The color is nice, but it can't compete with the sharp picture and low light sensitivity of a BW camera. Also need higher storage requirements for the color cameras. I would use a dome if someone can reach the camera at all. More expensive, but better off in the long run.

Why do you want no writes on drive c: ? Are you thinking you are going to improve performance or something? Are you trying to keep just the OS on drive C and all the apps on drive d:? I am trying to understand what the purpose is so we can better address the issue. What exactly are you trying to accomplish and why?

SATA or IDE Hard Drives?
Jasper replied to kandcorp's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
My statement is still an accurate one regarding no drive is able to achieve data transfer rates of 150MBps. A raptor is capable of about half of that speed. Now if put them in a RAID you can get faster data transfer rates, but one drive by itself gets nowhere near even the SATA I specification. SATA II is just a larger lane for data. It will allow developing technologies to have the ability to transfer 300MBps, but right now spending more money on SATA II over SATA I is just a waste of money as far as data transfer rates are concerned. You might be thinking of internal data transfer rates which is different and does not have to do with actual data transfer rate from the hard drive to the BUS. -
That would be the Dude. I was going to say external media also, but I didn't feel like editng my post. Get lazy after being up for 24 hours. You really have to not only know a program very well to do what you want to do, but also know the Registry very well. I would reinstall on drive D: You can contact GeoVison tech support if you feel you really have to do what your asking about. They should be able to put you on the right path.

What your talking about can be very tedious seraching the Registry. I don't know what information your are concerned about losing, but if you have accumulated data files that you don't want to lose I guess you will have to just carefully check every file and the registry for C: drive references. But even then it still may not work due to some unforseen reason that may arise. Sometimes drive reference can be stored in files that you can't edit. So I am not really sure myself if you can accomplish what you are trying to do. ScottJ would probably be the person to tell you how to approach this.

I tested this feature as well and you really have to setup it up just right to get the best results. I remember Rory posted a link a while back that showed some very sophisticated counting software. Even some that could count people in a crowd. I have to experiment with it some more as I my results were not great.

Yes, you should export the registry keys to your hard drive in case something gets screwed up. If you can backup the whole system that would be even better. You might want to search for a Drive Mapper program that will do this all for you. Partion Magic has one. But honestly I would just deinstall it from drive C and reinstall to Drive D making sure you note all your configuration settings.

What is the difference between the CCTV and the Camera Lens?
Jasper replied to avinsinanan's topic in Security Cameras
CCTV just stands for Closed Circuit Television. Cameras use CCD, Charged Coupler Devices Also CMOS, but avoid these for security purposes. Good for Webcam for computer, but that's about it. Lenses on the camera can be fixed or adjustable, known as varifocal. The C-mount and CS-mount lenses are the most popular lenses. I would do a search for CCTV terms and read through them to familarize yourself with the terminology and of course read through this forum. Welcome and enjoy learning. There is a lot to learn. -
DVR FPS Question 120fps vs 240fps - is it split by channel?
Jasper replied to RichTJ99's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Rory, are you using the FastMpeg4 codec or Regular MPEG4? Also are you using the highest quality setting of 5? I have 1 Sanyo Dome recording at 7fps and it was averaging 20MB per 2 minute file. 40MB per 2 minute file at 10fps. You seem to be getting better compression if your running all cameras at 30fps. How did you manage that? Motion detection recording? -
The service is named: Security Center (no wonder I couldn't remember it). I disabled this service. Sorry if you have already tried this, just trying to help.
-
I had this same problem a while back. I had to do an exact combination of settings for security in order to get it to work. Unfortunately I didn't document what they were. Another time I actually stopped the security service which I think allowed me to do the install. I don't know if you've already tried this but Rory knows the name of the service I don't remember it at the moment

Sounds like a question for GeoVision technical support. Have you tried them?

Which of these 3 PC Based systems do you prefer?
Jasper replied to G22's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
I voted for Geo, but I haven't used a Video Insight card so I can't really say anything bad about that card. If anyone that sells Video Insight cards wants a honest review I would be more than happy to test one if you are willing to send me one. -
I would try to purchase a larger hard drive as you can get 250 GB hard drives for about $69 on sale. You can mount some domes vertically you just have to check the specs. I just mounted a dome last night vertically and it works fine. Without actually being able to see the building I can't really give you any advice regarding camera placement. Maybe some of the other people can address some of your other questions.

If you're talking about burning surveillance video to a DVD to be played in a standalone player you would need special software to convert your video that uses a special codec to MPEG-2 which is the codec used to burn DVDs. You can then use other programs such as Nero that will trans-code the MPEG-2 files to VOB files which are how the files are named on a DVD.

They have 3 of them on the keyboard now. The one you hate. A soft touch membrane type. And the third one which I don't use much. This model also has the embedded security chip and auto hard drive protection feature.

I have an IBM T42 ThinkPad. 2 GHz (Pentium M. processor), 1 GB memory, 60 GB hard drive 7200 rpm and I believe a 15 inch high resolution screen. Once I used a ThinkPad I never wanted to use anything else but I know there are many good laptops out there. I bought this in August of 2004 and paid $3800 which was a deal at the time. IBM now Lenovo have an excellent reliability and service record. The ThinkPad series of laptops has been the most popular laptop for many years. If I didn't need portability I would definitely buy a desktop. You get so much more for your money and endless expansion options. That second ASUS laptop in the above link looks real nice.

I watched every extreme video on that site. I got a headache. Lot of crazy stuff on there. The DEA agent that accidentally shoots himself during a gun safety demonstration is crazy. He tries to continue the lecture and ask his partner to bring over another gun and the kids in the classroom are going nuts thinking this guy will let loose a stream of bullets.

best connections to lcd monitor?
Jasper replied to sf1964's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Thats why I bought a DLP screen. Better Technology. Don't have to worry about pixels dying and ruining your picture. Plasmas look better, but they haven't quite perfected them yet. Plus their a lot more expensive. I just change a light bulb when my DLP set goes out. No pixel death. -
Not only that, but he is one heck of a driver. Never seen somebody escape the "PIT" maneuver so many times. He could have made a living stunt driving. Really good at regaining control of his car.

best connections to lcd monitor?
Jasper replied to sf1964's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Monitor, TV - same thing. If it has a tube forget it. They have kits to make worn out tubes look better, but nothing will remove the burn in that I am aware of. -
Yeah, why is he dragging the body away. Doesn't want the customers to see it or what? Could be real. Lot of idiots out there.
-
Yeah, that site is brutal. Don't check out much, get tired of seeing all of the gore. I was thinking more about interesting security videos.
-
The one you showed me or another one on that site? Or what? I like those videos. I didn't check to see if there were any other videos.

Does anyone recognize this DVR card or software?
Jasper replied to RichTJ99's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
I can't believe how many people get burned on eBay. I will only buy something from eBay if I know the item real well and I'm able to speak with the seller and also have some recourse. People think they're getting a deal but they end up spending twice as much money than what they would have if they would have just bought the real product in the first place.
