Replacing Hard Drive Dedicated Micros D4

My primary drive failed so I installed the firmware on the slave drive and converted it to a master using the jumpers. I have a new drive on route. To allow the other drive to act as a slave is there any software needed on this drive or is it simply a case of intalling a formatted HD?
