I have a Panasonic WV-CW484 running on an individual 12 VDC adapter, 1300 mA, running on about 40 feet of 1 pair from Cat5 (All other wires on the cat5 are used - can't double the line). The camera is working fine but I need to replace the power supply because it belongs to someone else. A brand new 12 VDC, 1.5 Amp did not provide enough juice. The 18 Ch 12 VDC, 10 Amp main power supply did not provide enough juice for the Panasonic. I checked the specs in the booklet and it says the cam can run on 24 VAC, 5.3 Watt or 12 VDC 430 mA. So here is the question: should I buy a 24 VAC? If so do I look for 5.3 Watt? Or should I get another 12 VDC 1300 mA? I can't figure out why the 1.5 Amp would not work since it seems more than the 1.3. However I just check the output on the DC adapter there now and it say 17 VDC yet the sticker on it says 12. The meter reading at the camera says 13 VDC. Should I get something with higher volts?

Thanks, how many amps should I get? I did a quick search and I am seeing a range from 24 VAC 500 mA to 2 and 3 amps. This is where my electrical knowledge needs help

I'll bet you can cut a hood and secure it with a metal strap. I just installed one on the attached pic. Check out the upper right side of the picture; I used a thick bendable plastic. Sheet metal also works. You can custom fit it to minimize the lose of view. This also helps with rain. The camera is a CNB VCM-24VF

Just thought I'd share the difference with the Panasonic Super Dynamic III (WV-CW484) dome cameras in high contrasting light. Thanks to Soundy for the suggestion. The images were taken within 6 days of each other, roughly the same time on a sunny day.

I just put these in at 2 outdoor locations on our building. These are very nice cameras with good weather resistant features. For example the video out BNC and power exit through the back; that hole is sealed with a thick foam like enclosure and the wire then has silicone around that. There is the option to re-route the wire inside to meet a connecting conduit connector. You can then seal the original wire hole with the threaded cap from the side of the housing. I did place a thick plastic hood around the housing which provides cover for the dome. I do this for most domes since rain on the dome causes some distortion of the image. Although in a wind driven rain this will not help much. To be safe I caulked the area around the cam where the housing met the wall. About 6 hours after install we had a rain storm; I check it out the next morning and the inside was dry as a bone. The most striking difference is the view at night/low light. Check out my attached before and after pictures using a shot from our old cams and from the new CNBs. I still need to play around with the focus

I am having a tough time finding a wide angle cam. Here is what I need: at least a 2.2MM; BNC connection, High Res., Dome, IR would be great. Could not find many after hours of searching. Check out the picture, I think the lens is 2.0..what do you think? Any ideas where I can get one

Does anyone have any experience with the Samsung SCC-B5396? I will be upgrading a few cameras in a high crime area. This will be a wall mount application with strong morning sun (dome mounted and faces east; lens faces south). There is also afternoon shadows along the sidewalk where the camera's lens will be focused while the afternoon sun will shine on the street but not sidewalk. Basically this is a neighborhood with high foot traffic and drug activity where we need to capture subjects within 8 to 20 feet from the camera day and night. Do you think this camera would be a good decision?

Thanks for your suggestions, I will use them. The price of the CNB Monalisa is not high; I will get it but want to be sure it is worth the purchase. Can anyone share an example?

I am the security manager for a small non profit social work agency in a gritty, high crime area; footage is turned over to the police regularly and was used recently in a trial. Currently we have a 16 cam system, all BNC connected and they cover the entire perimeter and interior public locations. I was given $2000 to upgrade the current cameras and need help with getting the best for the money. The upgrade is at my discretion and I do not need to buy all new cams, just a few in key areas. Here is a link to the cams currently installed: http://www.ablcorp.com/VPD-411VADN.htm and here is a link with pictures showing the actual views http://picasaweb.google.com/jxk716/Cams# or see below. Cams 3 and 16 are PTZ and do not need an upgrade. Also, all interior lights are out so lighting is not as well if they were on. However cam 6 looks at the door and on bright days there is a lot of darkness, even with lights on, in the lobby. What would be a better cam for this area so that subjects are clearly seen in this area during the day? I looked at some of those Samsung A1 cams but not sure. Take a look at the night cams; this is where I need to cut down on the digital noise so subjects are more clear. Any suggestions? I would like to stay with a dome style but I am not sold on that. By the way, cam 3 PTZ is usually in focus but I forgot to change it from Auto focus and car lights tend to throw it off (not going to replace this one) Cam 9 and 15 are wide angle, usually shadows at day and no lights at night. There are not the same as the others, have a lens of maybe a 1.7 or something like that, but not great quality, especially at night. They need to remain wide angle; any suggestions for those? Again I am not looking to replace all the cams with the $2000, just enough in key areas like out front and/or in the alley (cams 13/14) or side (cams 9-10) at night. Maybe next year I will get another allowance to buy more. But for now, what do you think?

The Picasaweb link doesn't seem to work, BTW... tells me it's a broken link. Try this link: http://picasaweb.google.com/jxk716/Cams#

PICTURES: Installing Panasonic dome outside under eave

Aline, not sure if you have fixed the light issue coming from your lamp post but I had the same problem. I found some sheet metal laying around, trimmed it just enough to to shade the camera...works great. I left a flange on the piece so that it rests under the lid. The area below the cam is lit but the lens is shaded.
