I think the BW would be a better choice for two reaons. 1) It has a higher resolution 420 compared to the colors 350, which is considered really low end. 2) The .02 lux rating will give you much better picture quality in lower lighting conditions. If it is a true rating you should be able to see in the dark with very minimal lighting. A street light for example would provide enough light for monitoring purposes. Will the camera be subjected to direct sunlight hitting the lens during the day? If that is the case neither one will work out for you. Try to direct the lens camera away from a direct view away from the sun. That might be why that last camera went bad.

That's funny I thought you were reffering to the Concealed Weapon G22 talked about above, which I thought Duh!, bullets usually do leave marks. Then I realized you probably meant you got bit in the azz. Its funny, but then again not until some time has passed. I have had a similar experience as well. Except with a tiny dog that looked so cute and I couldn't figure out for the life of me why the cruel owners had it chained up. I found out. I don't pet dogs that look friendly anymore.

Yep. It takes awhile, but you get used too most climates. It took me a couple of years to get used to the 105+ degree days during the summertime here compared to mostly mid 90's where I lived before. It is a La Nina year. La Niña, the flip side of El Niño. Its calling card is the gathering of unusually cool surface waters in the equatorial Pacific, which shifts weather patterns worldwide.

Yeah if I was where you are I would only come out enough to work to make enough money to pay my AC bill.

The older storage units could have some wood in them, but I haven't see one here in California in I don't know how long. The real nice units maybe. They are just thin Galvanized steel units with some insulation usually between two panels that make up the walls and ceiling. Many don’t have much support in them at all. Some have electrical, many do not. Depends on how cheap they went with their building supplier. Most of those cheap type are pretty flimsy. Inside and out. I can’t tell from that picture though. Tops usually are not solid either. Most people building those things today are maximizing their profits by putting them up cheap as possible.

70 degress I would be walking around with a Tank Top or no shirt at all. That is funny. 65 feels alright inside the house. 60 degrees outside or cooler is great for working outdoors. You gotta be kidding about all those clothes. I can't handle the heat. If you came where I live during the summer you would be right at home. I will be inside with the Air Conditioner. 105 is a little to hot for me. Anything above 70 and I am getting uncomfortable. It is 66 in the room right now and I feel too warm and I am only wearing a T-shirt and thin pajama bottoms.

Wood on the inside, thats a good one. They are big aluminum can type units.

Geez I thought Californians were spoiled by great warm weather. They think it is cold at 48 degrees. Overall reading that article was interesting to hear the perspectives of the different people. That's T-shirt weather for a guy working outside. All depends on what your used too.

Record snow fall in New York 22+ inches of snow. Other parts of the country as well. As many of you know.

Just imagine the many people who are doing the same thing and are in even higher positions of responsibility and power. It is all corruption from the lowest to the highest levels.

Looks good. I looked at it on an HD monitor and I could see the detail so well that I know they need to wash their windows.

Well you got to get out of the house sometimes to give your eyes a rest from staring at the computer screen all day. Plus the muggers feel like you are not giving them an equal opportunity to rob you. Just kidding, don't want anything to happen to you.

Lets face it the majority of people don't have a clue how much this stuff costs. Unless of course they are like the many people who want everything at your cost and you to install everything for free. There is always going to be the "Something for Nothing" crowd. It's just the way it is. We are so off topic I think we are going to get a ticket.
-
I hope that is your cost and not retail.
-
I agree. 99 out of 100 people probably don't care about the highest quality because very few are willing to pay for it. Most people want something that produces a clear image and doesn't cost them what they call an "Arm and a Leg", which translates to anything above $100. or less with the really cheap people.

The L-side shot does look real good compared to the others. The one in the dark isn't bad. What camera is that one? What are the low light spec on it? I wouldn't name drop the Homeland Security. We all know how good a job they are doing. Just messin with you.

The results look OK. Nothing spectacular. But for selling them for a living I think they will satisfy most people. If they are inexpensive for you to buy, people are satisfied and you can make enough profit to make it worthwhile than that is all that really counts.
-
Well coming from you Rory that isn't saying much. Considering you equate COP cameras to X10 or Radio Shack cameras. Really the Cam53CIR is the one that looks cheap. Not all of them. I don't know I think a comparison between similar priced cameras would have to be done for a fair comparison.

Okay. I will try to help you in general because without seeing the environment that you’re going to be installing the system in, it is real hard to make specific recommendations. Lighting is a real important issue especially if you would like to be able to see in a really low light. If this is not an issue than the price of your cameras will be substantially lower. Camera quality and price is very considerably. I would recommend getting some RG 59 95% copper braided shielded cable to connect your cameras to the DVR. Siamese cable which provides the coxial for the video signal and two additional wires to power your cameras is very popular. You also need an expensive cable stripper in order to prepare your cable for attaching your BNC connectors. I would suggest simple twist on connectors to avoid having to buy tools that you’ll never use again and also because the twist on are extremely easy-to-use. I also recommend a power box to power all your cameras instead of one transformer for each camera. The computer system or DVR should be located in a room that is fairly secure. If you’re technically inclined and familiar with computers I would suggest a DVR card inside of a computer. They have more features and are much more flexible as far as upgrading is concerned. Depending on the resolution that your record at and what frame rate you use will determine how large of a hard drive you will need in order to be able to accommodate one weeks worth of storage. I would think 250 GB at a minimum probably much more if you record at a higher frame rate and higher resolution. In regards to your cable connection is not how fast it is able to download what matters is how fast it is able to upload. For example my cable connection at my home is 6 Mb downstream and only 384 kb upstream. If you were streaming six cameras all at the same time you’re lucky if you’ll get one frame per second at that upload speed. Of course compression of video images factors in heavily in regards to your frame rate you can get over the Internet. This is just some additional information for food for thought. People on the forum that sell this stuff for a living will probably chime in and try to offer you an exact solution for your particular needs. I hope this helps.

Is there a consensus that the Panosonic 484 is the best wide dynamic camera availble for the money? What other models should one consider that are comprable? Are Wide Dynamics just not being used that much due to price and their features, which are really not needed in most cases? They seem to handle back light real well and offer a better quality picture, but that part I guess would mainly pertain to outdoors?
-
Well that is a fairly descent budget. Better than some who ask for all that stuff for $300. Some of the other questions that would help would be: 1) Will you have good lighting for every camera? 2) If you want to view of the internet. Do you have a fast upload speed on your connection, which is required for smooth viewing? 3) Do you wish to record the video? 4) Are you doing this your self? 5) Is it ok for the camera's to be seen? These are just some of the questions to be answered. There are more.

Mace cameras look cheap, but they seem to produce a pretty good picture. Everything is going to look bad compared to EXTREME products.
-
Yep. It is working just like it is supposed too. They don't have intelligent moteion detection yet. Not at the consumer level anyway. Who knows what the military has? Big windshield wipers

What kind of budget are we talking about?
