Stam Multimedia CCTV Complete review
kandcorp replied to jisaac's topic in General Digital Discussion
When I began at MACE, I took that online course from Stam. It actually really helped me understand all the technical aspects of CCTV and video surveillance. I had a little technical/computer background which helped but the course really helped for someone that knew absolutely nothing about CCTV. Some of the material was kind of outdated but, that was about 3-4 years ago. Isaac, it would probably be good for your bro. Is he somewhat technically inclined? Got my Stam Online CCTV course Plaque hangin on the wall -

Riv, I will try that out tonight and kick myself if it works And Jasp, You are probably right. I think if I have $900.00 to spend on PC parts I would probably just get a new CPU and a Water Cooler. Yes, I like overclocking from time to time to see the limits of my hardware. Lets see $900.00 - http://www.frozencpu.com/ex-wat-66.html = $280.00 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819116211 =$548.00 Total: $828.00

http://www17.tomshardware.com/2006/01/09/strip_out_the_fans/ Someone should try this with a DVR. I Never knew this was possible. Download the video too...its funny when they start pouring the oil in the case. "Yes, hello Dell I would like to order one of your new Oil Filled PC's..and put it on my AMEX"

Im taking pittsburgh and carolina.

River, I bought that same exact case for a custom built PC for my borther. I am really satisfied with it. The only thing that never worked for me is the 2 tube lights going up the sides, but oh well its all for looks. Cant beat it for the price though. I only hooked up the GPU and the HDD probes. I dont mess with CPU probes as they give an uneven contact between sink and cpu. Just use the MOBO utility form manufacturer. Oh, and as long as we are talking about PC cases and stuff here is my dream: http://www.frozencpu.com/cas-193.html Havent got the nerve to spend the $900 yet
-
Really really good. CPU temps stay very low even on a full load. I was really surprised at the performance. And for $34.00 you cant beat it. The only thing I think you have to watch out for is that it is relatively tall. So if your case has a side fan in that position or is too small probably wont fit. Very Quiet too. Here is the case i bought: (for $92.00 now it is 105.00!!) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811133133 Yea, Newegg always has really good sales from time to time depending on what your looking for. Plus shippping is always super fast. I have been a satisfied newegg customer for quite some time now and have no complaints.

Yea, it seems like they removed it or sold out. Here is my original invoice: 1 x Intel Pentium 4 3.4 Prescott 800MHz FSB Socket 478 Processor Model RK80546PG0961M - OEM Item #: N82E16819116177 $283.00 No heatsink or fan came with it because I purchased one of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16835128005 Here is the cheapest I found that CPU from pricewatch.com http://www.starmicro.net/detail.aspx?ID=604

Yea, but I dont think your MOBO will handle a Pentium D. Your going to spend an arm and a leg on a Pent D and new mobo that will support it. My suggestion. (If your going to upgrade anyway) -Get a new Mobo (socket 478) Something like MSI NEO2-V(Very good board for the$) keep your CPU (or get the 3.06 for $50 then you will have Hyperthreading) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813130467 -Get a set of dual channel low latency Memory http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820144169 Then you should be set. I have the same MOBO and Memory, and I can easily have Photoshop CS2, Videos Playing, Macromedia dreamweaver, adobe all running +_more and no lag at all. Oh, I am running a 9800Pro128MB and a Pent 3.4.

I have installed Vista a couple of times on a few different Comps. First time I installed, figured out you can only have 1 Mem stick at max 512 in during installation. So about 40 minutes into installation PC froze on me.. And , it took a long time. I know this is beta but cmon. We dont need all the fancy icons and crap. I really didnt enjoy the OS at all. But, I guess we will have to wait until official release. Rory, cant you just write us an OS . "Windows Rory Edition"

Hey jasper, What is your current Hardware setup: CPU, RAM, HDD, MOBO, Vid Card, sound etc. As much info as possible. 2.53Ghz with a GB of Ram should be giving you pretty decent performance.

How To Save an Hour (Or More) On XP Installs
kandcorp replied to DataAve's topic in Computers/Networking
OK, so I timed my install from my image CD yesterday on a new system with a new 250GB HDD. Hardware specs: 2.66 P4 Intel 915 MOBO ATI x300 256MB Pci Express Vid Card 250 SATA WD HDD 1GB DDR 400 32 Minutes. From Start to Finish. !! My image CD includes: MS XP Pro SP2 and all current updates since then. MS AntiSpyware MS Office 2003 Pro Nero 7.0 ADOBE Acro Winrar All codec updates to Win Media Play Winamp (Divx Codecs) Power DVD and probably a few more things. After image was done, installed Vid Card Driver (ati catalyst) and Sound Drivers (AC97) rebooted a couple of times and thats it. DONE. Our image CD we use for our PC DVR's only takes about 20 Min start to finish on a 250GB SATA HDD. Its pretty basic..No unness. software. -

I have a customer with 10 PTZ's. They will be controlled off of our PC Based DVR. We are using a rs-485 to rs-232 convertor to utilize the com port on the back of the PC. Who has run a PTZ off a similar system, GEO-Vision, etc..... And how far has your total Loop Distance been for the communication cat-5 cable? Thank You -
Front plates are horrible. Thank god GA doesnt require them. Ruins the whole front of the car.

How To Save an Hour (Or More) On XP Installs
kandcorp replied to DataAve's topic in Computers/Networking
Not necessarily. I would uninstall your video and sound drivers off your comp, and then make the image. If your computer has different audio/video hardware then your Aunt’s, yes you may run into a problem. Those are typically the only drivers that may conflict with other systems unless of course you have any additional drivers from your motherboard (Intel drivers). To tell you the truth though. Your better off this time just doing a fresh install on your Aunts comp. Install all updates, antivirus, antispyware, ness. software, then make an image of her's. Now, you have a fresh image of a fresh system that has the basic software to your specifications. If you image your comp, your aunt may get some programs that she may not need, also all of your history.. -

Best type of crimpable BNC connector?
kandcorp replied to RichTJ99's topic in General Digital Discussion
I usually stick with crimp on, but if done properly twist on BNC's work just as well. If you already have the kit you might as well use the Crimp Style BNC's. Good company: http://www.connectorsplusinc.com/BNC%20CONNECTORS.htm -
