Newbie looking for a NVR 1080P setup for my shop
mnederlanden replied to tomespo's topic in Security Cameras
Hey guys, just wanted to drop a note, since this post is about our company. My name is Matthew and I'm one of the founders at Security Camera Warehouse. First, thanks for checking out our site and talking about it here. If you have any questions or want me to demonstrate anything, you can always shoot me an email - matt@ or give us a call at 866-414-2553. My ext is 102, if you want to talk with me directly. We're a small operation - just over 10 employees, but we are growing about 10x per year, and we are about to (probably in March) expand to 7 days a week technical support. We've been growing mostly because we advertise, yes, like all young companies do, that's the fastest way to grow. I generally wait until someone brings us up and choose not to engage a ton on this site cause I don't want to be all self-promotional, but if you guys want anything demonstrated or reviewed, please let me know. I do the writing for the site. Don, if you would like to showcase some of the inaccuracies that you claim that we have stated, we would love to correct them. Maintaining a site of this size can be daunting with constantly changing information. I'm absolutely sure that we have gotten something wrong in the process. If we have stated anything that is inaccurate, please let us know. My contact info is listed above. P.S. Our reviews are located here: https://www.ekomi-us.com/review-security-camera-warehousecom.html and here: http://www.shopperapproved.com/reviews/security-camera-warehouse.com/ -

Q-See. Are these people shameless or what?
mnederlanden replied to Al Drake's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Sorry to hear about your bad experiences, Al. That's one of the big reasons we try not to carry anything by that manufacturer. From a retailers perspective, they often leave us on the hook with being unwilling to return a defective device because they hardly ever honor their warranty. That's in addition to about a 10% DOA failure rate. Matthew from SCW -
Some DVRs won't recognize USB sticks larger than 256 MBs.

Noob: small camera system for the home, need suggestions
mnederlanden replied to hubjeep's topic in System Design
If you are going to put them outside, make sure that you select weatherproof cameras. Cameras that connect through Cat5 Cable are called IP (or network) cameras and will be much more expensive (probably outside of your budget constraints, unless your Pelco friend can really hook you up). Analog CCTV cameras hook up through "TV-style" cables and, yes, will have a separate power needs, however analog cameras are much less expensive. -
I concur with the other guys in this post; your video surveillance will be severely restricted by your budget. For example, our least expensive 8 channel system is right under 900 dollars, but even then you are sacrificing a great deal to get a price point like that. Your resolution is going to be in 400 level range (top level analog cameras will have 700 or more TV lines). And if you want a "high quality image," that could mean IP cameras, which means that you could spend in the 10K price range for a top of the line IP camera system. Some notes on your question: 1. "DVR system which can be accessed from a computer via network" -- Most DVRs let you do this (even the cheapest ones). 2. "I need day and night for this project." Day and night can mean "color video during the day and night" or "black and white, infrared video at night and color in the day" 3. "High Quality," like many things in life, can mean different things to different people.

I find the opposite with my business. In this economy, it seems the only ones who are buying are big corporations, the government, and the military.

Without knowing what you are planning on doing with the cameras, it is very difficult to answer your questions. For example, lux rating (how well the camera sees in low light) is very important **if you are using it in an area that isn't well lit.** In the same way, IP rating (how weatherproof the camera is) is very important **if you are using it outdoors.** Obviously, resolution is important all the time, but most of the other stats are situationally important. It all depends upon what you are doing.

Why would you want to wire a wireless camera? Or did I miss something?
-
Although we carry some ~$50 cameras, just as CHoffman said, you cannot find a good quality camera for that price, certainly not something that is weatherproof. Our cheapest weatherproof camera is closer to the $70 range, but even then you are sacrificing a large amount of quality for the price.
