I was going to post a couple of pictures of the one I went to, but can’t find it among the thousands of photos I have taken. Have some pictures of the outside with their humongous parking lot, which is always full from the time they open to the time they close. Took my camera in their one day and took some photos of the inside too. It’s is a high tech persons dream place. Rory, you would definitely appreciate a Fry’s. I really do miss that place. Online with them is nowhere the same as actually being in one of their places. They always have the cutting edge products. Many were made right there where I lived. I think I am going to

Not near where I am at now. I went from Big City life to out in the country. I could buy that stuff anywhere when I was in the Bay Area, but not anymore. I have a Radio Shack nearby, but they have hardly anything because there is no demand for it in the country. Big difference when it comes to high tech items. I miss my Fry’s Electronics.

Connivance. High gas prices. Price. (especially since you told me what they cost you) And I am not real close to any of those you mentioned.

Here is the website I bought them from. They are real cheap. http://www.cablewholesale.com/index.php Here are the part numbers I used and the cost. 10D1-03203 DB9 Male / DB9 Female, 9C, Serial Cab 10H1-01206 HD15 (VGA) Male / HD15 (VGA) Female,

Did you try doing a continuity check on all the pins passing through the cables? Is there another cable you can try? If the cables are good you have some other issue that I haven’t run across, yet. I don’t know what is going on?

Bad cable? I extended the video and audio using the extension cables and have had no issues. Definitely beats trying to get behind the computer and work with those dogone dongles. My card is the 1240-8, so only 1 cable needed for the video. 1 for audio.

Where has it been released to? Just checked Geo’s homepage, still see 7.05 there. Maybe you saw a beta?
-
You think maybe it is the tool(s) or compression type fittings you are using? What tool(s) and fittings are you using?

Can anyone tell me what these files are?

Maybe you can figure out how to just send the codec to him, if that is an option. -
Went back into the recent archives for this thread. Has some dicussion on video cards. http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=3127

Any news on the release? Are they pulling a Microsoft?

Now that's what I was talking about. Nice touch with the note from you to you.

Any suggestions on that third party? I think he is wanting the challenge of hooking it up and getting the reward of a job well done.
-
Youch!!! Let’s keep our external devices attached.

Well it's good to get those boys cold. I hear it is good for production.

Yeah, we all need that stuff. I could use some for my body.

Unless you need a specific temperature measurement at your place of monitoring you are going through way too much trouble to find out the outside temp. Like Rory said, you can just have a program like “WheatherBugâ€

Foolproof, no such thing. Put them on, use a compression crimper for them. I guess snap and seal? 5.00 for each connector. Twist ons are sounding better all the time. More foolproof and cheaper. Welding, Arc or Gas?

Since you’re considering a V-8 maybe you should get one of those new Impala’s that are V-8, but will adjust down to 4 cylinders if you need it. That way you get the best of both worlds. Still about 2.30 here

No disrespect intended, but I have to disagree with the recommendation of an internal hard drive. An external hard drive will be plenty fast to record 8 channels of video across a USB or FireWire connection, if that is that case? They also offer the portability function which is very nice to have if you want to have maximum flexibility. I use a USB hub and use several hard drives connected to the computer to allow me to easily take a hard drive out for review and to easily add more storage capacity.

Makes sense now that I think about it. Geo has their proprietary codec which only their players recognize so when you save the file as an AVI it is actually converts the file from their codec to a Windows Media Player format.
-
I noticed that as well. I think Geos players are setup to compensate for the frame rate to it doesn’t appear sped up, but fluid. I didn’t know that you could save as an AVI though and make it play normal through Windows Media Player. That’s good to know. Thanks.

Did you end up getting some sensors? What did you get and how is it working out for you?

Where do you get your parts from
Jasper replied to eyeonutech's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
I shop online myself for computer parts and usually buy them on a component basis. Unless you’re really plan on moving a lot of parts and spending a great deal of money then your best bet is to shop around like the rest of us. Otherwise if you plan on dealing in volume maybe somebody else can give some suggestions on who you can buy from. -
If the image is bad to start with there isn’t much you can do to improve it. You might be able to clean it up a bit. Enlarging an already poor image will just distort the image more. As far as the best software, that is subjective. Depends on what exact features you need. Then somebody can give their opinion on what they think might work for you.
