Yeah I have seen the map. Still better than being out in the country. I'm jealous of those fast connections also, but location, location, location. Or maybe I am missing the point of other services avaible in that area that are quicker but probably more costly.

Oh. That's AOL's Transit Data Network. Well I guess your lucky to have access if your in Houston or Dallas. Hopefully you aren't paying too much. The newer services rolling out by SBC (AT&T again), Verizon and others can't some soon enough. Speeds seem to be finally increasing though for the same price and in some cases lower pricing. I know SBC is offering a 14.99 DSL account for new customers. Those high upload speeds look attractive for DVR's.

Speakeasy is the one I use. That is some great speed if that is a consumer account? Who is your ISP?

While we are on the subject of covert cameras how about some recommendations on some wired type? I guess what would be interesting is for people to post about which cameras they have used in different situations. And it is a covert camera just a camera in disguise? And a hidden camera is something that is introduced into the environment that is not easily noticed whereas a covert camera can be?

Nah. Retarded is like what I did the other day when I jumped on the bandwagon answering a post Rory made I don't know how far back that had long been resolved.

Deleting Videos from Geovision Audio/Video Log
Jasper replied to cctv_survivor's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
You can navigate through the windows directories and delete the files manually but is not really set up that way. The DMD backup program that you used to create extracted video for review by date and time is also used to delete video files. You click on that picture of that little shredder looking graphic. Then you enter the range by date and time of video files that you wish to delete. One thing to watch out for is if you specify some video that doesn't fall within a range you'll get an erroneous message telling your there's no video in that range. When in fact there is. -
which computer of mine would u use to setup a standalone dvr

The new combo cards I listed have frame rates as follows 120, 240 and 480 frames per second. As far as the performance of the new combo cards they don't have hardware compression if that's what you're alluding to. They have a DSP output jack for connecting a CCTV monitor or television. Which may be no big deal to a lot of people. But then again someone at home might like it to hook up to their television set to allow them to monitor their security system on RCA video input on the television. Currently the combo cards have a problem with recording of the 720 x 480 mode as they pixelate more at this resolution triggering false motion detection video to be recorded. Most people that know this are recording at 640x480 currently. I know I am. The combo cards also have real-time display output to your monitoring device. So essentially a combo card offers you DSP, an audio card, real-time video display and it as you mentioned the 720 x 480 recording mode. If you're only going to use a maximum of four cameras and I think the GV-800 would be a better choice than the new combo cards. -
Hey rabbit! You did notice the $950 he posted above? I know it's late.

I have to disagree. The security updates will only make your system more secure, not less. If there is a way for some nitwit to able to access the system and do what they want they will find away. That is the reason for the security updates in the first place. You might as well make it harder for them. They'll move on to a less secure system and try and exploit it. And a lot of people don't know how or even want to know what Rory knows in order to secure a system. He works on maintaing government level security without the updates.

That worked out well. How come you decided on the GV800 and not one of the newer combo cards? GV1120, 1240 or 1480? Just curious. -
Your not a slacker. If you were you wouldn't be here. And I am sure a lot of information you pick up is from feedback customers relay back, which you hear about. Mgee - It sounds like your brother is just going to frustrate you more. It's not his business for one. He may never pick it up to the degree you want because it may not really interest him past a job. JMHO.

Good debate guys. Both funny in addition to being informed. Rory, Would I hire a plumber to do my cabinets, maybe if I though he could do it and he was less expensive. Geekz - I will never use another camera? Yep that's taking a strong position.

One thing I don't like about how they have been updating is when they download automatically and force a reboot if your not there to prevent it. I had to change the setting to prevent it from doing that. So maybe set up as manual so you can control when they update. Maybe do them remotely at a good time. It could reboot at a bad time otherwise.

You can do that with partition Magic. It has scripting abilities as well. You can even hide a partition that has your backup on it. It's a great program.
