???? Well, like I said in this thread or another, no webserver on the Avermedia and price differences are significant. But agreed with RORY depends on your clientel. Avermedia is very stable and very straight forward, just featureless. If your looking for just good recording with not all the bells and whistles and a DVR that will be very stable go with the Aver. If your looking for a DVR that will be customizable, upgradeble, and full of features go with the GEO. Or use the Avermedia DVR Cards very comperable to GEO.

Well, your not comparing similar machines. PC based to Stand Alone

Came across a board lens and it was described the following way: FS-MTV04318IR MTV Lens with IR Sensor Function Brand Name: Foresight Country of Origin: China (mainland) Key Specifications/Special Features: 6mm focal length, IR sensor function F1.8 Infrared wave length = 850nm MTV mount What is an IR sensor function. Just some Chinese Mumbo Jumbo or does it just mean its more sensitive to 850nm IR? And, whats a MTV mount? They looked like regular board lenses to me.

Some CD drives have no problem on there side. And to tell you the truth from my experiences I would keep the DVR on its bottom. Older hard drives always had specific requirements for mounting while most modern hard drives can be mounted in any orientation. Some modern hard drives still have mounting restrictions; the only way to be sure is to read the documentation that comes with the drive or contact the manufacturer directly and ask. Restrictions may be model specific so be sure you know the exact model number of your drive. A common misconception is that it is always safe to mount the circuit board side up, this is not the case. When in doubt, look it up. Failure to follow the mounting instructions can result in a shortened lifetime. So, depending how the HDD's sit in the DVR that would give you your answer. Just make sure the PCB isnt facing up.

That model posted above does come in 4, 8, and 16 channel. Also, available from ICR is a more entry level 4, 8, and 16 channel (Mpeg4, 7.5fps per channel, CDRW, Audio all the goodies). Pricing is great on them as well.

Anyone using Avermedia cards& software
kandcorp replied to baywatch's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Yes they really have come a long way since 4-5 years ago, even from 6 months ago. This is how we setup our systems: -Pentium 4 2.66 533FSB (NO HT, stock intel heatsink and Fan) -Intel Chipset 915 Mobo (PCI express and SATA) -512MB-1GB of DDR400 PC3200 RAM (depending on Number of Channels) -120GB Min SATA Western Digital HDD -ATI Radeon X300 PCI-Express 256MB Vid Card -Some different cases, but all have 2 fans one on side with CPU port Tube and one in rear. -Windows XP SP2 -Services and Non-essential programs removed or disabled. -No Anti-anything -Sony DVD-RW With this setup we have had phenomenal results. CPU utilization stays very low as well as system temps. If any, failures usually are hardware related, mostly HDD's. But since we switched to SATA HDD's about 2 months ago, haven't had one HDD failure. -

We are one of the number one US distributers of the Avermedia DVR cards. We sell about 60-100 systems a month all with the 3000/5000/7000 cards. You are right about the image and video, it is superb (especially in D1 720 x 480). After there recent software release(V. 5.5) the DVR is absolutely amazing if setup with the right hardware. Basically, " what cant the DVR do ". We rarely have any problems with the cards themselves. Usually a hardware issue if any. But they are very stable and very reliable. Avermedia has come a long way with their DVR cards and I think they are really headed in the right direction. Yes I'll say it right now " They Blow Geovision Away" (Uh Oh, I am going to get in trouble for that) Please visit my thread about the new features of version 5.5: http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=4075 We also carry the new 4 channel stand alone from Aver. So far, has given us very good results with no problems as of yet. PM me for more info regarding the cards and the way we set our systems up. Thanks, -
Hotel Install.. Need LONG camera wall mounts.
kandcorp replied to kandcorp's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Yea, I figured we could paint them to match the building. And already figured a brace would be key for wind. I dont know... the owner is freakin crazy and cheap. He thinks he can cover all 4 sides of the Hotel, all entrances, all 3 parking lots, the front canaopy and drive up for LPR with 4 cams Oh, and as far as cleaning, we mentioned we were not going to come out and clean his cams off every time he gets a spider web. He said "Oh no worries I will just get a long stick" -
Hotel Install.. Need LONG camera wall mounts.
kandcorp posted a topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I am in the middle of a 7 story hotel installation(16 camera DVR System) with one of my dealers. There will be 4 exterior cameras (Box type in housings). The owner is requesting a 6-8 foot wall bracket mounts to hang off all four sides of the hotel. Reason, he does not want to buy addtional cameras or a bigger DVR, so he is trying to get as much coverage as possible. The mounts will be about 20 feet up on the building, mounted into the brick. (these will not be corner mounted, just flush with the wall) Any suggestions for these mounts. We were just going to have one of the Metal workers there fab us up some mounts out of 2" x 2" hollow square steel tubes. But I need to get any recommendations from you guys if you have had similar installs. Thanks in Advance. -
Agreed ^. We probably are around the same percentage for our referrals

We use Western Digital SATA Hard Drives: Personally they run a lot cooler than standard IDE drives, i think. Ever since we made the switch to SATA from IDE we have had no problems. Also, no big bulky IDE cables blocking case airflow. If your MOBO supports them I would go SATA. Also, they look better, all black: Or you could go with there new Raptor 10,000RPM SATA Clear Cover HDD if you want to get real fancy :

which computer of mine would u use to setup a standalone dvr
kandcorp replied to joshoowa's topic in Computers/Networking
Josh, 30 FPS (frames per second) is the most you can achieve per channel. So yes 120FPS on a 4 channel card would give you the best framerate possible. Between a 7.5FPS (30fps /4cams) and a 30FPS (120FPS / 4cams) per channel system there is a difference and you can tell. At least I can. I would say its less of a difference between 15FPS and 30FPS per channel. -

which computer of mine would u use to setup a standalone dvr
kandcorp replied to joshoowa's topic in Computers/Networking
That would be my suggestion. Use the Dell with the GeForce Card. Also, use at least one of the 160GB HDD's. You are going to have to partition the drive in 2 parts(if using one HDD), one for the OS(windows) and the other partition will be for Video/Data storage from your DVR. You will be very pleased with the results of that hardware setup. Also, I would dedicate that system to DVR purposes ONLY. Strip down the OS to only necessary DVR software/drivers, you dont need all the extra services and software. It will just weigh down system resources (CPU usage, RAM usage etc.). We can guide you through the setup to get you the most efficient DVR system possible. Is the Dell system being used right now?
