Gigabit Network Swtich in Combo with 10/100 Router, Wireless
Jasper posted a topic in Computers/Networking
I want to be able to transfer files across a small LAN which already has a wireless 10/100 wireless router. If I buy a Gigabit switch do I hook it up in combination with the router or how would I do it? I have an idea, but I am not sure. Or if there is a reasonably priced dual Ethernet card I could use that as it is only two computers communicating with each other? I like the 5 port switchesthough if it works how I think it does. I see some inexpensive ones on Newegg's site; like between $20-$80 for a five port. Anybody have a brand they like; Netgear, Dlink, Linksys, etc. ? -
LinkSys WRT54G Router Setup - Can't Access Internet - Flakey
Jasper replied to Jasper's topic in Computers/Networking
I am having problems with this router again. It was working fine for a while. At least I thought it was until I started trying to use CenterV2 on the Geo, then realized I could not make outbound connections, only inbound. CenterV2 is running on Port 80. I don’t have IIs running. I disabled Skype from running, no difference. The remote viewer works and I can VNC in, but I keep resetting the router only to find it gets messed up and again will not let outbound communications to occur. Anybody have a clue what might be going on? What I should check next? -
Gigabit Network Swtich in Combo with 10/100 Router, Wireless

Installed my new Dlink Gigbait network card and Linksys Gigabit switch and was disappointed that I am still running at 10/100. I guess you really do need Cat-5e to run Gigabit. I have 1 Cat-5e cable from the switch to the desktop, but standard CAT-5 to my Laptop.I guess that is what the problem is? I see that Cat-5 and Cat-5e are very similar, but wired slightly different. -
Far from being a kid, but I have Google: pwnd - owned pwned - made to look bad pwnt - owned pwnz - owns

Well just looking at the specs the EXtreme looks better for low light. It will stay in color longer before switching to BW.

That is why I asked you to download Rorys clip. He can focus a camera. Plus his video is from outside, which you can't compare to a dark indoor environment like a bar. The first two videos I posted of the bar were terrible. I used the worst quality settings possible. Of course there is going to be graininess. One was taken after hours when there was hardly any light so the people could steal a sign. The one with the black guy in it, if I had the amount of light that you had in that room you were in, it would have looked great. The only way you can really compare DVR's is to have the exact identical scene and cameras. I think the ICRealtime would do well because it is using a much lower bit rate and probably has some good hardware compression going on. That has to be taken into consideration also, although you said throw all that by the wayside. Well you can't do that, because you end up short changing the ICRealtime. I just don’t think from the clips I have seen so far that the ICRelatime has been presented in a way that shows off its quality. That would be a nice outdoor shot or a room with even lighting. I bet they have some nice clips that better demonstrate the ability of that DVR.

Download Rory's Video clips and check them out. I have some on there as well, but they are recorded at the lowest quality codec. I will upload one that is using a better codec and is in a much darker environment. If it was in your room it would look much better. You do have to consider the bit rate though or you are short changing the ICRealtime DVR. Would the GEO look as good at that lower bit rate like the ICRealtime? We won’t know until they come out with their version of H.264.

It is not as good as my player.

Maybe it down converts when converting to AVI or my codec utility program doesn’t report it correctly. I just wanted to make sure you were using the best quality setting. Have I seen better quality? Yes. If my Geovison was in that same room with the same camera I think it would look better. Your video has a lot of artifacts. Especially around your left cheek when the video plays back.
-
Well when are you going to show us the highest quality? That last clip was recorded at 352x240, wasn't it? How about a 720x480 or even a 640x480. And when comparing video you have to take into consideration the bit rate and the resolution. My jaw is not hitting the floor with what I have seen so far. What happend to KandCorps clips? Maybe he has some better examples. I don't think that DVR is being presented in its best light. I am sure the demo at the show will be much better.

So you are buying Skype minutes for you cell phone? You purchased a Skype number for your local area?

Remote Viewing... DSL or Cable Uploading
Jasper replied to Tom the Handyman's topic in General Digital Discussion
The 768k upload would be better for remotley viewing. The higher the upload the better. Most people are only getting the 384 upload or lucky to get the 512, so the 768 is real good if you can get it. I am assuming this connection your talking about is for the DVR? -
He edited it and messed up. I will see if I can upload them or if he has it corrected here pretty quick.
-
Looks better, the bit rate is up to 915kbps, but the resolution still is at 352x240?
-
It was probably used before PC's got so powerful. You don't really need it if you are running a modern system. It takes the load off the CPU because it is doing the compression on the card rather than utliizing the computers CPU.

Yep, what was said above. You plug in the wireless receiver into the GEO by using a RCA to BNC adapter. I have tried the wireless on the GEO, but like he said if there is a signal break for too long you will get a still image or a video lost message I believe.
-
It isn't 11kbps. Are you using windows to determine the bit rate, because it is not accurate. I am using a video utility program to identify the CODEC and the bit rate. The bit rate needs to increase along with the resolution to get an idea of how good it can look. So far the DVR and the Camera are not doing each other justice. Sorry, just being honest.
-
Hmm. I just converted the file from the .mp4 to .avi. Which converts it to an Open Source DivX4 Codec. I see that it has been recorded at a bit rate of 373 kbps. Most like the quality is suffering because of the low bit rate and the low resolution.

Yeah you need port 5066 opened for the Remote Playback Server to play video from the DVR. I have had that same problem with the Web Server not starting again after a reboot. Since I can't trust it, I don't have it reboot currently. I have had it happen on restore settings after reboot and apply startup settings on reboot. A Bug.
-
Yep. I did it full screen. Why you holding back, lets have the super. It doesn't look as good as the first sample you posted that was outside. I am looking at it on a 56" screen so I can see the differences real easy.
-
That phone looks pretty large how are you carrying it? Breifcase, belt clip? I saw a review on it and they were saying the display though rated at 320x240 actually looked like 240x240, but they weren't sure Your happy with the quality of the images? And is it easy for you to use?

It is a great little program when I had it working. I was using it to detect everytime a cash register was opened and sending a video clip of what happened a several seconds before and after that. So I could see each transaction taking place. I removed Skype off of it today to see if that might be some type of conflict. The rotuer keeps getting locked up on me.

Yep. You can really tell who has been to a 3rd world country and who hasn't by the statements made. We have everything over here (Except OIL) and most smaller countries have very little. It is like a whole different world. How would you like to have one TV channel? Ouch..
-
That wasn't a good sample demo at all. The video looked distored. What camera were you using? Was that the top settings of the unit? And got to talk to you about this over sharing.

I can FTP them off your computer if you PM the logon and password and IP of course.
