Hello We've been in business in NJ over 30 years doing telephone systems, cabling, intercom, and for about the last 10 years CCTV. Just found out on Friday that the State of NJ requires a Burglar Alarm license to install CCTV; this is a costly and time consuming license to obtain for something we have never nor ever will install. Wondering if anyone else was in a similar situation.... Thanks Tom

We've been asked to design/ install a small CCTV system(3 cameras each) at 2 local playgrounds to basically keep an eye on the equipment; the town police will be in charge of monitoring the systems. The police station is about 3 miles from the furthest park( no line of sight) and I was wondering if it would make sense to use long range wieless transmitters and house the DVRs at the station, or would it be better to simply house the equipment locally at ech park? As we are primarily a telephone interconnect we have no experience with wireless other then the manufacturer's info. Any advice appreciated. Thanks Tom O

couldn't agree more! Trying to see if they offer any kind of exemption similar to the TWA for low voltage cabling

Hi Tom Thanks for the reply, I understand what you're saying....we've actually been unstalling CCTV systems for over 10 years in addition to our other products. I could see their logic if this was a "life saving" device or even if the cameras were tied into the alarm system; in our case these are simply stand alone systems. To me it just looks like another move by NJ to put their hands in you pockets.. Are you located in NJ too?

Hello I think this has been asked before but don't recall seeing the answer. In New Jersey is a license required to install cctv systems? We are an interconnect company doing mainly telephone systems but also do a fair amount of cctv; I know that Fire & Burglar alarms require one but cannot get a firm answer on cctv. Thanks as Always Tom

thanks.....just curious, can this be done with Geovision? -
thanks so much, that worked! Is this a decent megapixel camera for the price compared to a 600 tvl analog camera? Tom

Looking at the Nuuo Hybrid system for a school. Original configuration would probably be for 32 cameras, 24 analog & 8 IP, what specs should we be looking at for the server? Customer will be moving from a Nuvico DV3, would apprciate any feedback regarding Nuuo. Thanks Tom

Good Morning Was looking for suggestions on comparable alternatives to the discontinued DV3 line. Nuvico has the EV (entry level) and AP (enterprise) but nothing in the middle unless you go with AP Lite. Was also considering NUUO, has anyone used the NUUO products? Look to reasonably priced and feature rich when compared to the standalones. Thanks As Always Tom

Forgot to ask....anyone hear about this unit accepting IP cameras in the "near" future? Thanks Tom

Had the same problem, load the viewer manually from their website and you should be OK. Also looking at this DVR for an upcoming project but I'm guessing their demo does not do it justice as the EV demo actually look like the same quality.

Looking for feedback on the Luxriot line of PC based DVR's; have only used standalone units in the past but one of our schools is expanding the amount of cameras and we need a unit capable of supporting up to 32 cameras and one of the IT guys on staff had good things to say about Luxriot. Also open to any suggestions on standalone units that will handle that amount of cameras. Thanks Tom

Just wanted to check in and see anyone has feedback/experieince with this unit. Looks like a lot of bang for the buck.. Thanks Tom[/b]

Good Morning Looking for direction on a solid DVR using hardware compression. Application is for a school which will have 20 cameras initially and not go over 32 in total. I've heard that the units using hardware compression provide a high quality picture, which is why I'm asking about. Open to either PC or standalone units. The main focus of our business is telecom so I know just enough to be dangerous Appreciate the help. Thanks Tom

Recently installed 4 IR cameras at a park playground, the township had trenched and installed CAT 5 cable to the camera locations. Cameras are fine in daylight but do not work at night; contacted the dealer and they say that in order for the IR to function (80 IR LEDs, 12V DC 500 ma) a minimum of 18 ga wire needs to be used. Re-running the cable would be extremely difficult so I'm looking for options, would swapping out the cameras to low lux be a solution? If so what would be a good camera to use? Camears are about 30' from the playground. Thanks as always. Tom

Thanks Rory What would be decent cost effective solution? Tom

We have a school that would like to go with a 32 channel dvr. Searching on the internet I came across a 32 channel unit, 960 fps, and lots of other bells and whistles for about $2300. Compared to what else is available this price seems way to low. The unit can be seen at edigitaleals.com, any feedback/direction appreciated. Thanks Tom

Went back and spoke with the PD and it looks like there will not be any type of broadand connection at either location, so there goes the remote monitoring.....unless we look at the wireles again. Also, what type on lightning protection should be used since the cables to the cameras will be underground, then run outside to the camera. Thanks Again Tom

Looking for input on the pros and cons of PC based system copared to standalone DVRs. My company is primarily a telecom interconnect, but since we are in a lot of schools we have become involved in CCTV installations. For the last year we've been using stand alone DVRs and a Bluenet video server which we purchase from Intellicam in Ohio. However it seems like the PC based systems offer more value. Any input and product advice appreciated. Thanks Tom
