Intellicam dvr's work like this: 1.Mux setting: Will record each camera separate. Quad: Will record all 4 cameras as 1 image. On playback if you pick 1 channel it will show you basically 1 quarter of the origional image blown up. Looks really, really bad! 2. Frames: You have 60 frames total to play with. In mux mode the 60 frames will be divided by 4 for a total of 15 frames per sec per camera. In quad 60 frames per "quad" screen since in reality you are only recording 1 image. This DVR uses MJpeg. I read somewhere that each image size is around 8 k. The Merit Li-Lin uses MJpeg also. The image size goes from 6k - 22k. My logical conclusion tells me that if 2 dvr's are using the same compression format (MJpeg, whitch someone else invented no matter how much they claim theirs is proprietary) and the highest size of the Intellicam dvr is 8 K and the highest size of the Merit one is 22K, the Merit one is going to look alot better, no matter the line screen claim. I have personable experiance with the Intellicam dvr's and the recording quality look like ****. I will get a Merit Li-Lin DVR in the next 2 weeks and try it out. So far everything it looks very interesting and it have everything i want from a $500 DVR. Want to check out the recording quality just, but as i said, a 22k image should look better then a 8 K image. Tired of looking for a cheap, good DVR so i hope this is the one.

I have a customer who want a camera overlooking the runway on their airport. He wants to have it displayed on his web page imbedded with the design of the page, showing live video all the time. How do you do that? Does not want the usual "down load plug in and install to work" stuff. The video should just pop up when people go to his site. Should work on Mac and PC. Thanks, Fredrik

The Hunt one is $540 dealer price. Don't no about the Merit Lin-Le dealer price. They are in L.A. so i am going to go down and try one. Went on there website and downloaded the manual. Did not say anything about audio or networking on the site. Might be outdated. Will find out. I read through the manual and the more I like it. Looks very easy to use, using 110V direct and have a feature that if the customer reviews material, and forgets to start recording again, the unit will automatically start after a period you set. I think the networking all suck on these units, but for $500... I just want a unit that is stable, looks good, easy to use and have good recording quality. The networking playback part I don't really care about. We do alot of $3000 jobs, (the going rate for a 4 cam system in small shops) and don't want more phone calls then necisarry. I think the line rate matters but I think the compession level is more crucial ( I might be wrong). On these cheaper systems we usally just use a 14" TV vith VCR built in for back-up, so I don't know if you can see much of a difference. Thinking of using the highest one with a slow frame rate.

Compared the specs and they are identical. It seems like the Merit Li-Lin runs directly on 110V + No pull out drive. Only difference I could see.

We put in about five of them. A couple of really bad things about them: 1 You can't adjust the recording quality, only switch between feild and mux. Mux still looks really bad. 2 not very user friendly to the customer. Still get calls all the time to how to use the thing. 3 they way it is setup to mark/save clips is really bad. Looks like you can only save individual shots, not video It's kind of funny, on Intellicams website they compare the unit to a Av Tech DVR. I personally compared the same unit with the Av Tech one and thought the Av Tech one was alot better. They main reason I picked up the Av Tech one was because they are using wavelet, and i was tired of the chitty recording quality of the Argus/ Intellicam one. The recording quality is so much better. The thing with the Av Tech is that it looks pretty cheap, but they way the menus/software is layed out is alot better. The thing is we put one in, and 2 days later the HD died. I am a little sceptical ow, because a I heard that the Av Tech's DVR have a power supply problem. I don't want to deal with the extra cost/work of adding a computer + this seems really simple to set up. I surfed around and read some reviews, and this one has gotten the best reviews by far. I haven't seen a better webcam anywhere in terms of picture. My customere don't need a fast refresh rate, just a great image so 1 frame every five seconds is fine. Thanks for all the help Fredrik

Does anyone know if there is a free standing 1 channel web server that uses Java, or do I have to get a PCI plug in card and a PC. I was trying to avoid that route. What about a cctv web server that uses MPEG-4? Still need a plugin and/or is it possible to insert video to a web page at all with a MPEG-4 server. Also I need the best possible quality for this. Is there any difference in Compression/Image quality between the different web servers or is "Java" just the same everythere? Any help greately apprichiated

Software as in web design or web cam software? Dreamweaver for the design I know. He has a good web designer that will add the video I think. Wanted to use a hi res regular cctv camera and hook it up to a web server like Av Tech 's one with a static IP. Is it then possible to take that stream and somehow inserte it to the web page without the need for a plug in, or do you have to have a camera directly hooked up to the computer. Mintron makes great cameras. The W1 has 280:1 wide dynamic range. Also love the fact that all there cameras has: S/N Ratio?52dB ( MIN ) / 60dB ( TYP )Â (AGC OFF) http://mintron.com/HTM/Default_A.htm Alot clearer than your regular s/n 48db noise camera. We have put in over a hundred of the Mintrons, and they look great. Between $95 to $200 dealer price.

I am looking for a relay to replace a light switch, so when the security system trips, the light will turn on. Can program the alarm panel to trip a X-10 device to turn on relay, but since it is a commercial building it might not work. X-10 only work with 2-phase wiring. Looking for a relay/light switch that would bypass the normal switch on 12 V input or just by a N.O / N.C. contact. Looking for a simple solution without have to rework the electrical panel. We have been using the bluenet video server but are know switching to the AVTECH web server. Bluenet has there own DDNS host so that is not a problem. The AVTECH doesn't have one so we have to set it up with TZO.com Still figuring it out but the trick is to use a router with a built in DDNS Client software so you don't have to have a PC at the location. The router will send the new IP info to the DDNS host every time the IP changes. We are just putting in standalones. Don't have time to fiddle around with pc based. Everyone wants remote viewing now, put most of our customers don't want to pay for a static IP. (small shops, etc) Setting them up with a dynamic IP, 256 K upload for $27.95 with DSL extreme. WOrks great!

The VGA card add-on for the argus dvr's are no good. Tried a few and the video shakes. Known phenomina. Use the s-video out to your tv if you have an s-video input. Otherwise just a bnc to rca. The argus remote software is ok if it is used on the same network.

True, but still looks alot better then H.263 or jpeg. The file size becomes to big to stream well was my main point. Which DDNS host do you guys prefer for dynamic IP's?

Got Avtech's web server to work with there dvr's. Pretty interesting. You can actually control there dvr through the webserver through a RS-232 cable between the DVR and the webserver. Why bother? My experience of having the DVR itself stream the video is not good. If you have a DVR that records Mpeg-2 for example, the recording quality will be very good since that is a pretty lossless format. Good recording quality = bad web streaming. On the other side, if you have a dvr using H.263 the streaming will be excellent, because of the small file size, like 2-3 k per frame. Doesn't look very good when you blow it up, full frame. I thing to do, i think is to have 2 separate devices. For example now with AVTECH 9 channel. Connect monitor out from DVR to web server in and a RS-232 cable between the units. Now you can control the DVR remotely with a 1 channel webserver! Does also support dynamic IP through a DDNS host like no-ip.com Build in webserver= You can connect to it through a web browser. No dedicated software needed. HUNT's 16 channel dvr's starting at $1750.

I had a 30 min conversation with HUNT here in L.A. and tried 3 of there software demos online. Interesting DVR. You can connect a cd burner w/ a firewire cable, does POS text search with a cash register with a com port out och streams video really well. It doesn't have a webserver built in so you have to download their software to make it work. Not good for pre schools. I am going to go down there and have them demo it for me. I am usally a little sceptical about dvr's that stream video well. The local recording quality then usally looks pretty bad, all jagged when you blow up the picture full frame. Prefer to use a separate web server instead for the streaming part, and leave the recording quality to "best". Question: Has anyone used the avtech DVR's (4 and 9 channel) with there web server? Supposedly you can change channels on the DVR remotely through the webserver. Has anyone made that work? Fredrik

What's Hunts website? AVTech 772 DVR? Who imports it?

Does anyone know where we can get the AVTECH AVC 772 here in the US, or does anyone deal with them directly. I would love to try one out.
