  1. Okay I just got my Geovision GV800-8 card and I will shortly be getting my cameras. My question is, I know I will only be able to view the cameras on my computer which the Geovision card is installed. And I will also be able to view them remotely over the internet by running the Geovision server on that same computer.. but my issue is, I want to be able to also view these cameras from the tv's in my home. These tv's do not have computers connected to them, so somehow I would like to wirelessly transmit the Geovision connected camera video to my regular TV's so if I am sitting on the couch, I can hit an input button on my tv's remote and instantly see my live cameras around my house and outside. Would be nice to be able to watch tv, hear the doorbell ring, hit the tv input button and see who is standing outside your door via your outside mounted camera connected to your Geovision card.. is this a possibility?
  2. Just wondering, would it be cheaper and better coverage to just mount one pan/tilt/zoom camera on the roof of your house instead of mounting 4 seperate bullet cameras under the roof overhang on each corner of your house? I don't know if having something mounted on your roof up there could cause a problem with ice build up in the winter or could always get snow covering the lens, etc... I am about to install my 3 bullet cameras this weekend attached to my roof soffits on 3 corners of the house, but was wondering if I should save those cameras for inside and maybe go with a single pan/tilt/zoom mounted on my roof to monitor all sides of my property from a birds eye perspective? I have a ridge vent on my roof so I could just easily stick the siamese cable through the opening of the ridge vent to get to a camera mounted on my roof..
  3. yeah well p/t/z is just way too much money for me so I have to forget this idea..
  4. ah cool bar, my buddy used to go there all the time... I'd be interested in seeing the live cameras too to check out their qaulity
  5. ah so actually 3 wires... power, video and control wire huh? what does a 24volt AC put out much more power than 12volt DC? Isn't your house 110volt AC through, what does it go through a converter that downgrades the volts to 24 volts only?
  6. do you need special wiring for them? like will regular RG59 Siamese 12vdc cable work with pan/tilt/zoom? or do you need different or more cable?
  7. Okay I got 150 foot siamese premade cable, but I was thinking, I have to drill a hole in my ceiling to get the cable from my office computer's Geovision card up into my attic. I don't want to create a huge hole, so I was thinking of maybe cutting off the BNC and power connector so the hole would only have to be as wide as the siamese cable itself with no connectors. But then I know you can attached the bnc connectors back on with a simple crimper tool, but how the heck do you attach the power wire back on? does anybody hae a pic of siamese cable with both the power and bnc connectors on the end, so I can get an idea of what both connectors look like and how wide they are in comparrison to the cable?
  8. it would probably cost lots for a good pan/tilt/zoom camera huh? I paid $172 for each of my color bullets

    Color and InfraRed

hey Rory, you forgot to mention the cameras taht I just got, the Provideo CVC-637ex remember how the Speco guy told you there IS in fact an IR Cut filter, it's not mechanical so it is ALWAYS there, but the camera should show accurate color images..

  11. okay so I got the RG59 Siamese cable for my 12vdc Speco bullet cameras at 150foot each cable. I should be fine with the power and video not losing any quality or anything at this length?
  12. yeah were are you located in New Jersey to do this job? what bar? I am in northern jersey, sussex county will be installing my cameras this weekend

How to view Geovision connected cameras on TV ?

no I definately want the geovision card... one of my tv's has a computer hooked up to it, so I can always remote desktop to my geo computer and bring up the videos if I have too..
  14. why do you call Geovision crap when they are by far the most popular PC DVR system? must be a reason for that... and that their prices are high and people still keep buying them..

How to view Geovision connected cameras on TV ?

okay couple issues I see... 1.) I have a hardwired keyboard and mouse on my geovision computer. How do I control the keyboard and mouse from my living room? I saw it has an IR sender for wireless keyboard and mice, but that means I would need to have a wireless keybaord and mice receiver hooked into the computer. Which then means I will have 2 keyboards and mice hooked up to one computer which I don't think Windows XP allows you to do, but I could be wrong. (I will not use ONLY a wireless keyboard and mouse with the computer and then be carrying the keyboard and mice back and forth from office to living room, this would defeat the whole purpose if I have to get up off the couch I might as well just go into the office and look at the computer screen to see the outside cameras). 2.) This device just tranmits whatever is currently on the desktop of the computer? so if I have the Geovision softrware minimized and say I have internet explorer or microsoft word open on the computer, I will now have to close out of these applications and open up the Geovision software. I was looking for something more automated where you just hit an input button on the tv remote and it automatically shows JUST the geovision software with cameras screens... not the entire desktop, etc.. 3.) I think the video quality might be really crappy with this device. Obviously it will always look better on a computer monitor but when it sends it wirelessly to the tv, I think the resolution will be very very crappy... I could be wrong..
  16. you think it's better than Geovision hardware and software? and how does the prices compare to a GV800-8 channel video card compared to the same 8 channel card in this companY?
  17. is this a new software and hardware card? not like Geovision?
  18. wow, so the 14 degree F rating they say for this camera is in fact not right huh? you don' thave these cameras in a heating enclosure of any type do you?
  19. Well I searched and searched all over the net for different outside cameras to hook up to my Geovision GV800-8 system. So far, it seems that Intellicam has the best prices I can find anywhere. And their eBay auctions are even lower than their website. Anyhow, I was checking out their cameras, and I am very interested in the EX230HL Color Bullet Camera: [edit-link removed by mod] They say it's using the newest Sony SuperHAD EXview CCD and that this camera doesn't need IR lights to see in complete darkness. It's an extremely low .05 lux in color! Is this really true? I need these cameras for an installation around my house and I would like to see my entire front and back yards. My front yard and driveway are about 100ft long from my house to the road. I would like to be able to see to the end of that in DARK conditions. Do you think this camera is the best to go with? The other camera I was contemplating going with was the G4-12EXS .. [edit-link removed by mod] I see this has 12 IR LEDs but just not sure that this will see very far in dark conditions. They say it autoswitches from color to Black and White at night but I still don't know if it would be as good as the EXView EX230HL above? I believe the EX230HL stays color at night as well. What do you guys think about Intellicam and these cameras? should I go with them or look elsewhere? Thanks again!
  20. hey guys, just checked with the guy I got the brand new GV800-8 card from for $350. He said that the card doesn't come with a box because it's an OEM card and he always gets his cards OEM. But it does have the software, owners manual, breakout cable, and watchdog cable with it. I was just wondering, is the OEM version of this card the SAME EXACT card as the retail version that comes in the nice Geovision cardboard boxes? I actually didn't know that Geovision sold these GV cards OEM, I thought they were all ONLY retail....? BTW.. -> I think this guy might have another GV800-8 card for sale, I am checking into it if anybody is interested..
  21. Just wondering if Geovision cards are by far the BEST and most POPULAR PC DVR cards available? I just brought a brand new Geovision DV800-8 card for $350, is this a good deal? it is the one that has the breakout cable on it... I was toying with going with a standalone DVR system but I see the standalone systems don't have nearly the same amount of features provided in the PC DVR Geovisions systems... I hope I made the right choice!
  22. www.froogle.com is what I always use to find the cheapest deals

Is a Geovision GV800-8 enough to run 8 cameras?

you think so huh? the bear ran through my neighbors garage door last year to get at his garbage. Cost him hundres to fix... I'll keep it at the curb
  24. hey herminshs since you are in NY (my neck of the woods), I'm in New Jersey, you know how damn cold it is right now, like -2 degrees F last night without the wind chill. I was wondering how these cameras hold up in this extreme cold weather and during snow/ice storms? They say the operating temps go only down to like 14-20 degrees F but you know how much colder it gets here than that. So do you know how these will work being on 24/7 in these harsh low temps?
