problems later adding the PTZ and will I need separate software for the PTZ; different from the camera software? 3. I have an off-sight NAS to store to. 4. willing to listen to any solutions even if thery are contrary to above Any help will certainly be appreciated.
  8. Can IP PTZ cameras be controlled over the internet from a remote location?
  9. I'm making a PC based system with a DVR card and some used JVC analog color cameras (TK-C750U). I have an extra PC and picked up the cameras and other equipment really cheap to make this first system. My learning curve consists of: initially buying something that works but I don't like, buying something that works that I half like and lastly buying what I really want and that is useful. I'm going cheap on the first step and hope to eliminate the second. Question: Does the dvr card in the PC have an IP address like the newer IP cameras and DVR's? I know the used cameras I have do not. My intent is to view the cameras from offsite through the internet but I'm ignorant on how to port forward to the DVR card or analog computers.
