    Magic Radar DVR Card

Hey guys I did some testing on my upload and download speeds. This is what I am getting. I ran my FTP server at home on my cable connection. I downloaded from another location a huge 600 meg file from my ftp server. I average about: 100 Kilo-BYTES per second (800 Kilo-BITS). Now the MAXIMUM allowed upload speed from my ISP is 1 Mega-BIT per second (1000 Kilo-BITS or 125 Kilo-BYTES). So I would say that I am getting a pretty good upload speed. I am getting about 80% of my MAXIMUM allowed upload speed. Not bad. Now on download speeds, I am getting about 3423 Kilo-BITS per second or: 427 Kilo-BYTES per second. My MAXIMUM allowed is 10 Mega-BITS per second. So I am only getting about 34.23% of my maximum download speed. Here are some online tests I took.. check them out.. http://216.254.95.40/tweak/block:3a45c33?service=cable&speed=1000&os=winXP&via=normal and another test: http://www.broadbandreports.com/speedtests/3423914;839278;0305a8b63db1d8355bcce6c681deab46;2.0;www.broadbandreports.com/1077571379 Now given all the above info, what would you guys think I could stream 1 video at over the internet? and how about streaming 4 videos at once over the internet? You think I can stream close to 30 FPS.. maybe I should go with the 800 card after-all? Cause looking at what you have there DVR, you are only doing 256 Kilo-BITS upload, so I have close to 4x your upload speed.

so with you getting 400 Kilo-BITS per second upstream.. about how many FPS NTSC can you see remotely? and how many cameras are we talking at the same time? to the best of my knowledge if you are only viewing 1 camera at a time remotely, that 1 camera will have a higher FPS speed than the rest right?

yeah they are talking Kilo-BITS. if you are talking BITS, then my upstream speed is: 1000 Kilo-BITS per second. You divide that number by 8 to get the Kilo-BYTES. So that gives me 125 Kilo-BYTES.. you see?

okay well I am talking Kilo-BYTES not bits, so when I say I get 128 Kilo-BYTES upstream, that is 8 times faster than your 128 Kilo-BITS. Cause there are 8 bits in 1 Byte. see you confused me because you said you got 128KB which is Kilo-BYTES. Usually 128 Kb means Kilo-BITS. Hence the uppercase B = Bytes and the lowercase b = Bits

are you talking 128 Kilo-BYTES or 128 Kilo-BITS per second?

I'll tell you, that is a pretty good up speed for cable.. I just called my cable provider for internet and they said at most we get: 1250 Kilo-BYTES per second download 125 Kilo-BYTES per second upload But really the fasted download I have ever gotten has been around 700 Kilo-BYTES per second And usually my upload is like 115 Kilo-BYTES per second. So do you think my upload speed is enough to do this live video?

    ICQ

Are you guys basically online all day? If so, lets get some IM set up.. this way it's quicker to chat.
  8. you know what is probably funny, what do you think these cards actually cost to make? I bet you whether you buy a GV-600 or that $40 card off of ebay using the Pico2000 software, that the quality and the speed of the cards are the same. They seem to all be made over there is Taiwan anyhow.. they probably all use the same chips, etc... and just one is more expenisve that the other cause of software and the name brand.

    630 Tv Line cameras

what's the point in getting such a high resolution.. I don't even think computer monitors can handle this can they?

Can I mount a camera on a telephone pole?

a customer never requested this? I would imagine that for installers telephone poles would always make a great place to put a camera facing the front of a house... wonder why more people don't ask about it

    ICQ

I'm up for that.. is ICQ the only chat program you guys use? how about MSN, Yahoo, or AIM? or get Trillian and you can use them all at the same time
  12. is there anyway to download the Geovision software and try it out WITHOUT A CARD installed? just to see how the software looks, works, options, etc? I only see the 6.0 update on their site and don't know if that is the FULL program or just an update?
  13. yeah see I don't have any relays, etc... and don't want to do down that path.. I want to somehow trigger events through my X10 software... and I'm wondering how I can do this.. Am I correct by saying that you can't modify the web interface or built your own web interface off of the Geo software?' can you give me a list of things you can do with motion is detected through the software? like what things can the software do.. WITHOUT using outboard relays, etc?

yeah I really don't know what this 878 chip terminolgy is.... is there like only 1 chip that is used in ALL DVR capture cards? and what DVR cards on onchip compression? they are probably lots of money huh?
  15. lol, you guys are nuts.... hahha anyhow, you saying that if you got the GV-1000 card and hooked up 16 cameras that you can only get 30 FPS NTSC and each camera CAN'T be bigger than 320x240? why is that? the GV-800 and GV-600 both go up to 640x480 at 30 FPS NTSC so I would definately think the higher priced GV-1000 would do this too..
  16. I don't know what an 845 is.. is this another hardware piece I would have to get? I don't want to have to buy any more hardware, etc., instead just want the Geovision software to run that command..
  17. well If I got the GV-800 card I would NOT have a need for this then right cause I would be seeing 30 FPS per camera anyhow right? this is talking about 4 cameras connected at once..
  18. okay so on motion would the Geo software be able to run this command from the "Start... Run..." box in windows XP.. x10software.exe /turnonlight /1
  19. Do you think the above is a good deal? Do ALL the GV-800's come with the audio card for the 4 port audio when you buy the card from anybody in the retail box?
  20. well what would be a GOOD price on that card?
  21. well lights just may not do it, I may set up some sort of small speaker outside to make a noise when the animals are there... sometimes lights don't scare bears off. So if I can trigger a sound, or trigger an event through my x10 system that would be great. Basically what I need to know is if when motion is detected, can the Geovision software invoke a command that can start or stop an x10 device?
  22. do you know why I would even need the: GV-DSP Support card? what does this card do for you?
  23. Well here the cheapest I can find the 600 card for brand new... $225 http://www.turbocctv.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=TC&Category_Code=VCC What do you think? do you know if this card comes with the optional audio card as well?
