    16-ch MUX question

The Model WJ-HD316A has two independant, fully configurable 60 ips refreshed multiscreen monitor outputs, plus an independant RGB out.

    Exact Power and modulator help

The CVC-7706 draws 20VA; so use a ALTV2416300UL. The Sanyo DVR has looping outputs so it's best to connect Cameras -> DVR -> Video Modulator. And there's the problem. The highest number of channels I've used is four with the 5445. When I have a large number of channels I just run Wireline Ethernet or High Capacity WiFi (A+G) and access the DVR's web view with the user's PC

Plan Design for CCTV Jobs, which software

I love Visio! For a proposal, the best items that Visio can contribute are Site Plans, Room Plans, Conceptual Block Diagrams and Point-to-point diagrams (submittals). Most of the Consulting Engineers I work with use AutoCAD, and we do as well, but for my own work I use Visio. I found the best way to learn Visio is to take a diagram someone else has created and play around with it. The diagrams will all come with the stencils that supported it, so it makes changes a snap. My Xdrive account seems to be down for the last day, but I'll post an example when it comes up.

License Plate Capture Camera & Settings Debate

I really prefer a conservative approach with a good, IR sensitive camera in the 850nm range, coupled with an LED-based IR Light (safety reasons) that is controlled by a photoelectric sensor. If you have a good lens and a sensitive camera, the camera's AGC circuit does not have to work overtime and produce grain that could obscure a Tag. Cameras that have a Day Night "Auto2" setting that prevents hunting when the IR light comes on are also preferable. My "goto" combos are as follows with Fixed Applications: Expensive: Extreme Super LED 850nm, 30 degree FOV, Panasonic WV-CL924A Less Expensive: Extreme as above with Panasonic WV-CP484

    Good Day / Night Cameras?

A little higher and you can get theWV-CP484

    License plate capable cameras

A repeat from a previous post The Panasonic Model WV-CL924 not only has a Color to B/W switchover circuit, but includes smear reduction technology that will reduce the vertical streaks caused by vehicle headlights and license plate lights. The WV-CL924 is well matched to Extreme's IR illuminator Model Super LED, producing IR in the 850 nm range. Don't forget the Aspherical lens with cameras of this type of sensitivity. A lower cost solution can also be the Panasonic Model .WV-CP484 coupled with an Aspherical Lens (about f/0.75 or f/1.0) The Extreme CCTV REG is also an excellent choice and includes data capture of vehicle tags

License Plate Capture Camera & Settings Debate

Adam - there's a whole list of criteria to consider for this app. before considering camera settings. First off, this is a good thread to research. 1-Are you satisfied with just Vehicle Tag recording? Sometimes we spec cameras for both vehicle/personnel/tag identification and the product does nothing well. If you confine the choice, you'll have a better chance at success. A Day/Night camera, coupled with the correct IR illuminator can light up a (domestic US) Tag quite nicely, but you'll miss the details of the vehicle itself. 2-Will the capture be done at night? If so, the camera should be able to deal with smear (vertical streaks caused by headlights). 3-Do you need the Data from the Tag or just an image of the Vehicle Tag? Today's Megapixel cameras can resolve details from tags at a further distance. There are also specialized systems that will capture the data as well. That said, use of the shutter mode will require a better (aspherical) lens to get more light; otherwise the image from the tag will be just dark. Shutter use is much more difficult than the use of continuous recording together with a constant light source (IR, Metal Halide or Strobe). Since the light varies outdoors, ATW should be used and not a fixed white balance setting. Using the right camera to start with will require less camera adjustments to get the right images.
  9. True. However, if it is truly to see the license plate for drive-off's, you can mount the camera in a much more accessible area and still be out of the way of vehicles and customers. The newer cameras I'm speaking of have very compact housings.
  10. Another approach might be to use some of the newer IP Cameras that have built-in Alarm Capability, Storage Cards and the ability for an external trigger. Why not tell the Svc station to put in a physical loop detector that will cause the IP Cam to just capture stills? When a drive-off occurs, the owner simply gets the images from a removeable card in the camera and transfers them to a PC. This'll get you below the $1500 limit!

    PTZ / Zoomed in shots?

I just posted this in the License Plate thread: The Panasonic Model WV-CL924 not only has a Color to B/W switchover circuit, but includes smear reduction technology that will reduce the vertical streaks caused by vehicle headlights and license plate lights. Remote viewing slow

Have you tried changing the resolution at the camera itself (instead of the recording software)? See if lower bandwidth usage parameters such as: Image size, Compression / Image Quality or Refresh Rate.

Any suggestions for License Plate Cameras?

I definitely agree with the Panasonic WV-CL924 and Extreme CCTV Reg recommendations. The Panasonic Model WV-CL924 not only has a Color to B/W switchover circuit, but includes smear reduction technology that will reduce the vertical streaks caused by vehicle headlights and license plate lights. The WV-CL924 is well matched to Extreme's IR illuminator Model Super LED, producing IR in the 850 nm range.

    JPEG2000

I agree. The manufacturers that are introducing dual simultaneous stream and alternate stream IP Cameras recommend the use of the MPEG4 for observation and MJPEG for recording. This gives the user the best of both worlds - low bitrate monitoring and the opportunity to distribute the recorders to telecom closets to reduce bandwidth on the overall network.
