Cannot view new Lorex 16ch offsite, ports forwarded.
SecurityTech posted a topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Hello, am trying to help a friend who was tasked to do a 16ch install resolve an offsite viewing issue. Analog 16ch Lorex with 8 cams running, all viewable on site over the LAN, DVR set to static with it's IP, (3) ports for DVR forwarded to that IP in router. Have tried hitting the direct outside IP with port 80, and 9000 with no connect. My friend setup the free LorexDDNS account, and tried that as well, no connect. No firewalls on the site, simple Cable modem, router, and DVR. Have tried IE, and Lorex Client with no luck. Final step was to verify the outside IP was correct and still no luck. -

Intellipix G4HDE files in .dav format, issues converting.
SecurityTech posted a topic in Digital Video Recorders
I have a Intellipix G4-HD-E DVR which saves the video files in a .dav format. I have some footage that I need to forward to authorities. I have been unable to find any video format converter which will convert the native .dav format to .avi, .mpg, etc. There IS a "player" provided by the manufacturer here which is a simple, no frills player, but it does have a convert to .avi option. After using this, I have a pink band at the bottom of the video and cannot determine why. The player successfully converts from .dav to .avi and I have tried converting to other formats, with no change. I have a test video sample which shows the pink band . Even in this test video from a friends house, is it clear. My codecs are up to date. I currently am using AnyVideoConverter, and Divx plus. Any thoughts ? In closing, Mike from Shore View Security who is a member here, was accurate about the G4 DVR, very good unit. -

This post/reply is long overdue and I wanted to give thanks to Mike aka. ShoreViewSecurity for all of his help, and giving me exactly what my project required. I had originally purchased (low priced) a Lorex 4 channel DVR and 4 Lorex (believe it or not, they have a IR cut filter) day/night cameras. Was very displeased by the images, false motion triggers due to ambient noise at night, and a very limited (yes it was a cheap one) DVR. Spent quite a bit of time talking with Mike, who was more than happy to help out. Although I had originally looked at the G4 DVR from a different seller, Mike was still willing to help out regardless of where I purchased from, and that says a lot about him, and his integrity. I decided to purchase a G4 DVR and try out some Sony day/night cameras. To further the positive experience with Mike, when I placed my order the DVR I had selected was out of stock (hard to keep hot sellers on the shelves) he offered to upgrade me at no cost. I am extremely satisfied with the G4 DVR, and the picture is indeed incredible. The HDMI output is VERY useful as Mike stated when veiwing on a HD screen. All of the features of the DVR met or exceeded what Mike stated. With that said, I highly recommend dealing with him, and will indeed being not only sending business his way, but doing business with him again. Thanks Mike for taking the time to chat back and forth, and really take an interest in the limitations with my prevoius setup, and dialing in a solid solution which has not left me with a compromise, but one that serves my needs perfectly. -

Converting .mov to .wmv using AVC dropping time/date stamp.
SecurityTech posted a topic in General Digital Discussion
I have an important clip recorded on my old DVR which only allowed backups via the .mov format. I saw more than one recommendation here for Any Video Converter which I have used to convert from .mov to .wmv. I have tried about every possible setup, output settings, etc, and the time/date get wiped during the conversion. Anyone else have this happen ? Any fixes ?? -

Mounting camera under soffit using 2x4 best method?
SecurityTech replied to blake's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Typically they are used to allow for and create positive, upward air flow from a lower location (as in relation to the roof), to the top of the roof. This allows hotter (and humid) air to exit the roof through a ridge vent. People often times DEFEAT this simple (hot air rises) system by insulating their attack joists, running the insulation all the way out to the soffit. This of course defeats the purpose, and no longer allows hot air to circulate and leave via the ridge vent. It helps keep your attic, roof, and shingles cooler in most cases. Had quite a few pics of this, but I cannot post pics or links. -

Mike, sent you a PM with some questions. -
Hello, have recently started posting here after returning a non-usable system, which was not providing clarity in low light situations. When posting here, and looking for a new DVR/Camera solution, I was wondering if someone could break down, in real world, end user benefit/value things like CIF, D1, h.262, etc. I've read the spec, and understand the differing resolutions, but am curious to hear from some of you.

Repetitive low light conditon cam recommendations /questions
SecurityTech replied to bass1's topic in Security Cameras
Having only a handful of posts, I can't help but agree. I've been reading these forums for quite some time, and having recently purchased (now returned) a system that did NOT provide usable night time video, I found myself posting here for exactly this reason.
