  1. Great, I will definitely take a look at it. I've had my share of mixed pc and dvr based units. I just feel that it's less maintenance for dvr standalones as opposed to the pc, since you have to worry about the several underlining components of a pc (not that I can't do it, just more hassle for the customer). I know the PC based ones are more flexible though, like they can support more channels than 32 if you stack them up with more cards and such.
  2. I was wondering what you guys would recommend in terms of a 32 Channel Standalone DVR? If the price different isn't so much for the D1's but if the difference is quite big, then I guess they would rather go with CIF. I was looking into the Dahua ones but I've never used them. (DH-3204LF-S) The customer I have basically only uses it to record and has output for VGA to a computer monitor, there don't use any loop outs or audio recording. The reason why they're replacing their current machine is because it doesn't support any Iphone/Ipads (NetProMax FX DVR). The company went out of business a while back. I'm up for any recommendations and also, they have another machine (same brand, NetProMax) that does 16 channels. I was thinking of replacing the machine with a new one that supports Iphone/Ipad as well but I wasn't sure if that's a good idea. I really wanted to consolidate both the 32CH and 16CH machines into one but it seems like the only way to do so was to use a PC based DVR?
  3. Thanks, I was thinking the same as well. I got back to the customer about getting the Dahua unit. I've heard good things on the forums with that brand. I've never tried it myself but I would like to install one to see how it performs.

    Netpromax DVR

I'm in the same boat, there is no software for the Iphone/Ipad to view it. I ended up suggesting to them to buy a new machine. I don't think any of the apps in the AppStore will work with it.
  5. Awesome, I'll check this out. Thanks!
  6. where are you located??? Los Angeles, California
  7. ethanw, How long did it take to get to you and where did you have it shipped to? I'm also interested in the DVR but I wanted to know how long it took for you to get it?
  8. Have any of you guys tried those posted open source linux software to see if they work with a range of IP cameras? I'm looking into setting up some IP cameras and want to run my nix box to do the recording. I see this posting is quite old and I know there might be a chance a newer piece of software has come out since then.

    Netpromax DVR

Thanks, I was googling their company info, found out they are close to me, about 10 mins away but I read that they went out of business a while ago. I was just hoping that one of those generic apps on the app store/marketplace would work. It seems to be a hit or miss with those apps.

    Netpromax DVR

Do you guys happen to know if there are any apps for the Iphone or Android that work with the Netpromax DVRs?
  11. Thanks, I'll check on eBay for them. I think the prices on these have went up slightly. http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_trkparms=65%253A12%257C66%253A2%257C39%253A1%257C72%253A5251&rt=nc&_nkw=balun&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_sop=15&_sc=1 Thanks, I was looking for those mini baluns especially. They are so small, compared to the ones I buy here locally. I wanted to buy some to test out.

    Used IP HD Cameras

Does anyone know where I can pickup some used IP HD cameras? I'm looking into getting into IP and just want to buy some used ones, so I can test them out for quality. I rather just go used, since it's for testing only, they are a lot more pricey than the traditional analog ones. There isn't a particular brand that I'm looking for, just a place where I can get them (possibly they are selling their demo unit, etc).

    Used IP HD Cameras

    Thanks!
  16. I bought a 16CH DVR from a local dealer here in town. The client that I installed it for wasn't satisfied with the web control of the DVR. They wanted better control on how to view the recorded footage. With the current setup, they connect to the DVR via IE (web browser) and they have to select the specific time and date to view the footage. Once they picked it, there's only a fast forward and reverse button to scan through the footage (no slider bar). On their on old DVR, there was a slider bar, which they can fast forward/reverse quite quickly between the footage. They can see the video while forwarding or reversing the bar. The old DVR was a PC based card from Geovision. I don't know the exact model but the client wanted something similar to Geovision (in terms of looking at old footage) I was wondering if anyone knew of any software that I can use to communicate with the DVR I bought? The web browser part of it isn't that great for reviewing the recorded footage and they wanted something better, using a dedicated software instead. I've attached the manual for it with my post. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks DVRHRT16.zip

    Hi

I'm glad I found this forum. This place has a wealth of people that know their stuff here and I wish to learn as much as I can from here. I've been doing a few installations but still have a lot to learn on how this business works with all the different types of cameras required for particular situations. Thanks to the admins for hosting this site!
  18. I have a Channel Vision model # DVR-8N DVR unit. I've had this unit for a few years and it's been working fine but recently I've been getting black video on some of the channels during playback. I thought it was an issue with the hard drive, so I replaced it with a brand new one but it didn't do anything. I tried to just view the individual channel to see if it was a problem with the system playing back too many channels simultaneously but that didn't help. The unit is only about 3 years old and I don't know what else could be causing the problem. The channel looks fine with it's streaming live video but only when it's playing back that I have issues with it. Does anyone know what else could be wrong with the unit? Thanks.
