If anyone can help me, I would be very grateful. I have a pretty good understanding of the DVR hardware and PC's but I really don't know much about networking. I have a Hikvision 8016HFI-S (16 channel) which is connected and functioning properly. It's currently setup with the VGA output to a LCD monitor. I want to connect it directly to a PC so that I can use the graphical interface controls instead of the remote control. I have the client software which came with the unit and the PC has a LAN port. I would like to connect the two using a LAN cable. 1) What do I need to do this or can someone direct me to the proper instructions for setting it up? The users manual seems to only discuss connecting it to an existing network. 2) Someone told me that I need to place a router between the DVR and the PC. Is this true? Is so would a hub work? Again, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

shoreviewsecurity- you should be able to connect as long as the PC's IP address is the "same" as the DVR. For example PC 192.168.1.100 DVR 192.168.1.102 [/i] The crossover cable makes a lot of sense but I'm a little confused about the IP addresses, you say they should be the "same" but in your example one ends in 100 and the other ends in 102. Again my knowledge of networking is very limited, can you explain this? Thank you for the help.

First off I'm a security system newbie, but I've done a little reading. I purchased a HIKvision 8016HFI. It's a 16 channel system which records 30fps (per channel) at 4CIF and is setup with 8TB of storage. There are 15 cameras all are 520TVL with Sony CCD's and connected with RG6 siamese cable. Cable lengths range from 50 to 400 feet. My next step in the installation is to connect a PC as an image server so I can use the DVR software and graphical interface controls. Currently the system is connected directly to an LCD monitor (I've tried two different monitors) and is recording at maximum resolution at 15fps. PROBLEM: The problem is the image quality seems to be a bit fuzzy and is not sharp and clear. This is the case on all channels. Questions: 1) Could the image quality be less than sharp because I'm using the VGA connection directly from the DVR? 2) When I get the LAN connection between the DVR and the computer up and running with the computer output connected to the monitor via a DVI connection to the monitor, should the image quality improve? Yes, the control text on the screen are fuzzy too. I forgot to mention this. I don't have access to the LCD as this time but it's a 19 inch computer monitor. I've tried two different models with the same results. Your comments about the LCD resolution have me thinking, I'm going to check that and also make sure the compression settings are correct.
