Hello All, Been a while for me to post, I had a baby daughter and she takes most of my free time, when I am not trying to get a few winks in! ;o) Anyway I have been building GV systems since before version 5.X came out. I was wondering if anyone could give me the "low-down" on the plus and minus side of upgrading to version 8. There is always musch trepidation on my part until all of the battle scars of new versions heal. I want to try the H.264 codecs, however I am nervous about it. Please shed a light and thanks... AC

Hello Fellow CCTV Junkies, I am in seek on beginning a dialogue to find out the pros and cons of IP cameras versus hybrid analog/ip cameras. I have the largest client that any surveillance customer could ever dream of having and I need to come up with the best solution for them. It is important that these camera locations have the ability to have the following: Stand-Alone Webcam functions Robust FTP features, such as (specific configurable transfer intervals, automatic overwrite protection for client destination folder, touring, great optical and powerful digital zoom as well as large list of protocols to use with the GEOVISION if possible) I also wanted to know if you use the IP camera with a DVR and Regular analog control as well as the IP functionality. I would also be interested in talking about IP video server integration into existing PTZ cameras. But the axis like 2401 could hook up to an existing camera and hopefully control the functions but very limited to control and presets. I need to have tours if possible. Due to the need that this site is HUGE, they wanted presets to dwell for a long time to configure multiple FTP transfers to get pictures uploaded from more than one preset. It was a little challenging to do with the GEOVISION. It only sends FTP to a place and is temperamental at times. Please if anyone could help I would be extremely grateful. I also would like to point out that this size job could very well require help to help design. If there is anyone who could be of help out with the systems design, customer html interfaces for the cameras to maybe MASK AXIS if we had to from the clients. I would be happy to contract out some of the work. I will be waiting to read your replies.

The use of EMT is by standard elecrtical code illegal for outdoor use. The conduit of choice is RIGID galvanized steel pipe. A dull hacksaw blade and a sore arm the friggen crook would have! Take a Hilti nail gun and drive those pipe straps into concrete and that pipe is going no where. We have to use a miter saw with a special black carbon cutting disc to cut that and it makes an aweful racket too! The pipe is used at gas stations and requires heavy bending and a skilled technician. You also can get away with 1/3 less expensive pipe called Intermediate Metaliic Conduit IMC which is easier to gorilla into shapes. As the elbows cost as much as the entire length. There are many techniques to bending pipes and with the right tools you can make the cloest fit. a Hickey bender is the tool of choice for making the tightest fit in the smallest place, such as in a trench. Also threading your own pipe and making your own 90 degree elbows (sweeps). In South Floirda the choice is clear, use PVC and dig 18"-24" down. or Use IMC rigid conduit and dig 8"-10" down legally. Bingo! It cost more, but less to install it if you plan on doing the job to code or even close ;oP ADAM!

What are the differences between the two then?

I have no idea how to connect it I would love for someone to explain how this get's done. We have plenty of access control jobs which make it look simple with stand alone access control devices. Anyone every hear of getting interference over the water when trying to make a wireless network. I have this guard house that has slow ass dsl and wants to share te T1 in the clubhouse instead of being on dsl to view the DVRs. The one board member of the community is strongly against it, why? Too many parts to accomplish the same damn thing. Too many parts. rings pins, crapola to deal with. I gotta tell ya, if any of you CCTV people - from cable humpers to the friggen boss, can make it to ISCWEST this year, you can watch and test these connectors first hand. The guy at one of the booths offered anyone $50 to pull one of those compression connectos off with their bare hands. I tried like a f*cker to do it, not because I wanted the cash so bad, but wanted to put these things to the test. I love them. They come with bnc, f, rca, sma, etc... everything. One of them is a pain, which is the bnc female type which comes with a brass center pin. I do hate the multi piece ones, but even this is worth it as usually, we used to make two bnc ends and use a barrel connector making this thing like very long and difficult to squeeze into an 1/2" outdoor j-box. Really big pain in the starfish! Now with the new female plugs and one male, we eliminated the need for the extra barrel, which sometimes would be a problem due to cheaply made connectors, because saving cash used to be our name of the game, not time. Now I realize with jobs piling up on our list, let's spend a little more to get it done right the first damn time and have our guys in attics, on lifts or ladders or squeezed into a network server rack as for as little time possible and that is why we use these F-CONN connectors. I was using the same ones from Liberty Wire & Cable. It was 50-50 if the center conductor found its way into the tip. Many crimps had to be redone after we connected to the DVR and there was no video. Back up the ladder again. Not fun. Many times you had to redo the crimps on both ends because you didnt know which end was bad. I don't know what kind of bad luck you have had with these things. I feel really bad, as these things are awesome. I have no time to play around with these multi piece conectors while my guys ar4 in tight attics at over 150 degrees in the South Florida Heat! Or, if my guys are on a 50 foot lift swinging in the wind. These things work best for us, we use them in tight spaces, where you have literally hundreds of connectors wired together with mux loopouts at a far away install like 350+ miles away. Maybe your copper center conductor is too thing and is hard to get inside, but we love um! Liberty wire blows by the way. Our contacts at Milestek ship instantly and always correct any errors overnight! I hope you guys like sore hands with them twist ones or searching for parts and pins. We hate um! Have a good one! It was a reverse search via google which resulted in a list of ip addresses and log in names INCLUDING ADMIN FUNCTIONS. I got it to work, but pixelated like a mad man. It also froze a few times and was mounted upside down in some Asian office in fact the link was to a asian webpage. I was not so impressed by it, but still needed more time. I didn't want to post it in here as It might not be an intentional public linkand dont know how the admin of this forum would like it. ADAM!~

I have access to the pixord video server, but the acti still doesn't work I already installed the new control. Bummer!

The demos are non-existant for ACTi. I want to see these things work and the demos are not real, they are videos that time out and I cannot even view them. I found Pixords 261 demo online and it was a fake. They used a Video Server called the Pixord 4000 connected to a PTZ which they are trying to pass off as their PTZ. However the PTZ demo has 4 channels?! This is so difficult to get a REAL DEMO! Can anyone help? I also want to know if anyone can get a good demo of any axis ip servers with admin functions as I need to see the FTP functions work, first hand. Thanks.

It is possible to cut doen on the antenna for wireless channels? I heard that you can split the signal for the receiving end of it, but each transmitter needs it's own antenna. I have a project in a high end residential condo, that is spread out like a friggen jig saw puzzle piece and very little line of sight. I need a good solution to send two, three four or more signals with the least amount of antenna clutter. There is also a high chance of vandalism due to kids in the area, so I do not like the wired parabolic dish for 2.4 or 1.2Ghz. I wanna do patch antennas, but I never found them for 1.2Ghz though. I also want to know how many channels wireless anyone has done off og the same point to point shot? I need help with residential repeater towers to get video around the curves of an entrance driveway through the community as well. I would love one antenna solution on each side with multiple inputs and outputs. Anything out there?

Mostly for 1.2Ghz. The antennas get mighty ugly when bunched up on a pole or together. I heard of some people splittling the receive side, but heard it was impossible to do in the TX side, due some magnetic polarization that occurs once the antenna get's radiated. I heard from my satellite and wireless expert (who works for the local television stations setting up the helicopter's 5 Ghz news feeds), that it cannot be done on the TX side, but the RX side could get a splitter, but the dB loss could be quite significant. He's good but I wanted to ask anyone on here has found anything in ou line of work. Thanks for your replies! ADAM!

I did my homework and the dirty work of the twist ons and the crimp ons are just too much of a pain in the ass, with the multiple connector and pins and sleeves! Fagetaboutit! I do want to look for better antenas thought. They sell shrome plates pieces of S#*T and they rust after a month at least in Florida they do!. I wanted a good antenna and sutome cable company. I have some professional cable makers, but the price per foot is going to send their kids to college o on us for sure~! I currently am runninh a solar powered system over 10,500 feet with a COP 5watt transmitter (according to the label), but they always round up if you know what I mean VERN! 380 lines beome 480, 18x optical becomes 1800x zoom, depends on your sales rip, I mean rep. Anyway, I have had good and bad things from there, but they carry a big selection of the wireless kits.

I just wanted to know what ptz cams I could use and what touring ability would it have. I liked the AXIS 241S server as there is this demo in Nebraska at http://63.76.82.235/view/view.shtml?imagePath=/mjpg/video.mjpg&size=1 Awesome PTZ controls by clicking the red crosshairs. They are using a AXIS 241S with Pelco Housing on a PT mount, not a dome. It works awesome and I want to be able to have the same but with my existing dome, which is Linlin or Dynacolor for the GEOVision-Compatability factor. I really want the BEST dwell time and FTP functions for my client. Thanks again and I will do my research onto ACTi. Adam

Is it for multiple users? FOr example, it will limit how much people can download, butdoes it have any affect on the webcam live viewing/listening?

I know it seems like a dumb thread, but I wanted to begin talking about the differences and experiences with using both. I have to do a hugh 100,000 square foot warehouse the customer already ordered 24 volt cameras. I needed to use cat5 and baluns, but ware scared to use 24 volt over cat5 due to past nightmare with 60Hz lines everywhere! Any help?

Wireless IP is not compatable with GEOVision and it was far more expensive to use a wireless IP antennas to beam the T1 out to the area than doing it over video. They want this camera to be moved over and over again during the course of the construction project. Wireless IP cams just didn't add up as they are not that versatile as standard PTZ cams, which can be used in conjunction with our recording system for the job site security.

Hello all, I am Adam and I am new to this forum and wanted to talk shop about some cameras and their ability to capture tag numbers. I would like to post some pictures, but I am not sure of how to do that and as far as the legalities go, I am not sure if I should post a tag number online. I have been working with several different types of cameras such as the SCC4301 and some generic knock offs as well. I wanted to see if anyone knew any tricks on shutter speed, atw, agc, blc/alc, ufo, cia, etc... or other settings regarding tag numbers such as distances, zoom levels and lighting. I have alot to say about them and to add, but I wanted to hear everyone elses opinion, before I offer mine as I do not want to prejudice the request for info with my own theories and stories of aggrivation . ) I look forward to hearing from anyone who KNOWS what they are talking about.

Also the smart recording is greayed out as well. Anyone else have it happen to or have a fix? Greatly appreciate it! Adam!
