  1. Thats the optimal placement due to the beam being a good distance below the lights. And there is a dome at the other end of the bar which looks towards that area. Two cameras will be placed on the beam. One to look back towards the other camera allowing the viewing of the front of the bar which the first camera doesn't pick up. The second camera will point to the end of the bar for a good view there. He wants to use the full wide angle view for maximum perphrial views. The cameras have 2.8-5.8mm lenses but he wants the widest view. The CCD is 1/4 inch. This way he will have full coverage of the bartenders and the be able to see a little outside the bar area as well.
  2. This is what I will have to drill through and avoide electrical conduit and Duct work. No fun. Especially for so little pay. like nothing. It would look much more professional though and would allow optimal placement of the cameras. This place has been remodeled three times. So there is roof over roof. Makes for an interesting install
  3. Yeah I wish I could do the molding thing, but not enough room for the cable, plus some of it would still be exposed. I guess a 4 foot drill bit is in my future. My Dewalt cordless drill has the hammer setting. Rory, that one bartender I was telling you about quit already after I installed the first camera. I guess it was going to interfer with her activities. By the time I have them all installed the place should be closed due to bartenders quitting.

OK. If I was determined as you are I would manually edit whatever was necessary. And I would use a Global Search and Replace tool to do it quickly or the Drive Mapper program. I guess your looking for the big "EASY BUTTON" like the commercial. Just kidding with you. Well good luck, I tried.

My very first post in response to your question had the answer for you I believe. Maybe. Partition Magic has a utility program called Drive Mapper which does exactly what you are trying to accomplish. If the references are in a simple file structure that it can read you will accomplish your goal. If the path is stored in a binary file that might be another story. But I think you need to search google for a Drive Mapper program if you don't want to purchase Partition Magic which is a great program by the way and well worth the money.

So are you saying that your drive C is actually Flash Memory, like a USB key or something else and that is why you want no writes to Drive C? Are you talking about RAM memory? I believe some files are going to end up in the Windows System directory anyway by program design as do other programs, even if you locate the main program components on another drive. Do you have a specific list of files you are concerned about that you would like to list?. What files have you identified that are referencing the C: drive after installing the main software for GEO on drive D? I can remotely access a Geo System and see what you are referring to and perhaps address the specific question.

Yes I do have a very good understanding of Windows XP. And I have worked with PCs and mainframe computers for over 25 years. And you were not talking about stripping away the items from Windows that you don't need. You keep specifically asking how to relocate the Geo software off of the C drive. I can see locating the video files off of drives C as that is the way most people do it. That makes sense. If you want the Geo software on drive D. so bad just deinstall the software off of drive C. and reinstall it on drive D. the mere fact that you're trying to relocate the files at this time shows me that there was poor planning involved. What data files are you referring to other than your video files? I don't want to argue with you. I am trying to help you. I guess I just really don't understand why it is so important for you to have the Geo software on drive D. and why you can't just deinstall it from drive C. and install it on to the drive D. And if this is all about safety and performance issues there are many things that can be addressed that affect performance and safety.
  8. When quoting your firmware and software versions did you get them mixed up? What doesn't make sense is that all of the systems appear to have developed the same problem at the same time. Are all the systems unique and not linked up in some way? It's possible that a Microsoft update could cause such a thing but it is doubtful. Were these systems all running okay and then developed a problem? From a technical troubleshooting standpoint some information appears to be possibly missing or inaccurate. You have a mixture of systems so there is no commonality there. Did recently do a software upgrade on all the same systems around the same time? How much CPU was the DVR program using before it went to 100%?

Sadly you are absolutely mistaken in your belief that by putting the software on another partition or drive that you will be safe from viruses and Trojans. The OS itself will write to the hard drive. And you can use Acronis True Image software to completely backup a partition for easy restoring if necessary. I use it all the time. I really think you're going through a lot of trouble for nothing. I am curious to see the rest of your list though to see what else might be an inaccurate statement. No insult intended but it seems to me that you don't have a good understanding of how Windows XP works.
  10. After reviewing my photographs of that area in the attic I know why I avoided mounting that way. There appears to be another 2 feet of solid concrete above that beam. Plus there is Heat/AC duct work covering that exact area. Back to my orginal mounting strategy. I am just going to have to cover the cable with something to provide minimal protection. Maybe some of those strips people use for cords on carpet, unless someone has some suggestions. I guess I could buy a 4 foot bit and carefully avoid the duct work, but what a hassle.
  11. I guess I could. It's just solid wood, but that would probably be the best way to do it. I will have to recheck the attic situation and see if there is anything in the way. See this is exactly why I will ask what I think is a stupid question because something as simple as what you said escaped me when thinking about this. Duh.

    Site Survey Camera

That was my point basically. It won't work. You need a viewfinder, spot monitor or hold the camera in the position of mounting in order to see the true view. If you feel the value of the picture to be a good selling point then just note on the proposal that these are approximate views. Having a viewfinder sound like the best solution and describe the scene as Rory said. Rory is your viewfinder that adjustable to take into consideration sensor sizes and lens differences?

    Site Survey Camera

I tried taking some pictures with a digital camera last night to illustrate the different views available. But after taking the camera up a ladder and recording some video I realized that the camera with a wide angle lens was seeing much more than what the digital photograph showed. So without having a digital camera that has the ability to change lenses that coincide with your CCTV lens the preview shot won't be accurate.

    What time is it?

Your too young to know that song probably. It's from the Movie Purple Rain. And that is how he would start the song out "What time is it!"

    What time is it?

Everytime you ask that question I think of Morris Day. Lyrics Jungle Love Morris Day & The Time {"Oh-wee-oh-wee-oh" will repeat in BG of song} I - I've been watching U I think I wanna know ya (know ya) Said I, I'm a little dangerous Girl, I'd love 2 show ya (show ya) My jungle love, yeah I think I wanna know ya (know ya) Jungle love Girl, I'd love 2 show ya (show ya)

    Geo continuos recording at night

Anything that causes noise in the video will trip the motion recording even if you have a sensitivity adjustment on the DVR. A GEO will do this easily if it is set for 720x480. Some type of bug. Try 640x480 if you haven't tried that. But it sound like something is creating noise in the video. Could be several things causing that. Cheap camera, little bit of light, settings, wiring, etc.
  18. I have to agree with Scott, those cables are terrible. Those cables will break real easy if they even snag a tiny bit. Get yourself some thick siamese cable and buy some twist on BNC connectors. Then you don't have to drill a bigger hole either and it will be much easier to work with. There is a whole thread on that cable to read if you wish.

    Difficulty with DSL Modem

D-Stink. But LinkSys is made by the Cisco Kid. Should be good. I will look into that. I never heard of that brand, but I haven't heard about a lot of stuff that isn't name brand. (Reffering to the Edimax of course) Thanks.

    Difficulty with DSL Modem

I'm not quite sure what you mean by bridging the router to the modem. I have a Linksys router as well that is giving me problems. It seems to lock up every now and then which requires a power cycle in order to correct the situation. Which is a real problem when someone has to go to the location in order to reset the router. I am about ready to remove a router from a system as it seems to be more problems than it's worth. I will set up a software firewall to give me some protection. The Linksys model WRT54G seems to have a lot of problems as far as requiring a lot of power recycles. At least with the last two that I have purchased. How many of you are using a router with your DVR's? Are many of you not using a router because of the same issues that I am having?

Newbie here - Need some help!

Also when using a wireless cameras at 2.4 GHz you need to be concerned about interference from wireless routers and also phone systems that use that frequency. And like what was said above your motion detection will be going off all the time causing you to record video which is worthless. Sounds like a wired system is better for you with that budget.

X10 wireless camera are junk, don’t waste your money. They use cheap everything on those. They are always having a sale. They inflate the price sky high so they make you think you are getting a deal. If you go with wireless and you get interference it will cause a lot of noise in the picture and drastically increase your storage needs. Hopefully the wireless experts will chime in to help you with the right setup. Wireless is great if you can get it to work for you.
  24. Can you describe the problem a little more? Are the systems running sluggish all the time, intermittent? Describe the freezing part. What gets stuck? DVR software, system lock up and forces a reboot. Does it freeze up and then recover, etc.
  25. Must be the perfect focus ability of yours or your scene is simpler. Is that the Sanyo Dome you are quoting as I know each camera is unique is its storage needs?
