  2. Hello, am trying to help a friend who was tasked to do a 16ch install resolve an offsite viewing issue. Analog 16ch Lorex with 8 cams running, all viewable on site over the LAN, DVR set to static with it's IP, (3) ports for DVR forwarded to that IP in router. Have tried hitting the direct outside IP with port 80, and 9000 with no connect. My friend setup the free LorexDDNS account, and tried that as well, no connect. No firewalls on the site, simple Cable modem, router, and DVR. Have tried IE, and Lorex Client with no luck. Final step was to verify the outside IP was correct and still no luck.
  3. As a follow up question for any of you familiar with this setup, as I am coming from an analog 16ch, 540TVL setup now with a 1.5T drive, any ideas on how much recording time a 1T will allow for, say all 4 recording 24/7 ???

  5. I have a Intellipix G4-HD-E DVR which saves the video files in a .dav format. I have some footage that I need to forward to authorities. I have been unable to find any video format converter which will convert the native .dav format to .avi, .mpg, etc. There IS a "player" provided by the manufacturer here which is a simple, no frills player, but it does have a convert to .avi option. After using this, I have a pink band at the bottom of the video and cannot determine why. The player successfully converts from .dav to .avi and I have tried converting to other formats, with no change. I have a test video sample which shows the pink band . Even in this test video from a friends house, is it clear. My codecs are up to date. I currently am using AnyVideoConverter, and Divx plus. Any thoughts ? In closing, Mike from Shore View Security who is a member here, was accurate about the G4 DVR, very good unit.
  6. Hello to the CCTV Forum members. Long time reader, first time poster. I am in the Security industry and my company does sell, install, and maintain high end security, access, fire, and surveillance systems. The systems mentioned above are far to expensive for any residential appication, including my own, which is the reason for my post. Wasn't looking for anything fancy, but needed at least 4 outdoor/IR cameras for good daytime, and acceptable night time imaging, including a DVR. Simple surveillance, that would be easy for my fiancee to navigate and use. My desire was to have motion activated recording as opposed to 24/7. Again, not a high security environment, don't even need sound. With that said, purchased a Lorex (no applause/laughter please) DVR (4 channel) and 4 outdoor IR cameras. DVR interface was rather clunky/unprofessional, but worked ok. Outdoor IR cameras were 480 TVL and had surprisingly good daytime images, but night time in 0 lux left much to be desired. Due to (common with inexpensive cameras) extreme amounts of snow, graininess, and other artifacts during night time imaging, it constantly triggered the motion record feature on the DVR. No amount of adjustments (yes, tried the gain) on the cameras, nor masking/sensitivity adjustments via the DVR would resolve. To be fair, I did not have very high expectations of a lower spec'd system, but had hoped for a quick easy install this would have worked good enough to prevent me from returning it. This was not the case. I am again shopping around for a decent 4 IR camera/ DVR setup for my house, stumbled across the following site, and 4 camera DVR package and was looking for any thoughts, or feedback. Please remember this does NOT need to be state of the art, just good enough for basic monitoring/recording, with motion activated recording, DVR (with off site), and good on site viewing. I appreciate any responses given. I cannot direct link or post images due to this forums 5 post rule. The system was viewed on World Eye Cam's site. 7. You mean the G4 Intellicam right? I dont know of any GE DVRs with an HDMI output. Yes, thank you and I edited/corrected my post.
  8. This post/reply is long overdue and I wanted to give thanks to Mike aka. ShoreViewSecurity for all of his help, and giving me exactly what my project required. I had originally purchased (low priced) a Lorex 4 channel DVR and 4 Lorex (believe it or not, they have a IR cut filter) day/night cameras. Was very displeased by the images, false motion triggers due to ambient noise at night, and a very limited (yes it was a cheap one) DVR. Spent quite a bit of time talking with Mike, who was more than happy to help out. Although I had originally looked at the G4 DVR from a different seller, Mike was still willing to help out regardless of where I purchased from, and that says a lot about him, and his integrity. I decided to purchase a G4 DVR and try out some Sony day/night cameras. To further the positive experience with Mike, when I placed my order the DVR I had selected was out of stock (hard to keep hot sellers on the shelves) he offered to upgrade me at no cost. I am extremely satisfied with the G4 DVR, and the picture is indeed incredible. The HDMI output is VERY useful as Mike stated when veiwing on a HD screen. All of the features of the DVR met or exceeded what Mike stated. With that said, I highly recommend dealing with him, and will indeed being not only sending business his way, but doing business with him again. Thanks Mike for taking the time to chat back and forth, and really take an interest in the limitations with my prevoius setup, and dialing in a solid solution which has not left me with a compromise, but one that serves my needs perfectly.
  9. Hello, have recently started posting here after returning a non-usable system, which was not providing clarity in low light situations. When posting here, and looking for a new DVR/Camera solution, I was wondering if someone could break down, in real world, end user benefit/value things like CIF, D1, h.262, etc. I've read the spec, and understand the differing resolutions, but am curious to hear from some of you.
  10. I have an important clip recorded on my old DVR which only allowed backups via the .mov format. I saw more than one recommendation here for Any Video Converter which I have used to convert from .mov to .wmv. I have tried about every possible setup, output settings, etc, and the time/date get wiped during the conversion. Anyone else have this happen ? Any fixes ??
  11. Not much help, but it might help lead to a solution. From MSN:
  12. Typically they are used to allow for and create positive, upward air flow from a lower location (as in relation to the roof), to the top of the roof. This allows hotter (and humid) air to exit the roof through a ridge vent. People often times DEFEAT this simple (hot air rises) system by insulating their attack joists, running the insulation all the way out to the soffit. This of course defeats the purpose, and no longer allows hot air to circulate and leave via the ridge vent. It helps keep your attic, roof, and shingles cooler in most cases. Had quite a few pics of this, but I cannot post pics or links.
  13. Exactly the same impression I got.
  14. Mike, sent you a PM with some questions.
  15. Having only a handful of posts, I can't help but agree. I've been reading these forums for quite some time, and having recently purchased (now returned) a system that did NOT provide usable night time video, I found myself posting here for exactly this reason.
  16. Thanks for the reply Shoreviewsecurity. I'm across the water from you in DE, so nice to have a local perspective. I think that when tomcctv mentioned "cheap", I think he was referring to my previous purchase (now returned), not the latter. I cannot say that I delve too deeply in the specs or recording/viewing resolution in my day to day, so to that effect, I'm picking up information as I go along. I do appreciate your post, and the fact that you do have first hand experience with the unit(s), which helps as well. If my budget were much higher I would have chosen one of my own companies solutions, but sadly my budget does not allow for that level of install. To be fair, the Lorex system was fairly low priced, and my expectations were not set overly high, and just needed some simple, basic coverage with off site capability, nothing more. I will say this, having spent a great deal of time working with cameras and systems costing 10X+ more, with the exception of the almost unusable night time (recorded) images, it really wasn't that bad of a setup, for the money. Thanks again SVS for the welcome, the first hand information, and again to tomcctv for his feedback. I run/manage a large forum myself, and know all full and well the value of a good forum, with good base of users willing to help. Perhaps if I relocate to the East, I will send a resume your direction.
  17. Thanks for the feedback. I was less concerned with meeting the h264 spec, and more about a marked improvement from the now returned system. You mentioned the CIF, are you saying the resolution is going to be less than expected ?
