I have my Geovision software running with 3 cameras that record on motion. Sometimes my cameras lose signal because I need to put new bnc adaptors on them.. but what happens is when the camera losses signal, I get a "Video Lost" message on the software and then after a little while the software will reboot the computer. I DO NOT have the watchdog cable plugged in and the software still reboots the computer, so I am not sure how it can even do this... what is the point of the watchdog cable then? does anybody know how to disable the software from rebooting the computer? Thanks

How to stop Geovision software from rebooting computer?
squale replied to squale's topic in Geovision
hmm.. when I DID have the watchdog cable connected, and the software was not running, I didn't remember the computer rebooting automatically.. is there a setting you have to enable for this to happen? while we are on the subject, do you know if the users of the version 6.11 software get a free upgrade to the 7.0 version of the software? do you need a dongle or something now with the 7.0 version? -
How to stop Geovision software from rebooting computer?

okay so with just the software, it will restart the program 4 times, then it will reboot the computer? then restart the software 4 more times, then reboot the computer again? and keep doing this as long as the video lost signal is still there? now with the hardware watchdog, how can it reboot the computer if the software is shut down? what command can the software give to it to tell it to reboot.. I don't get this if the software isn't actively running? -

can you disable the software watchdog? I have the hardware watchdog disabled because the cable isn't connected.... by the way, what is the hardware reset used for if it already has a software reset? I also notice that it will restart the software a couple times first and then it will finally reboot the system, why does it do this first? -
I have noticed that when I have the GV Main app open I get this weird humming/buzing out of my speakers, but then when I close the app, it goes away. I am running version 6.11 of the Geovision software... anybody have these issues? is there something I can do to correct this? Thanks

I have 2 cameras that monitor pretty much the same area, when I get motion in the area, I only hear 1 of the audio alerts for one of the cameras and I usually only get sent 1 email for one of the cameras. It's like only 1 camera will trigger the alerts but both cameras usually record at the same time... anybody know why this is? the other thing I noticed is that I have the system set to start recording 6 seconds before motion is detected, but it doesn't seem that it has been doing that. Instead, my videos are starting to record when the motion is already happening, like if a car drives by, I don't see before the car gets there, I see as the car is already there, this is when the video starts recording... anybody know about this one? Thanks besides this I find the GV system and software pretty good!

How to view the cameras while installing them?

Since I will be up on a ladder outside my house installing cameras, how do I see them without running back and forth from outside to inside to see my computer monitor... -
Tip for power splice for bullets & domes

I got those same european terminal strips as you, I had to fold the 22 AWG wire (from the power adapter) like 3 times to get it thick enough that those little screws in the terminal connector held onto the wire tightly.. -
I have my GV800-8 system installed with 2 cameras connected to it and I am getting no video through the software, all I am getting is a "Video Lost" signal for each camera... does anybody know why this could be? is there some option you must check for this to work?

I got these bnc connectors: http://www.spytown.com/unbncmaco.html and am wondering how I connect these the proper way to the bare leads on the siamese.. like how much cable do I strip, where do I crimp the connector, etc? I have these crimpers: http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&product%5Fid=278-242 -
well to report back, I got a multimeter tonight and I tested that cable. 2 out of 3 of the cables put out 11.94 volts at the end of the 150ft run. I am also getting 11.94 volts straight out of the power supply, so I guess those 2 cables are fine. The 3rd cable well I am getitng NO VOLT reading at all out of the end, so I guess that cable is bad or something... anyhow, I got the good stuff delivered today, Siamese RG59/U 18/2 cable made by Coleman. Now I just have to cut up the lengths and put the ends on. So is it normal for the power supply to be putting out just under 12 volts, at like 11.94 volts which is what I am getting?

This will make a plug connection for the camera end of power, but then you still have to hardwire your power supply to the siamese cable... there will be no plug on this end.. -
BNC Male 3-piece versus 2-piece crimp on?
squale posted a topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I see the sell these crimp on male BNC connectors in either 2-piece or 3-piece configurations... 2-piece - http://www.spytown.com/bnc2pieccrim.html 3-piece - http://www.spytown.com/3piecbnccrim.html couple questions.. 1.) is there any thing online that gives your pictures with directions on how to attach these to your siamese cable? I am not familiar with multiple pieces for one crimp on connector. The only ones I ever crimped were regular cable tv F connectors.. 2.) Do you use a regular RG59 crimper? because the part where you crimp looks really thin... Thanks -
How to view the cameras while installing them?
squale replied to squale's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I still have to figure out how to hook my power lead up first... I got the transformer for the camera with me and and it's 22 awg wire coming out of it, and my Siamese cable has 18 AWG power wire... I just don't know how I am going to connect the cylinder power plug on the trasformer/camera to the bare leads on the siamese cable -

I was thinking of maybe using my laptop with remote desktop software into my GV system... just have to figure out how to hold the laptop while on the ladder, lol -
so are you saying, the voltage can drop at the end of the line? by how much ? is this power supply that came with these camera regulated by the way? or it is putting out the full 500mA all the time to each camera
-
I will have to get a meter, but even if I am getting 12 volts what amp rating do I need to be getting? my transformer for the camera is a 500mA rating.. what is an acceptable voltage drop? like if I am only getting 11.5 volts on the end of the extension cable is that still enough for the camera to work?
-
I am convinced it's the power side of the cable, I have tried each cable with each camera, and get the same issue, but when I plug the camera directly into the power connector it came with, I have no problems at all
-
what is this all about, it looks like Plenum cable is the more expensive, but it looks the same as Non-Plenum? Thanks
-
yes I am getting new cable, what is the best connectors to get, screw on BNC's or crimp on ones? and how do I connect the power for the camera? what tools do I need and can you point me to a link of where I can get all of this? Thanks
-
yes the video side of the cable is fine, it's definately the power side, and I the camera came with a 500mA transformer so I don't think that's the problem, it's just that cable.. this is the cable I am using... http://www.spytown.com/25footpremsi.html What cable would you guys suggest? I will need about 150ft for each of my 3 cameras... Thanks
-
I think it is a problem with my power side of the 150foot cable. When I plug my camera directly into the transformer without using the extension cable I have fine video, no cut outs, etc... but when I use the power connection on the extension cable, then I usually have no video or if I do get video it cuts in and out.. I took a bunch of pics of the cable on the camera, extension cable, geovision connectors, etc... let me know if you think the extension cable is too thin and junky. Also let me know if you think the Power supply that came with the camera is too small, I know the cameras specs say it uses 130mA of power.. http://www.JKEVIN.com/CCTV_Wiring/GeoVision.zip

this guy I know will sell me this card for $75. It's brand new. Is it worth it? or can I do better someplace else on price? another question, I read in these forums that this card has this technology where if I only have 1 camera plugged into it, that camera will get the FULL 20fps and then say I have 2 cameras plugged in.. each camera will get 10fps, etc. So basically it doesn't let the unused fps go to waste if you have less than 4 cams plugged in. Is this true? is this the only card that does this.. Geovision? What is this called?
-
Just wondering, how the FPS work on these Geovisions cards. I know the GV800-8 has 120fps total abilities. Now let's say I only had 2 camers hooked up to this card. Do each of the 2 cameras get 60fps? (120fps/2 cameras) or does the 120fps get split 8 ways ALL THE TIME no matter how many cameras you have hooked up? so for instance, again I have 2 cameras hooked up but now each camera only gets 15fps (120fps/8) ?? Just trying to figure out how this works on these cards because right now I will only have a couple cameras hooked up to this card. I will add in the future as I get more money, lol and when the time comes that I have 8 cameras, is 15fps per camera enough to really see full motion video? or is it all jaggy and really hard to make out full motion at 15fps? I'm just trying to get a feel for what fps people normall record at for full motion prosecutable video? Thanks

Just wondering how long you can run the video/power cable for each camera without degrading the video picture and/or performance of the camera. I need to run about 200ft of cable to each camera, is this a problem?
