still very nice though I am sure, except when there are hurricanes..
  2. so the second pic is probably what the 637EX will look like in almost pitch black conditions?

must be paradise down by you... lucky son of a ##%#$%^$ It's friggen 10 degrees F out right now here in jersey
  4. hmm.. didn't see anything in that link that said that camera has an IR cut filter? I thought you said thought that an ONLY color camera looks very crappy at night.. Isn't this camera just an all color camera all the time, meaning it DOESN'T switch to black and white at night, it just stays color? I would really like to see what this camera looks like in some pics at both day and night if anybody has them.. Can you adjust the lens sizes on this small bullet camera? And does it come with power/video cable? if not could you recommend some video/power cable, I will need about 100 to 150' for each camera... thanks

oh yeah, I get bears just about EVERYDAY except the cold winter like now because they are hibernating my neighbor had a black bear run THROUGH his garage door last year to get at garbage, the cops had to shot the bear with rubber bullets to scare him off
  6. Does this camera you mention have an IR cut filter: [edit-link removed by mod] This looks like a nice little camera, do you think it's better than the EX230HC here: [edit-link removed by mod] Do you know how low of temperatures I can use this Speco CVC-637EX in? Is Speco the same thing as ProVideo by the way? Have you installed and used these cameras.... do you have any low light images from them? The other cameras are just too much money. I can't spend over $200 on a camera... just don't have the money right now

or I can line underground around my garbage cans with mortars. Then upon motion, make my little Mine field go crazy... but the only downside to this is I have to hope that the bears get there first before me or the garbage men.. lol
  8. so how do you know those Intellicam cameras don't have ir cut filters?
  9. what is No IR Cut Filter ? Because the Intellicam cameras shut off the IR leds during the day and then at night the IR leds come back on.. is this what you mean..? I just don't know if it's better to go with a Day/Night cam or just a always color camera? I DEFINATELY need color for the day, it's just a matter of what to do at night. I mean my house always has some ambient lighting at night from neighbors that leave their outside floodlights on. It's not BRIGHT ambient light, but it's some light ya know.
  10. yeah but isn't color cameras much better for the day... ? should I maybe go with something like this: the G4-12EXS here: http://www.intellicamusa.com/daynight.htm This camera says it's color at day and BW at night with IR assist. Do you think this is a good camera? or do you think the first bullet I linked to above is better? This G4-12EXS DOES NOT have the EXview CCD..

now I like the shotgun idea.. lol yes I already have a security system, it's a Brinks security system installed in the house with motion detectors in the house
  12. lol... I Hope I don't need one of these heated units. that would suck
  13. yeah since it's for around the house I think the Geovision should do just fine, right now I have a ****ty webcam sitting in my window, so it doesn't get much worse than that.. lol and if I decide not to go the Geovision route, well I got a brand new GV-800-8 for $350 so I think I could definately get my money back ya know..

yeah at first I was thinking X10, but their stuff looks sorta cheap and they really didn't have anything that I could use. Turning lights on and off in my house with a remote is really of no great need for me at the moment. And the X-10 video cameras look like a joke, the images SUCK!!!! Anyhow, yeah I will definately upload bear picks when I get a setup. Right now they are hibernating but in the spring we get them like everyday, full daylight, dark outside, it doesn't matter. The one other thing I wanted a camera on the front of my house for was so I can see who is at the front door. What can I say, I am a gadget freak!
  15. Thanks Roy, great pics, yeah I don't need any professional level camera I don't think, it's just for around the house to see the animals at night and for any vandels in the neighborhood. During the day I just want to mainly see what's going on around my house outside and also see what sort of weather I have going on up there. I have a long commute to work so it would be nice to see what the weather is at my house. The other thing I was wondering is, I live in New Jersey and it's very very cold here right now at my house, for instance tonight it's supposed to be like 1 degree Farenheight.... do these cameras still work in this type of cold weather WITHOUT a heated camera housing? For instance that bullet color camera I linked to above from Intellicam systems, do you think that will work? Thanks

I am mainly trying to just watch for any vandals around my house and for the night (which is why I want a good night vision camera) I want to see the bears eating my garbage and the deer, other animals, etc around my house. I live in a very wooded area and animals are always destroying my garbage, so I wanted to find a way to observe them at night and think of a plan of house to deter them away from my garbage.. I was maybe thinking something along the lines of, have a camera on my garbage cans, upon motion of say an animal, I sound some type of loud siren outside to scar them away or something.. what do you think? lol, I would probably upset the neighbors with a siren.. if only they could make it so the water hose would turn on and soak the animals upon motion detections that would work, but then if I forget to turn my motion detection off, the garbage men are going to get wet, lol
  17. I got from a guy on ebay. He brought the card for a client then the client wanted a 16 channel so he sold the card to me. Anyhow, about the standalone dvr versus a pc dvr, the main purpose of me doing this is so that I can record on motion detection and to view LIVE video from my cameras over the internet while I am at work. I also would like the ability to be emailed or paged to my phone when motion is detected and the camera starts recording. Do standalone systems offer these features, or you have to use a pc dvr system? how does Geovision do with these features?

    GeoVision Hydrid DVR Cards

When you are watching just live video through your cameras hooked into you Geovision card, this is NOT being recorded, so is this live video coming through UNcompressed AND in the full 30fps? So when they are talking about the card having 120fps, is that ONLY for the recording end of things? or is that for the live viewing end as well?

    GeoVision Hydrid DVR Cards

Okay, because you can pretty much get a 4 channel standalone DVR for not much more than the card, so I didn't understand why the card alone was that much money. I guess the card and software has many more features than the standalone systems do?
  20. yeah well that's what I REALLY need. I need to view the front and back yards around the house. It would be NICE to be able to see to the end of the driveway but that isn't a MUST! Basically I am just trying to see the end of the driveway to see IF somebody or something is there, not to really make a prosecutable image. But around the house I would like a prosecutable image yes. What is the deal with this Sony EXview CCD? It says it's .05 lux in color.. that's pretty low, so that should be able to see a pretty long distance by itself without IR assist at night right? and how many lines of resolution do I need? I see the cameras pretty much come in 380 or 420 lines. Black and White generally is the higher 420 lines which I don't know why?

Is a Geovision GV800-8 enough to run 8 cameras?

wow only 5-7.5fps is commerically acceptable? I thought commerical uses were definately recording in full motion video (30fps) ? so really my GV800-8 is a pretty powerful card then huh? see what I was afraid of was that the GV800-8 was going to have a set 15fps per channel. So the card can do 8 video channels, thus it would put out 15fps to each channel LOCKED (15fpsx8=120fps). I didn't know the card would use ALL of it's 120fps resources on only like 2 or 4 cameras... so I guess this is good news!

Is a Geovision GV800-8 enough to run 8 cameras?

I am NTSC... so recording around the clock for instance, what if I have 4 cameras installed.. will I get 30fps per camera? how about if I have 6 cameras installed, will I get 20fps per camera? what is the recommend NTSC FPS setting for Prosecutable full motion? do you need 30fps or is a bit less just as good? Thanks

    GeoVision Hydrid DVR Cards

yeah figured it was the software, but there are still chips on the card, what are these chips for? I thought these chips are the ones that actually retrieve the video and compress them?
  24. yeah from what I can tell from those pics, it looks like a real card, you can sorta make out some of the text on the chips..
