Saving Avi Files with new geovision software
Jasper replied to paowens76's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
The error message you received seems to imply that saving the file to the CD directly won’t work due to the merging of the separate video streams. The program probably needs to have the hard drive to properly merge the files. That is what the backup program is for. Create the backup and then write it to CD\DVD. You won’t be able to extract an exact amount of video like you can with the Save AVI file option, but it work. Hope this helps. -
Yeah I understand. I probably shouldn’t mention any names either. These company’s need to make every effort to make things right though. Statistics show that one unhappy customer will tell on average ten people, who in turn are very unlikely to do business with a company based on your experience. That was before the internet. But in fairness I will edit out the company name and just contact them once again to let them know they need to make things right. I wouldn’t want somebody to talk bad about my business. So I will remain silent, at least in public regarding my experience with a particular company. That’s just good business.

I know that if I was you and that happened to me I would be done with them. Unless there was some way they could make it right? But if it cost you a job or account they can’t make it right. So you just make sure they don’t ever put you in that position again. Thank god the parts I ordered from "Censored" were for family or I would really be upset; like you are. Don’t let them cost you anymore money. Like I said if they can make it right, than great, you can come back and write about it. But as it stands now I would be looking to buy from someone else. JMHO.

I recently returned a camera that was not the camera I ordered. Not only did I not get what I ordered, but they didn’t credit me the shipping charges for sending it back. See, now you got me started.

Yeah, that might very well be the case?

The small delay when listening live is normal. Your having the problem when using Webcam, but it is working fine locally, so it doesn’t seem like a sound card issue or a microphone. You wouldn’t have good audio in local playback if there was a microphone problem. I just tested a Geo setup today with a microphone and it works fine over a LAN. I have the gain at 5 and the sensitivity is set at 8, but the system is using a more expensive Louroe Microphone. I don’t know what the problem is off hand, but I would make sure that you have connected everything correctly to eliminate that as being a possibility. Other than that I would search the forum for this same problem as I know someone had this same issue in the recent past. I know Scott has dealt with this issue maybe he or someone else will chime in with some additional information.

I use external hard drives to raise the storage capacity, plus the benefit of the user being able to take the hard drive home to review video if they wish. Hard drives are very inexpensive compared to what they were just a couple of years ago. 250GB seems like very little hard drive space for 17 cameras, but I know many people are doing it. Using RAID is good, but you probably should increase the size of the hard drives if your considering going up on the frame rate. 1 Terabyte would be the minimum I would probably use for a 16 camera system. Storage requirements will vary greatly though due to the camera used, the compression methods used and especially lighting issues.

The worst problem here is that the guy told him he would test the equipment and apparently didn’t. Now he has two more bad cameras. That is where this was handled wrong. The guy could have told him he didn’t have time to test it. He is in this bind because he trusted his supplier to do what he asked. There is no excuse for that. All the other stuff you said Scott, I agree with, but not this guy saying he would test something and leaving this guy in a bind by not doing so.

I can hear the frustration in your posts. When you’re in the situation where you can easily lose a job or account because of one of your suppliers and that happens, it is time to find a new supplier. I can’t tell you that amount of times I quite using a supplier because they cannot get me the equipment when I need it or they say they tested something and then I receive it not working. I know you’re in a bind, but I would probably get the equipment from someone else. I had this same situation happen no to long ago and I will be damned if I am going to give my money to some company that is causing me to lose it. I hope you get this worked it, because I know how aggravating it is.

Yeah, you would need to run on it on the work machine. If your are trying to monitor DVR events at home. You would need to have some hard drive space on the work machine, in addition to having access and permission of installing it on the work machine. I don’t know your situation. I don’t think would need much PC power to run the program though. The video transmitted to you would have already been compressed and processed before you would receive it at work. So any machine that can play back video files should work for you. CenterV2 is flexible in its configuration, so you should be able to make something work for you. You may want it to only send you video when motion is detected or when the video signal is lost to a camera. Play around with it, you’ll get it tailored to your needs. I was looking into the email ability in the beginning as well, but CenterV2 is really the better solution. You can only have one version running at time though, whereas email you could send to multiple parties at the same time. -
If the card your using allows you to do what Rory said, then that is the easiest solution. As long as they don't prevent the DVR software from running and gain access to the system. What card(s) are you using?

You can eliminate people from installing applications by setting up the system with you as the administrator. Then you create a user account for them to use. This will take care of them installing stuff you don’t want them too, creating headaches for you. Don’t know how technically inclined you are, but you can search Google for Permission settings under Windows. This should help you figure out how to set the system up so only you can install programs.

What type of Microphone setup are you using? Have you tried adjusting the Gain? What is the speed of the connection? Have you tried it on a LAN? When you play it back locally it sounds completely normal? Usually one someone has this problem it is because they have the gain up to high on the microphone. Not sure what is going on with your situation.

What is your recording volume level set at? What is the sensitivity set at

Well actually PC based DVR’s are much more flexible, but a stand alone isn’t necessarily bad. You will get the best quality with a PC based system. You might want to check out the GeoVision home page for information on their DVR cards. http://www.geovision.com.tw/english/index.asp There a quite a few DVR cards available, but Geo seems to be the most popular.

Probably don’t want you to get it dirty so you can get the full effect. It don’t think it is to lessen your exposure to Radiation, but maybe they thought about the guy who would put his eye next to it. As far as using it in the sun, well your Rory your just plain crazy. And I like that about you.

Here is a Fresnel Zone calculator: http://www.radiolan.com/fresnel.html -
Do you want a standalone unit for that budget or do you have a computer that can be dedicated for a security system? If you have a computer you’re not using that much you can use that as the DVR and get better equipment for the rest of your system.

Have you used CenterV yet? You can get a video clip sent to a remote computer right after motion is detected or any other device that you choose to trip the cameras. -

Check out this web site: http://www.modemhelp.org/setdef.html Maybe there is a way for you to send AT commands to the modem to get it to do you what you want. That modem was a speedster in it's day. -
That’s right; we rich guys use X10’s. How else you do you think we can save enough money to be rich. If the cheap stuff works no need to buy any fancy stuff.

Oh, sorry. When you come to the states that is one of the things you need to check out. Especially one of the IMAX theatres with humongous screens. You would really get a kick out of Universal Studios though. They have one in Florida I believe. I went to the one here in Hollywood. It is a big kids dream place and little kids also.

In a Galaxy, far, far, away. Until you take that space trip, you can check out the sample trailers. Nothing like the Big Screen though. It's worth going to the movies. Not one of those wait for DVD types.

That still isn't big enough for him. Here is a nice link to the King Kong web site for those interested. http://www.kingkongmovie.com/
