than why are these geovision cards so expensive, what are they doing hardware wise that justifies their price? I thought standalone DRV's compress video... so for instance take a look at this: DVMR/4 Economy from Intellicam here: http://www.intellicamusa.com/dvr-series.htm You can get a 80gb model for $400 which is less than a Geovision card, and this DVR does do compression. So I just dont' get why the Geovision cards are so much, maybe I am missing something..

Are Geovision cards by far the most popular DVR cards?
squale replied to squale's topic in Geovision
yes it's a real card, we verified all of this, he is sending it to me today, it comes with the software cd (version 6.1) it's the new hardware version of the card V3 or whatever it's called, it comes with the breakout dongle, the user's manual and the Watchdog cable. Is this Geovision card a really good card and the best DVR PC card you can buy? Still wondering if going standalone dvr would of been better? here are pics of the card by the way: http://www.cybassist.com/jkevin/geovision/gv800-8_pic1.jpg http://www.cybassist.com/jkevin/geovision/gv800-8_pic2.jpg you tell me if it is a fake? -
what I don't understand is aren't the regular GV cards like the GV800 already doing compression on the board itself? I figured this is why the cards are so expensive because they are doing the video compression right on the card thus freeing up your cpu usage?

I live in New Jersey and wanted to mount a camera to the telephone pole outside my house so the camera faces the front of my house and covers my entire front yard and driveway, etc. Does anybody know if this is LEGAL to do or not? I want to mount the camera on the pole, then I can just run the BNC and power wire right alongside the exisiting cable television coax wire (maybe zip tie them all together, etc.). This will go to the top of my house and I can just feed the wire into my house where the Coax cable wire comes in. Let me know what you think about this.. Thanks

Hey check out this response from Geovision about streaming.. " What I tried to tell you on the performance issue is that fps is decided by hardware, transmitting by Internet can't change the performance because it is fixed no matter how wide the bandwidth is (Apparently, that GeoVision dealer is misunderstood). Let me use a simple example. If you buy 1 set of GV-600(4cam) from us, no matter how fast FedEx can deliver to you, it won't become 2 sets or more (if FedEx does everything well). Therefore, please check answers below: 1. "So if I had a GV-600 with 4 cameras attached, I COULD still stream at the full 30FPS per camera as long as my bandwidth could handle it" The answer is no.The truth is if you had a GV-600 with 4 cameras attached, you could stream at 7.5fps per camera in the best expectation. 2. "when viewing the video remotely through the internet, I could view it AS FAST as my bandwidth could handle regardless of the chipset on the geovision card" The answer is no. It is when viewing the video remotely through Internet, the fps you can view is decided by chipset first and then the bandwidth. " So I guess your streaming IS limited to the FPS that the card can do? -

I these are them... http://www.winnov.com/products/capture/index.htm#surveillance What do you think? I was told that Geovision's specs are for INTERLACED FPS... and NOT PROGRESSIVE. I heard that INTERLACED counts the EVEN and ODD frames as 2 frames. And that PROGRESSIVE counts EVEN and ODD as 1 frame. So therefore PROGRESSIVE is much faster.. anybody know about this? -
Okay well this is really what I want the software to be able to do. I have programs like WebCamXP, etc. that use ****ty old Logitech USB webcams or whatever to do motion detection, stream live video, etc... but now I want to go with professional CCTV, and need to know if the softare can do this.. especially Geovision's cause that's probably who's card I am going to go with. 1.) Motion Detection where I can specify certain parts of the image to only respond to motion. Reason why is because I am going to mount the camera infront of my house, but it will pick up some of the road I live on. I don't want the motion detection to trigger on everytime a car passes by.. so I want to somehow mask the road so the road doesn't trigger motion detection. Now IF you can do this masking of certain parts of the image, is it only a square that you can draw for a specified area, or can you pretty much use like a pen tool and trace around the area you DON'T want the motion detection to look at? 2.) Now, one of the main reasons I am getting this outdoor setup is because I have a real problem with animals (like bear, birds, racoons, etc.) eating my garbage. Right now it is so cold outside that they aren't coming around, but when we hit April, they will be tearing apart my garbage again. So I where I am mounting the camera will be able to see where the garbage is that I put outside at night. Since I am getting a camera that will see in the dark, I will be able to set up motion detection around my garbage cans. Now what I want to do is when motion is detected, I want to somehow trigger an external program or command to run on my pc. Such as, I have X10 home automation stuff, and I want to plug a spotlight into one of my x10 outlets, but I want this spot light to turn on when the motion detection is triggered through the Geovision software. This spotlight will show on the garbage and hopefully scare the animals away. I know that with the X10 software you can go to the Start.. Run window in Windows 2000/XP and type a command like: x10_program.exe /turnon /light /#5 and this will turn on the spotlight. But what I need is for the Geovision software to actually execute this command in windows or be able to actually open up a third party piece of software to do this. I know the software can already email you on motion detection, but I need that to go further and be able to execute programs, etc. 3.) The other feature that would be nice and it sorta goes with the above motion detection is, when motion detection is detected, can it send a picture of small video to your cell phone. I am going to buy one of those new Verizon Wireless camera phones and I was wondering if there is a way for you to view your live video or recorded video on these phones. Or if not video, just at least some still shots when motion is detected. But in order to do this the software would have to be able to send the image to a cell phone or something. Let me know if the Geovision or any other GOOD software that you know of can do these things. Thanks

The streaming live video is "sort of UNdigitized"??? how can that be... it has to be completely digital if it is going through a computer and ESPECIALLY over the internet.. -

Hey check this out, this might be interesting to you... a Geovision rep told me this.... "In order to record you have to reduce the image to a tolerable level. Otherwise your 120GB hard drive would be eaten up in 2 hours of recording. This is done by compression of the data. The card has processors that can handle a certain amount of data each. A GV-600 has one chip at 30FPS and a GV800 has 4 chips to make 120fps. Once compressed they are available for recording and sent to your monitor for viewing of what you compressed. Webcam does not require the compression because your not recording so it by-passes the compression part of the chain and is sent to your internet connection. Your FPS on the net are only limited by speed and bandwith." -
well that would be something the town would need to get permission to do them.. not the individual

what is the highest resolution a computer can display with a Geovision card? cause if I am correct, computers don't go by TV Horizontal Lines, I believe computer screens are generated to use a matrix of horizontal and vertical lines thus they go by Pixels to determine their resolution. There fore, how do you convert TV Lines to resolution or draw a comparrison between the two?

new Geovision GV-250 card for $75 ... is that a good deal??
squale replied to squale's topic in Geovision
yeah somebody I know in the business was telling me that the computer systems using DVR cards are becoming less and less popular and standalone systems are really much more popular and will become even more and more popular with time. Hey by the way check out this BlueNet thing, click on the Underwater camera... I was pulling 18-25 FPS NTSC off of this just before. That's pretty good... http://www.intellicamspy.com/remote_demo_page.htm I would LOVE to see a BlueNet device like this that supported 4 cameras each at 30 FPS NTSC... look for it at the show in March... -

is it possible for you to stream ONLY 1 camera and give me the link to it. I will tell you what FPS speed I am seeing it at. Of course you need to have the version 6.0 of the software and I need to view the camera through the Multi-View mode cause that's the only mode that shows me the FPS speed. And by the way, since you are in Australia and you go by PAL, when I see FPS speeds on YOUR Geovision server, is that number in PAL or NTSC?? -
Can somebody give me a rock bottom price on Geovision GV-250
squale replied to squale's topic in Geovision
yeah you have a good point, it might happen.. hey they might come out with something like the BlueNet which I think is a great idea IF IT HAD MORE INPUTS. But that using a proprietary hardware compression. -
What's the absolute LOWEST price somebody here can give me on a Geovision GV-250 card? including shipping to zip code: 07438 in the US Is this a good card to go with by the way for like a 3 cam setup?

new Geovision GV-250 card for $75 ... is that a good deal??
squale replied to squale's topic in Geovision
yeah well as a software engineer by professional I can understnad the software thing and respect it. It is just something else how they charge so much more for the higher end cards when they use the same software. It's like the hardware differences between the 250 and the 800 CAN'T possibly cost that much. -

is 125 Kilo-BITS per second upload really enough for you running 8 cameras at the same time and streaming them all over the net at once using the Mulitview option in the Geo software? damn, I am only going to have 1 camera to start out with, and my upload speed is WAY FASTER than that.. I get about 900 Kilo-BITS per second on average upload. You think I could push the FULL 30 FPS through the web? and if so, with how many cameras on at once? -
yup the denied me to do so.. guess I'll just have to put it on my house or something

Can somebody give me a rock bottom price on Geovision GV-250

new Geovision GV-250 card for $75 ... is that a good deal??
squale replied to squale's topic in Geovision
why you aren't happy dealing Geovision software? What sucks is the fact that a 250 card can cost like $200 but then an 800 card can cost like $500. But they both use the same software. And the two cards probably cost just about the same cheap price to make. So it sucks that with the higher FPS cards you are getting ripped off.. -

okay so saying I can only stream at about 14 FPS as well (although I should be able to go much higher cause my upload speed is MUCH MUCH faster than yours), but let's just say I could only stream at about 14 FPS NTSC, then is it even worth buying the 800 card cause I wouldn't be able to use the full 30 FPS NTSC?
