Those are nice cheap toys that have enabled me to turn lights on and off for over 20+ years. One of the best investments for quality of living.

Saw this last night. It had good special effects, but there were definitely some flaws. Kong looked great. The other creatures in the pictures weren’t bad either. It was a long movie though. They could have shortened a bit. It is definitely the best movie out there right now. Here is a little bigger picture to do Kong Justice

Hooking up stuff to the Geo seems to be of interest to several people, including me. Does geo have a document or some other information regarding the types of things that can be accomplished through these extra connections?

For that kind of stuff an X10 is great. You can control just about everything.

LinkSys WRT54G Router Setup - Can't Access Internet - Flakey
Jasper replied to Jasper's topic in Computers/Networking
I didn’t call LinkSys and I got the router working. After much trial and error it came down to these steps to get it working. Here is what I did: Repeatedly reset the router by pressing the little recessed button on the back of the router for 5 seconds, this would allow me to communicate with the router through the browser admin screen. After several failed attempts to update the firmware I was finally able to do so. You need to just keep trying if it doesn’t work at first. The firmware version that came with this router was 1.0.0.0, first release. The current version is 1.0.0.4 released December 9, 2005. The router has been working fine since I was able to perform the firmware upgrade. Hope this helps anyone here that might end up with this router. -
LinkSys WRT54G Router Setup - Can't Access Internet - Flakey
Jasper replied to Jasper's topic in Computers/Networking
I went to The Linksys website and followed the recommendation of trying to update the firmware in the router with the hopes that this might solve my internet connectivity problem, but now the router is not responding at all. I am done with this router for tonight. Will let you know what Linksys tells me about this router. I don’t want anybody else to go through what I have with this router. From what I have read on the internet, many people are having problems with this router. Maybe best to steer clear of this model. -
That is a good question. Many people have that same concern. You can have a 500 Milliamp power supply (transformer), that can have a camera rated at 300 Milliamp connected to it without worrying about damaging the camera. This is because the camera only uses the amount of power it needs. The 500 milliamps is not forced onto the camera. The more important issue is to make sure that the power supply you’re using to power the camera with has regulated voltage. The power supply should not fluctuate much from 12 volts. Some cameras and equipment in general are more forgiving than others when it comes to providing the incorrect voltage.

Years ago I worked for a company that specialized in setting up POS systems, but I have lost touch with the changes and advances. If you find a site that covers that area please let us know.

I am surprised his wife’s photo is on the cover. For many years he didn’t go out of his way to show her picture in fear of kidnapping, etc. That’s what I really like about the Gates’, they help people and the press reports it, not them. You can bet if Donald Trump does anything for anybody he is out to make a buck off of the free press. Bono is a good guy too.

LinkSys WRT54G Router Setup - Can't Access Internet - Flakey
Jasper replied to Jasper's topic in Computers/Networking
I Have everything port forwarded to the DVR on the WRT54G, including VNC. Do you just want to take a look at the router settings? Do you want me to remove the VNC port forward so you can see my PC? Oh, I tried the other ports already also. -
LinkSys WRT54G Router Setup - Can't Access Internet - Flakey
Jasper replied to Jasper's topic in Computers/Networking
The default from LinkSys is for DHCP client PC to start with 192.168.1.100, but I always change it to 192.168.1.2. The router is always 192.168.1.1, DHCP is turned on and functioning as the PC is assigned 192.168.1.2. Tried replacing the CAT5 cable, but no difference. Besides I can slap my WRT54GS router on there and no problem. I just remove power to the modem and router, then power the modem back up, then the router and it acquires my ISP IP address. Which doesn’t happen with this WRT54G. This router will assigned the private address 192.168.1.2, but it never acquires my ISP IP address. What’s weird it that it will show the two DNS servers like it has a path to the outside world, but I can’t ping my ISP IP address. No problems with the WRT54GS that is on here now. -
LinkSys WRT54G Router Setup - Can't Access Internet - Flakey

I have used the CD that came with it and It shows the local area connection becoming active and acts like the install was successful, but it isn’t. I can see the DNS servers listed when I look at the detail, but still can’t connect to the internet. The weird part is how by pressing the membrane button it creates a device listing of WRT54G under My Network places, then I can invoke it and then I am able to use the browser admin? Unfortunately I am testing it on my connection, so I lose the internet every time I mess around with the thing trying to get it working. -
LinkSys WRT54G Router Setup - Can't Access Internet - Flakey

I have a Linksys WRT54GS and it has worked great. Installed easy and has worked without a hitch for about a year and a half. This WRT54G, nothing but problems. The setup is CAT5 from cable modem to internet port on router. Then CAT5 from network card on computer to a port on the router. I have been able to ping the router; 192.168.1.1, but have not been able to ping the Internet IP address 67.xxx.xx.xx. I have tried removing power to the modem and router many times with no success. The text that follows is some stuff I was typing up before you guys posted some additional posts: I’ve had tried everything trying to get these two routers to work, but I am lucking to get them to access the internet for even a short period of time. I mean I have to really work at I bought them at two different times, from two different places though. That’s why I was thinking maybe there is just some trick or something to getting these things to work. I see that 34Ford bought one of these models not to long ago and he didn’t have any issue other than connecting the cables backwards, which I did a few times myself. I need to color code everything. I hate having to call tech support regarding this stuff though because I don’t know what country I will be talking too and will have to spend time doing everything I have already tried with them on the phone. They make you do that just to make sure you didn’t miss anything. Last time I had a problem like this with a NetGear router I spent over 3 hours phone time with people in India and got nowhere. I ended up just eating the router and stuffing it away somewhere. -
Have you perused through all the information available here? I have seen quite a few posts on POS in the past couple of months. Also there are several knowledgeable people that know POS pretty well that frequents this forum. Do you have a particular question you want answered? Try posting it and see if you get a reply. Do you mean straight POS systems only, without a DVR being involved?

Comcast finally got around to increasing their download speed from 4mbps to 6mbps. The upload is still capped at 384kbps or around 44KBps upload. This is a consumer account though. Prices should be dropping for high speed internet, which will have many more people considering buying a DVR, knowing that they can remotely monitor and playback video. People might spring for higher upload speed if the price comes down into a more attractive pricing structure. It will in time. Just hope that time is soon. It will make many things much more possible.

Curious, did you find out what was causing the CPU to run so high?

I asked this same question awhile back. I gave up on connecting mine. Too much hassle, unless you can easily access it. I didn’t connect it and it hasn’t hung up yet. You can enable the reboot feature through the software and have it reboot once every 24 hours. There is also an older thread that talks about this question. Hope this helps.

I have done business with them. You just need to make sure you carefully pick out what you want. Their policy is they don’t except returns of Geo cards. They do phone verification if you ordered over the internet or should tell you when you are on the phone with them. Other than that I received the product and it works fine. They say they offer lifetime technical support, but I have never called them.

I am still confused as to what he has. First he says he has 120fps card, then he says it’s a 20fps card. If you go to Geovisions web site they say it is a 15fps card. So no you’re still not clear, but good luck.

Video Input extension, I guess you referring to extending the dongles on the back of card? I can’t give you a solution unless specify what you would like to do. You still have(edit) "Not" told me what card you have. With such vague information you’re only going to get vague responses. I wish I could read minds, I would be able to join the Physic network.

Can you make a list of things you tried so you’re not asked to do something you already tried? Because with so little information your going to get answers like did you check the speakers. That is because in trouble shooting you have to start out with the most obvious and work your way up to the more complex issues. Need to narrow down the possibilities, so we can eliminate what would be obvious to us.

What card do you have? Have you checked out Geo’s home page and read through what the accessories are for your card? Usually the place you bought that card from can help you with that.

Just checked out the CGI image. Had you not said it was CGI, in glancing I would have thought that image was real They are getting very good at creating life like images.

How long does the infrared usually last? What is the retail price for replacement of the IR? I would love to have one of these at the house.
