    wireless cams compared to hardwired?

WirelessEye, Your right, I think the majority of the public and probably quite a few CCTV people don’t know much abut what can be done with the new wireless technologies. I am one of those people. You’re the expert and I was hoping you would comment on wireless. When I think about installing a wireless camera system in my home for example I don’t know how I would get around interference from wireless routers broadcasting in the 2.4Ghz range, microwave ovens, home video transmitters and more. I for one would be interested to learn more about what can be done with wireless these days and what the requirements are for a wireless installation. I would like to know if there is a wireless solution that a person could use around this type of equipment and have it perform well. Are you able to eliminate interference and provide a consistently good signal without interference from such devices. What determines when wireless can be used, aside from the money for the installation? If you have spoke on this topic in some depth on the forum or have a link to more information about wireless I would like to read about it. Scott, You are right as well. In my test of the wireless camera it was an inexpensive Remington wireless that I have had for years. It worked well for me for a while until I upgraded my wireless phones from 900Mhz to the 2Ghz range which is what this camera uses. Then when I added a wireless router I received more interference which stopped me from using the camera any longer. I think your right about how people equate wireless to cheap solutions like X10, which has done a great disservice to the wireless camera image. I don’t mean to insult wireless. I am just like many other people that don’t know much about it and the little experience a lot of people have had with wireless has been bad. A thread about what wireless can do and not do would be great if it hasn’t been done already. It would definitely educate the many of us that know little about it.

    wireless cams compared to hardwired?

There is no comparison. If you need wireless that is one thing, but if you don’t you can’t beat wired cameras. With proper cabling you don’t have to worry about interference like you do from a wireless. Another consideration is motion detection. Just yesterday I tested a wireless camera and set my GeoVison 1240 card for motion detection and the motion detection was being set off constantly due to intermittent noise setting it off. There is another forum member who is really into wireless, maybe he will read this and give his take on the wireless side.
  3. I think the link provided by SpyTown has its uses, but for quickly determining a lens size this program is very good. A graphic representing the subject through the lens is great for explaining what each view will look like. A picture is truly worth a thousand words in this case.

New Geovision 7.1 Features and Hardware

Yeah I would rather wait for something that isn’t going to cause as many headaches. Thanks for the update.
  5. As far as professional, the whole setup isn’t professional so if Cam Wizard or something else meets his needs that is all that is important. Are their any other inexpensive programs that you tested that might meet his needs?
  6. Geovison is very popular and has lots of features. They update their software regularly. And if you’re like me and many others you will like that you can find much helpful information on the GeoVision. That’s my two cents worth.
  7. I checked it out and it is a very easy to use program. You can figure out what lens you need real quick!

    WizKid WZ15N

I have one of those cameras and there is no IR filter on it. And you can easily tell by looking at the color distortion the camera will produce.
  9. Oh, Sorry. I guess you'll have to google it then?
  10. Is Cam Wizard software going to work for him in this setup? It is designed for a Web Cam, does that make any difference? It looks like a good little program if it will work for him. Here is a link to a site selling the Power VCR II software. http://store.purplus.net/cypoiide.html
  11. Looks like the Cam Wizard software will do motion detection. http://www.soft14.com/Home_and_Education/Home_and_Lifestyle/Cam_Wizard_10627_Review.html Have your tried installing the Cam Wizard software to see what that does for you? On the CyberLink PowerVCR II you don’t need to try and install it anymore. There is definitely something that is preventing it from running. I am not familiar with that particular program, but am wondering if you even need it if you are going to use the Cam Wizard software for monitoring the camera. As long as the drivers for the card you installed are working, which you can tell by right clicking on my computer, then choosing properties, then hardware, then device manager and looking for display adapter, then click on the + sign to see the listing below that. You can then put your cursor over your card listed there and right click on it, choose properties and on the general tab it well tell you if your card is working properly or not.

    Computer to DVR?

IP addresses that start with 10. and 192. are known as non routable addresses and are used for private use such as what you are trying to do. These addresses are not intended to be accessed from the internet. This article written by Thomas is a good one regarding networking. I wish I would have had access to an article like this when I fist started out. Check it out if you if you would like. http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=1048
  13. If you saw someone on this forum that knows something about this product why not private message them and see if they will help you? I have never heard of it, but that isn’t saying much.

ACs - anyone know anything about them

Good. You need that air conditioning there. Glad I didn't have to trouble shoot this with you. Was going to have you record the sound and send it to me for analysis.

    system design for home setup

I just bought a GV-1240 8 channel combo card that I am real happy with. If you want the real time display of the video your cameras are seeing and audio ability it is a good card. If you don’t care about seeing the display update at the same rate that the cameras are set at and not having audio ability then you can get a GV-800 cheaper. 8 cameras should be plenty for a normal house. But if you got a big house and you can go over your budget then a 16 channel card might be the ticket.

Geovision 1240 DSP Not Working Properly

I have searched my registry and have discovered that I have .NET Framework version 1.1.4322 not 1.1 on my DVR.

Geovision 1240 DSP Not Working Properly

Scott, I don’t think I have Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 on my DVR. I would think I would see it under the add/remove programs. I have it installed on my personal computer with an ATI 9800 Pro and it shows it in add/remove programs. I don’t not see this same listing on the DVR add/remove programs list? So as far as I know I don’t have Framework 1.1 on my DVR?

    Geo webcam problems

Well Rory figured it out. That doggone router needed to be port forwarded to 81. Don’t know what I did to make port 80 quit working, but I will definitely look into it. Thank you very much Rory.

Nope. You sure you don't want to log on? If I am doing something wrong, I am too tired to notice it. I don't have a clue what is going on.
