I am wanting to purchase the following: Avermedia NV5000 Video Capture Card 9 Port 12V 5A Power Supply Box for CCTV Cameras [edit by mod-store link removed] High Res Outdoor Day/Night Varifocal Dome Camera [edit by mod-store link removed] This camera will monitor a drive way entrance. I want to see who is coming in the drive way. The width of the drive way is 8ft and about 30ft long. The purpose for the multi power supply I want to add more cameras later. One for the front door. i.e. KG-602IR Sony SuperHad Color 0-LUX Camera [edit by mod-store link removed] Then later I will add 2 more to cover the back yard. I am not sure of the quality of the power supply. I have a dell 2.8 Intel processor puter with 2 gig of ram and will get 2 segate 1.5 terabytes 5400 spin in raid setup. The operation system will be on it own hard dirve. I am not sure of the cameras. I wanted the dome for the drive way because the intruder would not know which way it is pointing. The front door camera will monitor who come to the door, UPS, etc. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. My neighbor son grew up and just return from college. He seemed drugged all the time. My car got scratches and egged in the drive way. Garbage left at the front door and beer bottles on the side walk. I just want to discover who is doing it to get the police involve.

The software I am going to get does not seem it will group hard drives. These are the recording features: Recording Features: Recording Modes Continuous, Scheduled, Motion Detection, Sensor trigger, Alarm trigger and Smart recording HDD Size Estimation Tool Yes - Will estimate HDD size and expected recording time based on HDD size and recording settings Video Encryption Yes Video Shield Yes Video Mask Yes Recycle Recording Yes Video Loss Detection Yes Event Log Yes Auto Record after Reboot Yes It does not mention anything about grouping hard drives. If it does I would save on the raid card. Good point though. I will look more into the soft ware to see if it does group hard drives.

Thank you for the quick replies. katie, should I use the same camera for the front door too? I would want to capture who is coming to the front door. And the street in front of the house. I would say from the front door to the far end of the side walk is about 12ft. I would like capture another 12ft and the whole front. I decided to go with the DVR Card. The one I chose is expandable to 16 cameras. But I will ultimately used eight, recording at 15fps. The card is 120fps capable. I will go with the camera you recommended. It cost less. I like the system you recommended too but I could not shell so much $$ at once. Soundy, I am thinking raid because it will give me more space for recording. A raid setup will make the two drives as one. If something happened I will review and back up what I need on dvd. I will start with one drive. If that suffice I will leave it that way. Thanks again, your replies give me more confidence for this project. I have not done anything like this before. I will order the camera, dvr card and pwr supplies later today.
