STATIC IP ADDRESS-HOW DO I GET ONE

I use No-IP and haven't had any problems with it. Why pay extra for a static IP address unless you really need it? In your case it is not an option anyway, so use No-IP or other IP tracker.

    Thumbs Up for McDonalds

OK, I guess I will try one then. I don't normally like Micky D's either, but with two thumbs up on two hands, well I guess I just willl have to try one.

help. Geo Webcam turns itself off!!

I never thought of an update conflict, but that is possible. I was just notfied by a browswer copmany regarding a Microsoft Non Critical Update that had to be removed to enable their product not to use most of CPU. Time will tell.

    Virus, Worms, and Trojan Horses

That is what I meant. Unless you want a job with a company like Symantec or the like, there is no point. Unless you want to just wreak havoc or study how to screw things up instead of how to make things better. They should create, not hack. If they really want show how smart they are create something helpfull.

    Virus, Worms, and Trojan Horses

That is why we have the Anti-Virus companys. There is no need to learn how to write worms, trojans and the like. Spend your time doing something more productive, like programming. Unless your looking for a job as a computer security specialist.

Exotic Cameras if Money Were No Object

Boy, isn't that the truth. Not only into our computers, but get a good idea about you by what is on your computer. Microsoft is in bed with the Government. Look out for the Global Unique Identifier. Mr. Gates almost had a tent collaspe on him today along with Jimmy Carter. Well almost.
  8. Done. Ordered a Linksys - EG005W - 10/100/1000Mbps Gigabit 5-Port Network Switch (L48-2226) and D-Link - DGE-530T - 10/100/1000 Mbps PCI Network Adapter (D700-2242)

Exotic Cameras if Money Were No Object

That sounds like one interesting project. See a human at 20+ miles, wow! some good examples of exotic cameras definately. I wonder what toys Bill Gates must have? I would have a hand held portable thermal camera to play with. Military grade night vision equipment and who knows what else.
  11. Thank you both for your help. I will see what I can match up. I was looking at an inexpensive Netgear, but they have a Linksys 5 port I can buy. Not to sure about the network card. I'll take a look.
  12. OK, from both of your responses it sounds like this is how I intended to hook it up. Lets see if I got it right? 1. Cable modem is plugged into router via the internet port on the back of the router. 2. Another cable connects router to switch through a port on the back of router. This will provide internet access to all computers plugged into the gigabit switch. 3. A gigabit Ethernet card will be installed in the desktop replacing the current 10/100 card, then a cable will lead from it to the gigabit switch. 4. The Laptop will then connect to the gigabit switch allowing full speed file transfers between the two computers. Current setup is as follows: 1. Cable modem plugs into regular port on router. 2. Internet port on router is connected to Ethernet card on desktop. 3. Laptop is connected to regular port on router providing 100Mbps file transfers. 4. The Laptop has a 10/100/1000 Ethernet port and a built in 802.11b & g. 5. I only activate the wireless on the router when roaming about and only for internet access. Desktop is connected to HD TV through standard VGA cable, which serves as the computer monitor. Oh, and I will be able to use the gigabit ethernet card on the desktop to access the interent through the switch and do high speed files transfers between the two computers, correct?
  13. I have a computer that is dedicated as a DVR for Television programs, so the files are between 2-6GB per file recorded in MPEG-2 format. But I will probably connect my security DVR to it as well so I can move files from that computer to another room for better viewing on a big screen TV that has a VGA input and computer attached to it. So let me see if I understand this correctly. So my wireless router will have the Cable Modem plugged into the Internet jack on the router, than a Cat5e cable with lead from the back of one of the ports (100) to the switch which will provide internet access to all computers on the switch. It sounds like what your saying is that I won’t be able to use my router to steer traffic or use other features of the router in combination with a simple switch, is that right? As far as the cabling I have terminated Cat5e cables already, so that shouldn’t be a problem. Am I going to have to buy a gigabit wireless router? Also the DVR has gigabit ethernet already whereas the other system doesn't. Could I replace the 10/100 for a gigabit card and share the connection for the internet and LAN access?

My GeoVision 1240 actually catches a thief!

You got some bright motion lights up there now. Anybody tries that again they will be in living color. After the publicity I don't think you will have any more problems.

    IE's Trusted Site registry location

This might be a helpful link. I am searching Google though as I don't know of a program off hand that is simple to use. See if this helps point you in the right direction. http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2004/10/26/247917.aspx

    ideal pc based system

Agreed. For stability reasons overclocking would not be recommended for a mission critical application, which is a security system.

    IE's Trusted Site registry location

You mean something that would automate the process like batch processing trusted sites, instead of adding manually one at a time?

Exotic Cameras if Money Were No Object

It will read license plates at 1.25 miles, which isn't quite as good as what the other camera will do, but then again I don't know how much Extreme is asking for this one. I would imagine, it is a lot less. I thought I saw some type of camera that could see through pretty thick concrete, but I can't remember what technology it used?

Not really, not for four computers. 2 high end laptops will set you back quite a bit by themselves. What did you get for your money?

OK, Here is a 1 Gigapixel camera. She be ready for the consumer in about 20 years. http://www.gigapxl.org/ They are working on a 4 Gigapixel camera now.
  23. sf1964, Thought I would check in and see how you were doing with your setup. If you have any new video footage from the new cameras and your new system I would be happy to host it for you.

i always thought Movie Maker wasn't that great, but I will have to give it a try again for such a project. You have a great sense of humor, which is evident in your video.

    Shootout

Yep he does. He has bars on his windows. Carries a knife bigger then Rambo and wears a shirt that say BadAss on it. And he is just waiting as he can see what is going on with his security system. Warning: To all potential home invaders, this is not an invitation. PS. T-shirts are available, but you run the risk of getting butt kicked if you go outside with it on.
