    Static IP necessary?

I am using no-IP service. I have the DDNS disabled in my router. Is there any advantage to using the router? With these free services why would anybody pay for a static IP? I'm sure there's a reason I just can't think of it right at the moment. I can understand Scott's point though. It puts another link in the chain that can break.
  2. A transmitter and receiver for each camera? Yes basically they just want to watch what's going on using the WebCam software. Might be a will to put something up high up on some poles. What type of equipment would be needed and a ballpark figure for costs? And what kind of transmission speed could be achieved?
  3. Yeah there is definitely some real losers in that bunch. Here is a link to a very popular web site. This particular link has mug shots of the many celebrities in Hollywood that have been arrested over the years. http://www.thesmokinggun.com/mugshots/

    Photo Radar

When I made a trip to Costa Rica they control the stop sign situation by having lots of accidents. The cars are darting all over the place. Some are really good at it and as you can imagine many are not.

    Photo Radar

I hate those stoplights that have cameras that take a picture of your license plate if you cross over the crosswalk line leading into an intersection when the light is red. Those things are popping up all over the place. One of those things malfunctioned and I was in a driving class with a whole bunch of people that were all victims of that malfunctioning camera system.

    Photo Radar

You're right. When laser has been used on me they are right up on me. X-band and k-band are easy to pick up at a good distance.

If you're going to do that you might as well buy a MIRT devices well so you don't have to stop at red lights. If that is applicable in your area. It has been outlawed here in California. It was nice while it lasted for the people who use them.

I'm not sure that spray on the license plate will work with laser radar. I have a top-of-the-line radar detector that lets me know if radar is nearby. Has saved me a lot of money.
  11. And crappy colored images will even take up more space due to the excess noise in the video.
  12. Your storage requirements will also be greatly affected by the type of camera you use. The complexity of the scene. And the amount of light.

    Cold!

How cold is cold? It really depends on the construction of the system. I have seen a PC motherboard where the CPU was cooled with liquid nitrogen and it ran fine. Of course this was just on top of the CPU. It would be good if various people would chime in and let us know what their experience has been in very cold situations.

    Geo web problem

Those Turkeys. That's probably how I got it to work than was to bypass the certification check. I don't even remember to tell the truth. I just know I got it working with persistence. Glad to know that is what causes the problem.
  16. Yes it is structural. I ended up coming down from the ceiling on the other side of the beam, just to the side of it. He didn't want me to go through the beam. I put them in after closing last night. He didn't mind the cable showing. The draft beer sign was put on the other side of the beam to cover up the cables. I mounted 2 domes up there. One of them keeps changing from Color to BW every 30 seconds or so. I didn't get a chance to see what was causing the problem as he wanted to lock up and go home before I could check it out.
  17. I want to mount two domes on the underside of this beam. I will be dropping cable down from the ceiling outside of the beam to the cameras. I want to hide the wires and possibly provide some protection against cutting. I have seen those adhesive strips that cover electrical wires, but I was wondering if there was something else that might offer more protection and still be aesthetically pleasing to the eye. The cable will be coming down vertically across the beam which is 12 inches deep. It will then curve around the underside of the beam and go behind the camera or through the little hole on the side of the dome. I would need to shim the camera out if I run the cable underneath it. Or provide some stress relief for the cable if I come in the side hole. Any recommendations?
  18. Yep. My next one will be an Altronix. I didn't see very much info on the P3 boxes on the internet. Had many more hits on the Altronix.
  19. That is a great list and has gotten better since I last saw it. I am going to go through my personal computer and get rid of a lot of unnecessary stuff that has built up over the past few years. Before you do all the stuff on that list note how much CPU usage you are currently using and then check it again afterward and let us know. I think you will be happy. I know I was when he first did it to my system.
  20. Seven day return policy. I'm always a little leery when something comes from eBay and as I have heard so many stories about people being burned there. If you decide to buy one from there make sure that is outputting the correct power before you look anything up to it. I just bought a cheap power box which outputs too much power and could have caused me problems have I not had cameras that could handle a higher voltage. I personally wouldn't buy it from eBay. Too many hassles.
  21. If you actually see the DVR program using 90% of CPU in under the Task Bar it very unlikely that ridding yourself of unnecessary services and programs is going to help much. It will definitely free up whatever CPU usage is using though. We will have to see if it makes a difference or not in regards to your problem. Rory did this to one of my computers and it did reduce the CPU usage. Plus there'll be fewer tasks listed under the taskbar which will make it much easier to troubleshoot. It would be nice if you have a service or a task that is messed up causing this problem. Than when you get rid of the service or task may be your problem will go away

    windows Vista

A lot of the new stuff in Vista is already available as add on software to Windows XP. I like performance so I don't care about all of the visual changes they made to make it look better. First thing I would do is disable all the crap.

    windows Vista

It is free to partners and developers, but not to the general public. It is for testing and to allow developers to write drivers that will work with it. I'm sure you would be eligble to receive a copy if you wanted to try it, but it might not support all your devices. You can tryi it if it is not a hassle to put your system back to the way it was.

Now you know better than that. Obtain it the legal way and don't talk about it
