    camera suggestion for this picture

That picture looks great. Is that a digital camera with the flash on? Can't judge by that. Need to take pictures without the flash.

Here is a color picture in a BAR with a lot of light compared to your place and still the image is not as crisp as what you would get with a good BW dome like the WizKid.

BW cameras for sure. To dim to do color. You won't like the pixelized look of what a color camera would do in that situation. Even if it is a Day/Night camera. A Day/Night would be a waste of money.

Just use the That is how you have it now, but you also have some which then shows up on the post.
  5. Power Box is easier and more proffesional in my opinion. You can run the raw wire ends of the siamese cable right to the box.
  6. You must have some strong teeth. You could probably pull a car if you had a cable in your mouth. You can do that kind of stuff when you have as much experience as you do. I might use clippers, but I am not going to use my teeth. Nope, not gonna do it.
  7. He could still do that if he wants. I just was pointing out another option. But your right. I bought those cables your talking about and they can work. And if your willing to loan tools, you can't beat that.

What is that supposed to mean? MS stole the ideas from them. They have been doing that since the beginning. I haven't used an Apple since the IIe, but that was because the IBM clones came out and Apple was propritery at the time. I wouldn't mind using one, but I am wrapped up in the IBM clones now. I loved that Apple though. It was capable of a lot of things the systems at the time couldn't do.

Yeah. I have a Beta of it. Haven't used it yet though.
  10. Here is the cable type you can get from here. Good place you can trust because it is a forum member. http://www.digitalwatchguard.com/securitycameras/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=246&idproduct=164 These are the Twist On connectors to use with that cable. http://www.digitalwatchguard.com/securitycameras/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=166&idproduct=168 Here are the power boxes you can choose from: http://www.digitalwatchguard.com/securitycameras/pc/viewCat_h.asp?idCategory=549 Here is the cable stripper you would use: http://www.digitalwatchguard.com/securitycameras/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=169&idproduct=1453 I don't know where you live, but these are the items that will work for you.
  11. I agree. They don't need to invest in any special tools doing it the way I explained it. Just a wire stripper that costs 10-15 dollars. Your hand for the twist ons, wire nuts or black tape for the power wires and a phillips screwdriver to connect the power leads to a power box. Its easy once you do your first one. But until then it is that fear of the unknown and wanting to get every ones opinion because your just not quite sure. If he wants I can give him a link to a place I just bought a 500ft roll of wire from, the BNC connectors and the power box. Don't know if they have the strippers, but they probably do.
  12. Yep, sure do. I know it is hard when your first starting out. Those premade thin cables are harder to work with then just some standard siamese cable though. Just trying to get that point accross to him so he can avoid more frustration. But your right, you have ten people talking to you and you don't know who to listen too or even understand everything that has even been said.
  13. Now that wasn't very nice. He is in the learning process. I asked those same questions when I was first learning also. It is just that fear of not knowing whether you are doing something right. That's why the questions get asked. Most people are thankful for the help they receive here. I tried those thin cables and the cable I am talking about is easier to work with and you will get better results. Have you check out any of the sites in the banner ads for cables and connectors. Then a wire stripper which is real easy to use. It is like a clothes pin you put on the cable and use your finger to spin it around several times and your cable is read for the twist on BNC connectors. You don't need any of those leads if you cut the power wires leading from a plug in transformer and connect is to the cable. But I would recommend a power box you mount to the wall with a few screws and connect the raw power wires to the power box. Then do what Rory said above as far as connecting the wires.

If you do this make sure you verify your environment variables by lauchning a DOS window and typing in SET to see what your path is set at and the value of other variables the system uses.
  15. If I could get my hands on it I could probably figure it out. But this way of communicating makes it tough to provide the full picture.

If they are all .INI files that reference the C drive he just needs a Drive Mapper program, which is included with Partition Magic, which also allows total manipulation of partitions.

I like you. Not enough to break your balls though. A game of pool sure. And I expect more pictures.
  18. A lot of them have a website you can checkout to see what they sell. Or ask about a specfic product and people will contact you.

Is drive D: removable media, because that is what an EWF write filter is for. Do you want the GEO software to reside on a removable Flash Device or what? http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;814257&spid=3220&sid=global

What is so hard about taking notes on your configuration to easily reconfigure upon a new install to the other drive? There is information in a *.MDB file you don't want lost?

Thomas's point about the Swap File is a good one though. Although it sounds like he won't be using a swap file. This whole business of not writing to drive C: is just; I don't know? This has become a mountain out of a mole hill. There just seems to be some ill conceived notions here regarding writes to drive C: The Master Boot records are there. the Registry, the files sysem is indexing files for faster retrieval and much more. So I just don't get it. Maybe just no writes from GEO, I don't know?
  22. The budget should probably be getting higher not lower. A DVR and 4 cameras for a grand. It would be a very crappy system. And a CCTV monitor, power supply and cabling. Whew. JMHO.

Hey I heard your using up most the storage at ImageShack.
  24. That could work. I need to think about the angle, the thickness of the header board and where I would come out at. I really don't want to have the wires exposed although he doesn't care, but I do. It would look like crap, not to mention losing the very protection that the dome offers. I just need to order a big drill bit over the internet then as the longest I have is two feet at the moment. My local hardware store doesn't carry anything that long. And if they do it will be 2-3 times what I can probably buy it for the internet. Thanks for the idea Rory.
