How To Save an Hour (Or More) On XP Installs
Jasper replied to DataAve's topic in Computers/Networking
Didn't that link Thomas posted a ways back cover how to do that? I thought it did, but I didn't read the whole thing. -
Thats a nice motherboard. I wish I would have seen that before I boutght a PCI card for SATA support. I couldn't find your CPU on their site, but I can see that is probably is still worth some money compared to my CPU. Thanks for the links.

How to setup GeoVision for Remote View using Dynamic IP
Jasper replied to radigital's topic in Geovision
I had to look that RTFM up as I didn't know what it meant. I find I am having to do that a lot these days as people are talking in code now. Radigital, sorry you took that personally. I guess I should have kept that to myself. I did try to help you though, just not with the PDA aspect as I have not used that feature. -
Yeah you can do that. Just put it on Day/Night recording like you said. The there is a little green arrow pointing to the right that you click on that brings up the schedule. From there you can do a combination of around the clock and motion detection schedules.

I hope it works out for you and you can sue them for attorney fees.

How To Save an Hour (Or More) On XP Installs
Jasper replied to DataAve's topic in Computers/Networking
Yeah, but your were trying to save their data right? Otherwise you will do it that way next time. Nothing like a clean install to get the gunk out of your system. Mine is way overdo. I just hate all the time it takes to reinstall all my apps and get everything all tweaked to the way I like it. Especially with all the software I have on my system. Problem is that all the other crap I ever installed and there has been plenty still has traces of itself all over my system. My registry is a 135MB. -
My current chip is a socket 478 and so is the 3.06 CPU with the hyper threading. Should work unless my BIOS won’t support it or any other reason I haven’t thought of. Like chipset support? It is not worth upgrading the motherboard and memory. And definitely would not want to buy another CPU to put on it as I could put that money towards a new system. If I could get the 3.06 CPU to work for the $50 it is on sale for that might hold me over a little while longer. Your 3.4Ghz system is a lot more powerful then mine. Faster front side bus, memory, etc. My next system is going to be an AMD. AMD is kicking the crap out of Intel with more powerful chips that run cooler and use less power.

Yes. Rambus made RDRAM. It just happened to be that time when I bought it. I knew Rambus memory wouldn't stay popular for very long. Too expensive and from your comment I gather not very good either. I think I just need more power to be able to Watch TV, Use Dragon Naturally Speaking. encode video and anyting else I might want to do.
-
I think your trying to get things a little too cheap. You can't get it for less than what the seller pays for it. Can't stay in business doing that. Plus at that price they are barely making any money. That link to DigitalWatchGuard was a good price I thought.

How To Save an Hour (Or More) On XP Installs

If I had a fast connection I would zip up a copy off my hard disk and send it. But my upload speed is terrible. And unzipped it is taking up 1GB of space on my hard disk. Do you have a copy of SP2? I used a copy of Windows XP without any service packs when I did my slipstream when SP2 first came out. SP2 must be cummulative because I don't think there was a SP1 on my discs, but I could be wrong. That was a long time ago. -
Dell 8200 Dimension 2.53Ghz (Socket 478), 1GB PC800 Rambus RAM Don’t know which motherboard Vendor they used. AGP ATI All In Wonder 9800 PRO 128MB Sound Card: Santa Cruz Turtle Beach George Lucas Certified THX sound system. Combo Cards: Firewire 1394A & B, USB 2.0 Hard Drives: 2 ATA & 1 SATA inside. All drives are 7200RPM. WD120GB x 3 WD250GB Lacie 500GB 1394b connection (800mbps) Seagate 7200.8 400GB Maxtor external 160GB Hitachi 7500K 500GB SATA Maxtor 300GB x 2 The thing that drives me nuts is when the system hangs when trying to do many things at once. I think this problem would greatly be helped from a dual core processor. A nice 10K Raptor as my boot drive would help responsiveness. But for compressing and encoding video the more power the better. I have a lot of home made movies. I don’t know if buying a 3.06Ghz CPU that is on sale for $50 would be noticeable. When I went from 1.2Ghz to 2.53Ghz that was a big difference. Plus the new larger hard drives and increased performance has contributed greatly to the responsiveness of my system as I keep buying the latest and greatest hard drives.

1st video: Bus CCTV cost them money. Driver trys to run bike off road. 2nd video: Now that is a great example of a poor CCTV system. 3rd video: Peeping Toms won't stop for nothing.

You improved an existing product and now you are in court or the other way around? Bad either way. The attorneys always win.

Hey I thought we were friends. I wouldn't wish Windows ME on my worst enemy. They shouldn't have even bothered with that version. XP has been the best yet. I saw a lot of Blue Screens of Death under Windows 95. I have an old version of DOS if you want ultimate speed. No Mouse, but you can type fast anyway. I think a Dual Proc is in my near future.

Not voice recognition. This computer can barely keep up with me when dictating. And video editing and encoding on those machines were an all night thing. Not anymore. Maybe I should try the $50 upgrade to the 3.06 chip and try and wait for the new M2 socket CPU' AMD will be coming out with. Don't think I am going to make it though. I have had this system since May 2002. That is the longest I have ever had a computer without upgrading. I'm getting CPU power withdrawl symptoms.
-
And any other type of activity that takes that extra CPU power.
-
I wish that was the case for me, but I have 1GB memory already. That RAMBUS type that didn't stay popular very long. I can get a 3.06Ghz CPU for $50. You think it is work the extra power? If it will work with my BIOS? Socket 478 Chip. Rory, try running a TV tuner card, watch tv, encode video and use speech recognition software and your system will crawl. And that doesn't event count the Word Processing document I have open, my email, my downloading and a whole bunch of different stuff I do during the course of a day.

That is for probably for 500ft. Here is a link for you that belongs to one of our members who help people on the forum. This is a good price also. http://www.digitalwatchguard.com/securitycameras/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=246&idproduct=164

I have a whole .53Ghz more than you do. Yours is AMD though so don't know how that really compares to my P4? I want more power so I don't have to wait so long for encodes and speech recognition software to keep up with me. In addition to so many other things I do on my computer. I should probably do a clean install at this point.

I admire any person who can follow through with patenting their idea. As the majority of people just talk about it and never do anything about it. It is not a simple process as some television commercials may have led you to believe.
-
Tweaking the software too you mean removing it. I want to keep my software. I just want enough power to do several demanding tasks at once. Watch TV, Encode video, software firewall, Anti Virus and Speech Recognition to name a few. I don't think tweaking is going to be enough. But I might be able to free up some CPU cycles which can help.

I would rather have them keep the 2 19" monitors and lower the price. That's the same thing Dell does. I have too many monitors as it is.

Couple of Questions
Jasper replied to infringer's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
You can change settings across the internet using VNC which is free. Install it on the DVR and the remote computer. There is a nice thread about video cards. I can't find it at the moment, but you can do a search. The video card you mentioned is an accurate example of the type of performance you need from a video card. -
Me too. I have to learn how to do this over clocking without burning anything up. A lot of people are able to significantly get performance gains by doing so. No new news here, just have been reading about the number of people doing it and the terrific results they are getting. I can bump up my 2.53 P4 to 3.02Ghz for $50 due to a sale, but it’s probably not worth cracking open the case for that much of a boost.
