Keep dreaming. Sounds good though. I hope you got those domes at a good price to offset the price of new clear covers and tools to open the things up? Sounds like your earning your discount.

What? Meth labs in arkansas? Never! And they have cameras?

Your bad. Did you tell him you were a security specialist and he continued to act like he knew more than you did? Oh well. -
Yeah those look like they may cost a few dollars.

Hmmm. Kind of like a repeater of some sort? Did you find out what the problem was?

The offsite storage idea is nothing new, but how are they getting the customers data? That is alot of bandwidth across the internet. Or are they having the customer ship a drive to them when it fill up and they provide another empty one? 2 years worth. That is a lot of hard drive space with even a low frame rate, low resolution and high compression.

Oh. I was assuming that with a megapixel camera you would be recording at a much higher resolution than 720x480, which is 345K pixels roughly. I was thinking it would be more like a digital camera where the higher the megapixels the better. I know HD video for example uses up tremendous amounts of storage.

New guy asks a few questions from the pros...

Version 7.1 isn't out yet. It has been renamed version 8 and Geo said it will be availble this month. They could release it around the same time of the upcoming security show. Good Luck with the new card. I think you will like it. Even without the newest software. -
I wonder what type of storage requirements would be necessary for these types of cameras. It must be considerable.

If you need to buy replacement dome covers or want to buy some clear ones in his case, where do you get them from?
-
You mean the tech that came out from SBC lied too me? Fancy testing equipment he had. Maybe they can just detect shorts in the cable. Anway anytime I can get some phone cable replaced where it is old an most likely worn I take them up on it. What is an RT? Receive/Transmit?

need tamperproof screw bit for panasonic 474 dome
Jasper replied to sf1964's topic in Security Cameras
Check your local hardware store for the bits. They should have them. Bring one of the cameras with you to match up to the bit you need or buy a small set. -

You need a Hollow Star Bit. I don't know the size off hand, but that is the correct bit you need. Hollow Star Bits: T-8H, T-10H, T-15H, T-20H, T-25H, T-27H, T-30H, T-35H, T-40H -
I would like to see that clip. That sounds better than the one I believe me and Mcgee saw. This guys friends recorded a previous lottery winning and went out and bought the winning numbers and played the tape back as if it was that nights numbers and this guy went crazy. He was jumping off the floor, hugging his friends and generally happier than you have ever seen anybody. Then they told him the truth. He looked like he fell into an instant depression. That is cruel, cruel, cruel.

I would just like to see some video clips of these idiots making some stupid mistakes like I have seen on cops. Like being pulled over on the freeway with their car being a portable meth lab and them trying to explain to the police that they are using these chemicals and equipment for other purposes. -
Windows Media Player will play avi files unless you don't have the codec needed installed. I play files created by GEO all the time with it. It plays them back to fast, but it plays them. (their recorded at a low fps) Which codec is being used? You can find this out by downloading the free codec check utility called: "GSpot". As long as your not using a proprietary codec they are many programs that will convert the file for you. Nero can convert it so it will play on a stand alone DVD player if you would like. Do a search on Google - wmv to avi and you will find a much of programs that will do this for you.

While staying at a Motel 6 I peeked out the window when I heard the police yelling for some people to come out of the room. I saw like five doors open. I was surrounded by druggies. It was funny as hell. Some went back in their room, others kept watching what was going on now that they were already outside and were not the target. -
I just elminated this same problem with DSL connection. It turned out an old MTU chip was connected to line, which DSL didn't like. It quit dropping the line once this was removed. Same router and modem by the way. You can also have the ISP test the line and they can tell you if there is a bad spot. Just had a section of phone line replaced as well. Had that done just because they said there was a bad spot 113 feet away.

Good lighting always helps. Looks good.

"Sheriff Mask says he'd love to see laws restricting the sale of the equipment, but knows it also does too much good for that to happen. " What a stupid statement. He wants to limit sales of security equipment, what a joke. What is he going to do? Have people fill out a piece of paper asking them if they make drugs for a living? -
Exactly, it will pick up extra pixels. Which if the camera is already pixelating it will make the situation worse. Causing false triggering of the motion detection and causing continious recording to take place. Everything thing is fine when you have enough light. The camera that is pixelating bad is the one that has a little bit of light entering from an exterior light. Which is enough to cause the camera to pixelate bad where it didn't do so at 640x480. You can really see a difference in the pixelation between 720x480 and 640x480. I can let you log on right now and switch the resolutions and you will see a big difference.
-
Just tested it again in another place and at 720x480 or the higher settting in your case. The camera's started introducing a lot of noise into the video. Normally when it is pitch dark at 640x480 I don't have this problem. I have tested this in the past as well and even if you adjust the motion sensitivity to its lowest level you will still get motion detect false alarms due to the cameras pixelating. This in turn triggers the motion detection which then creates continious recording to take place. A tiny bit of light in the area will cause this to happen also at the higher resolution. Whereas at a lower resolution this doesn't occur. Sounds weird, but I have tested it several times and I get the same result. Try lowering your resolution to see if this applies to your situation. If not, then you have elminated one factor and it is something that is real easy to check. First check all your settings as suggested above.
-
Now they need a new room because that stuff is the nicest looking stuff in that room.
-
Are you running your resolution above 640x480? Because when it gets dark enough at 720x480 it starts pixelating so bad it can cause that to happen. It is a bug that Geo is aware of. 3MB to 130MB, something very wrong somewhere.

What is Interlaced and de-interlaced video? To get a picture on any screen, one picture (frame) is made up of two identical pictures merged together. Whether it is interlaced or not, depends how the signal is sent out from the playing device and how it is decoded by the monitoring screen (i.e. TV or Plasma etc.,). Interlaced Video scans from top to bottom twice to produce one picture (frame) but uses only half of its resolution per scan. De-Interlaced uses the full resolutions of each scan, therefore improving the picture quality.

Interlaced is less quality than de-interlaced.
