where do you buy your bnc compression connectors from?
jxk716 replied to sicctv's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I've purchased these from Amazon ($8.04 for 10) on several installs and have not had a problem. The removable center pin is nice because it eliminates needing a depth mark on the cable etc. -
We use a 66 Block for our telcom connections but we also run 24 VAC (over 1 pair) to ceiling microphones about 70 feet away. The audio pair then terminates on the 66 and extends to the phone system (PBX) so we can listen in through the phones (well we were supposed to listen through the phones but the mics do not jive well with the PBX despite being told they would). Also, on the same 66, we have all pairs of another Cat5 terminated on the block for the DVR's KVM. That wire is terminated to an RJ-45 and a patch cable is used from the wall to the remote monitor. No problem with video at all.

Which cable and which adapters
jxk716 replied to smcctv's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
The RG59 will work from DVR to TV and you will need a twist on or compression RCA connector at the TV end (as long as the DVR has a video Output). Make sure you get connectors for RG 59 OR Compression with the use of a compression Tool -
Take a look at these posts, it will get the ideas going for you: http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=24051&hilit=clamp&start=0 http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=28263&p=184772&hilit=ceiling#p184772 http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=22638&p=135112&hilit=beam+clamp#p135112

Need some veteran advice/confirmation I have this all right
jxk716 replied to speteman's topic in System Design
I remember a post from a while ago here saying the VBM/VCMs had the RS 485 connection on cameras released in certain regions. Europe is ringing a bell but not sure. I know that on the VCM and VBMs I have installed there is no RS 485 connection. -

Well, its always better to power PTZs locally (close to the camera) because of their draw. But your're on the right path. -

I have been running 12 VDC over Cat5 (2 pairs) for 3 years on the VCMs. No problem what so ever. -
Our no name Korean 16 Ch. PC Based DVR experienced some of the vary same symtoms listed above. 2 new hard drives and it is like new. However it was time consuming to copy the C drive and set up the hard drives for thr pc card. We also found the SATA connection wires were non-locking and caused issues when not secured. Once we got everything installed we ran Ccleaner and Acoutics Disk Defrag/optimizer. Now, we have very few problems except for an occasional blue screen after giving replay a work out. The whole experience was enough to get a 3xLogic Hybrid; shipping soon.

Throw in an Appolo DVR and you'll be good to go!

I live in a drug zone (next to a supermarket parking lot; the dealer resides in a barber shop across the street). I rarely call the cops because the more you call the more you loose credibility with patrol - unless you know an officer. With every deal I see I baack up the footage. Often I get the MP digital cam and snap a few pics. Sooner or later you'll meet a cop who cares and he can use the footage. Problem is, in my city, the ****roaches are all over and there are not enough cops.

I don't have much to offer other than making sure your active X prompts are enabled in IE (custom security settings), you are running IE as an administrator and in compatibility mode.

Port 80 redirect or Web hop - any success stories?

In case 86 does not work try 8080. -
Cabling question regarding CAT5..

I think you are referring to the green connector on that camera. It is for power. The grey and black connector is for RS 485 (the VCMs do not have those) -
Cabling question regarding CAT5..
jxk716 replied to camera-newbie's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Usually baluns are separate. the CNB VCM 24vf have a BNC video output. At my home, I've used PVC conduit, junction boxes and flex tube where needed. It was least expensive and easy to work with. But, yes, if you plan to run cable outside it is best to protect it. -
So, just in case I can not buy the 8 port PoE with GB up-links, can the RG 59 accept 24 VAC? I have an altronix 16 chanel central power supply. This is just a back up plan in case I can't get the switch. Thanks, Soundy, you are and remain the best!

Thanks Soundy. Great info! I know it is cat 5 because I was there when they ran it and remember checking the wire. For the price I am paying from the intergrator for a 8 port switch, I can get an 8 port PoE switch. Would something like this work with that camera and allow for more IP cameras down the line? I am looking at http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000ANF8FE/ref=mp_s_a_4?qid=1332699914&sr=8-4 Or should I go with a GB switch? And, I'm confused. Acording to their web page the VSX 2MP VD accepts 24 VAC http://www.3xlogic.com/prod/1617/vsx-2mp-vd-2-megapixel-indooroutdoor-vandal-dome-daynight-ip-camera

Do you think this would work? I am open to suggestions. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003CFATQU/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_1?pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B004DR5D4O&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1HQ2H0CQ73NX9CR9GZ6J

Ya know, I will be swapping an outdoor, wall mounted analog camera for my first IP upon receiving a hybrid DVR. I am 90% sure there is Cat5 at the camera location (currently used for power) and RG-59 (not Siamese) for video. Both wires were run before the walls were sheet rocked so they are buried. Do IP cams, in this case a VISIX VSX-2MP-VD, use all 4 pairs of the Cat5? I mean is there any chance I can grab an unused pair and connect it to the 24 VAC? Purchasing PoE or one of the IP over coax adapters may not be feasible at this time. Or can I use a power over coax adapter to send the 24 VAC over the existing RG59; something like this?http://www.hometech.com/hts/products/video/interconnects/rf/me-vvl2122.html?key=A27&utm_source=google&utm_medium=referral&utm_term=ME-VVL2122&utm_campaign=Electronics+%3E+Electronics+Accessories+%3E+Cables+%3E+Audio+&+Video+Cables&utm_content=Marshall+Electronics

5 outlets in the man cave at 120V including one dedicated 20 AMP circuit for the server. We ended up moving the server to another outlet so, on the dedicated, we have the cameras, DVR, proxy server (Windows PC), phone system, access control, a router and a few other low volt items. The receptacle for the server also houses 2 UPSs and an untangle server (windows PC)

Yeah, I had to deop down to a 65W flood for better face shots. Even that is too bright for the VCM 24 VFs. I was at 90 W; forget it, way too bright.

Balun Power Connection - Need Adapter Help

But your original picture looks like it already has a male end. Soundy is right...cut, strip and terminate. -
Balun Power Connection - Need Adapter Help
jxk716 replied to JackOfAllTrades's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
You can try something like this: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/314pM51YkFL._SY180_.jpg Or cut the the male power plug and splice into the green connector. -
I am looking at the PRO 16 Ch tower hybrid DVR from 3xLogic. From what I can tell, their manual indicates hard wired PTZ presets are numbered from 1-10. Is there more? If yes or no how would I access a camera's menu...typically preset #95?
-
The camera from the first picture should work nicely. The rest should probably be lower as their view angle will be steep preventing prospective facial shots. Can you mount under the first level of eves or on the walls? Even the front door, mounted directly to the left, should not be as high. Maybe 24 -30 inches lower but that is IMHO.
