  1. I searched until I'm tired. I recall a listing that Rory provided showing us how to strip down XP to bare bones to improve performance and security. Anyone know where it's at, or have tips for me. I'm rebuilding my Windows XP Geovision PC. Thank you Mike

    Fixed iris

Thank you all for reviewing. I will swap cameras around and see if there is some change.. hopefully I"ll remember to post the results here... might be several weeks. Thanks again.

    Fixed iris

I have one camera setup that picture messages to me when there is activity at that exact location. I'm experimenting with this. I will love it if I can resolve one issue - the bright sunlight during the day is setting off motion-deteciton. I've have turned down the motion sensitivity, but that did not resolve my trouble. I have a feeling if I could get a camera that does not have auto-iris, etc, that maybe I would no longer have this trouble. Advice? Thoughts? Make/model?

Trying to learn. Geovision 800/16, camera choices

One more thing... in the case of these Gadspot cameras... they say they're using Sony Super HAD sensors, but I'm thinking... it's not just the sensor, but also the optics that make a good camera. Thoughts on what makes a good camera?
  5. Is there some certification/traing that I could go through here in Florida that would get me to the level where I could install, consult, support... supplement my income? Are there a couple of books you could refer me to? Previously I was using a GV650 4-channel card, experimenting, then I upgraded. I now have a Geovision GV-800 16 channel card. I have it in a P4 Compaq 2.3GHZ machine 1.2-GB RAM, with XP Pro. Sometimes I see that my recorded video is choppier than at other times. I wonder why it's not more smooth, all the time? I do have the frame-rates set high. I did buy this card off ebay and as I've been reading this forum I'm thinking this might be come pirate-copy that doesn't perform like a real GV? Several neighbors are about to install a few systems in different locations in our community. Geo seems to be able to monitor all systems at one location. As I use the DMMultiView app on another computer, to view my cameras I notice my CPU climbs pretty high on my DVR computer whenever I connect to it remotely via DMMultview. So this makes me concerned that if I try to centrally monitor 5 different DVR computers I might run into some performance issues. Thoughts? For this project, I'd like to keep our costs down, but for all of us to have basically the same equipment, that could be monitored at each indidual location, but also at a central location... I think it would be more simple to use a dedicated DVR rather than PC based GV system that I've been experimenting with. I've been buying different cameras with different lenses, experimenting. I picked up a couple of cheap Gadspot cameras (1/3 super had 520). To me they seem great at short distances, but I'd like input from you experts. They seem very pixilated at greater distances. Thoughts on Gadspot? General thoughts on camers. I know many of these topics have been covered in this forum, but I'm having a hard time clarifying some of these issues in my minde. There are a lot of posts in this forum. There is so much information it's almost overwhelming. Lots of opinions sometimes not sure what to believe, etc. I'm trying to learn from my own experience. I'll greatly appreciate your response to the above several questions.

Geovision SMS picture text message / teach me

Thank you. I tried that with no luck. I set it up to go to gmail and I received the email with the picture - worked great. I then substituted the gmail address for the email address for my phone, the one someone would use to send me an sms-text message to my phone. Testing. I received the SMS message on my phone, but without the picture. I tested, having someone snap a photo with their phone and SMS that to me - I received that picture. I love your suggestion. It's s great and simple solution, but... while I do receive the SMS text message, there is no picture included. Thanks in advance for any additional ideas you might have. I'm still needing some help.
  9. Is it possible to setup Geovision to send me an image via SMS text when there is motion at the back door? I don't want to buy a GSM cell module. Is this possible? How? I have set it up to email images to me when motion is detected, but I want a picture-text-message. Thoughts? Thanks in advance. Mike
