  1. Rory Thought you might like to see your handy work in action " title="Applause" /> . The Lot and Back yard cams are VBM 24VFs. I am also using your PSS Portable - another awesome program for the DVR - the full PSS is really clunky to use
  2. Got my new Qvis 4 channel today...Just downloaded and installed Rory's single viewer and, in a word, awesome! I can have a reduced browser up as well as the single viewer on desktop where space permits. And BTW what a difference from the old Qsee DVR in terms of live/playback quality. And then I discovered the Blackberry app! There are not enough words to describe the liberation from the old, discontinued, Qsee
  3. Just ordered my 4 ch Dahua today. These viewers will come in very handy;for example I like to have the cameras at work up at home, now I can have these screens (for my home cameras) on the side of the work cams. My desktop will be all cams - love it! Rory, yeah if you ever have time to play with a playback motion bar for either PSS or IE I will come down there and wash your car for a week!
  4. What are the chances you can make playback show a green bar (on a time line), for each channel, indicating recorded motion?
  5. Rory, you are the best and one of the reasons I have chosen Dahua DVRs for friends and family when they ask what kind should they get. For me, I will be getting a 4 channel Dahua from the profits of my current camera job and will use all your help that you posted about them; especially this and the other programing functions. If I ever get to the Bahamas on vacation I hope to meet you, even shadow you and learn a thing or two. I am still a novice at this after all!
  6. I purchased a Veilux FDNC27X PTZ and use the DVR's software for control. All works well but the Veilux manual says key in preset 95 to access the OSD; my presets only go to 64. Attached is a pick the vendor gave to me with the DVR specs. Short of buying a PTZ controller does anyone know how I can access the OSD?

    adt camera

I had an ADT system years ago and found the manual for the monitor which housed the power source. From what I can remember they were. 27 or 28 VAC but I can't be sure. The book also has the pinout. I promised myself never to throw that away so I will look for it and post details asap.

    Calling all experts!!

I just installed a 4 Channel Dahua DVR; it had software for Iphone and other mobile devises and is very easy to configure. I used CNB VBM 24 VFs on siamese cable back to the dvr and a standard 4 port power source (24 VAC).
  10. An out of town law enforcement friend of mine is looking for some advice on a wireless covert camera to cover the foot traffic in and out of a house. This would basically take the place of a steak-out. Here are some requirements: Right now there is no budget, just ideas -the camera needs to be hidden in perhaps nearby bushes or near a neighbor's garbage containers looking at the front door about 25 to 50 feet away so some type of zoom lens -on board recording would help unless there is a way to send the video signal wireless about 500 feet away to a recorder - there is no option to set up a camera on this property where a recorder can go. -8 hours worth of motion recorded footage would be needed to review, off load footage and set up again -Camera view quality - good enough to pick up individual characteristics like clothing or car types stopping by - we understand night time will be tough so facial recognition is not required.

    Need some help please

I've always used BMC compression connectors; but then you will need the tool for it. Google the compression tool and you will find some deals. You can also find youtube videos on how to connect them. As far as a dedicated circuit it can't hurt. I've done a few jobs for friends and family, all of them on an existing circuit. The cams do not draw a lot but if something else trips on that line there goes the cameras. I will defer to others in the forum for the DVR choice as I am not sure.
  12. Thanks, we tossed that idea around and wanted to see if anyone else thought so on the forum. I will pass the info along

CNB Vbm-24vf Without Smoke Dome Cover

Here is a minute long video of the VBM 24VF dome cover on and off in 2 different lighting scenarios taken directly from the DVR. You guys be the judge.

CNB Vbm-24vf Without Smoke Dome Cover

I've got the smoked domes as well and noticed a slight difference while sitting at the DVR as the dome was placed or removed. In July we'll be moving to another building and I'll take the cameras with us so maybe it is time to replace the 6 outside domes with the clear bubble. Vandalism will not be a major factor; I have Googled the D2000 clear bubble and can not find much. If there are any ideas where I can get them I'll take it. However I wonder if the difference is enough to replace them?
  15. Wide Dynamic Range and Back Light Compensation This may help. As a novice I found it really informative http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=24522
  16. Hate to say it, but there's quite a bit of truth there. In urban areas, the courts are often so clogged with cases, that even violent assaults and robberies get plea-bargained away. A simple property crime isn't going to get much jail time, if any. And restitution? Forget it... the kinds of people we're talking about don't work, don't actually own anything, and frequently have several addresses that they "live at." Finding them is hard enough, but actually finding some kind of attachable asset or paycheck you can garnish? You can forget that too. Scamming and avoiding the system is a way-of-life in certain criminal subcultures. For all intents and purposes, such individuals are judgment-proof, and better off avoided. The only hope left, which has occured in my situation, they get tired of getting busted because it means 12 -24 hours without booze/drugs. They moved on in our neighborhood only to be replaced by their friends. I have to admit something here; we pay for extra duty city police to provide security and they bust idiots outside regularly based on what they see on the cams. The same guys have been there a while and we have a raport with them. Don't know what we'd do if that relationship was not there. Sorry guys for going off topic here.

    Outdoor camera selection question(s).

I have 14 CNB VBM 24 VFs installed on the outside walls of a building in NE Pennsylvania and found them to be very reliable in all kinds of weather. One feature I like, at least with the cameras I have, are the video and power connector exit the camera's back through a sealed small hole making it difficult for moisture to get in. I did add PVC visors which helps with morning sun in the winter and also helps shield rain year round. The picture was taken from a VBM about 6 hours after a steady rain began . Here is a topic that may help: http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=20982
  18. I am installing a 16 cam system in a new building and will be using a KVM to view/control the DVR located in the server room - about a 120 foot run from the security station. Has anyone out there worked with a KVM? Any suggestions for a specific type given a security setting? The DVR is PC based and has 2 sets of Keyboard/Monitor/Mouse inputs.

    KVM Suggestion

Sorry for the lack of detail. All I need to do is extend the DVR's keyboard, VGA and mouse over Cat 5 for about 120 feet from the server room to the security station where the police officer will sit. In other words, all the officer will have is a monitor, keyboard and mouse. The DVR will be in the server room. In our current configuration (different building) the officer uses live view, playback and PTZ at the DVR (which is about 3 feet below the monitor). I am not crazy about using the DVR's remote software over the LAN because it does not have the capability of playback and PTZ like at the regular DVR software. However I do plan on using the remote software on multiple PCs around the office.
  20. I have 2 BNC video outputs on the DVR; one is in use sending the DVR signal to the TV's auxiliary video input; the other is open. I would like to run coax from the remaining BNC output to another household TV that has a cable box hooked up to it. If I purchased something like a cable A/B Switch so that I can watch regular cable TV and switch off to watch the live cameras through the DVR do you think it would work? This is what I had in mind
  21. You Guys are Brilliant!
  22. As luck would have it I already have one connected to the secondary TV I want the cameras on but the DVD player is connected to the video in on the modulator. So I probably can not get by with using a splitter or RCA Y cable to accept both right? I am thinking it would work as long as the DVD player is off but as soon as it is on there will be 2 live video feeds and that can't be good.
  23. I installed a double flood fixture to the side of the dome about 6 inches away and wished I placed it above. Initially a glare appeared creating a cloudy picture, almost as if it was a foggy night. Installed a hood onto the camera to shade the light and it works. The other thing I noticed was not needing a high watt light since faces were too bright to reconize (the focal point is about 10 feet). Currently using 60 watt flood.
  24. I have the same camera mounted indoors. It has made a steady light pitched hum, typical of any fan I've seen that size, since installing it new. One can hear it as they walk under the cam and I always wondered when that fan would go since it is tiny and seems easy to break. I'll probably end up disconnecting it as well.
  25. Just trying to get the creative process going for the group here. Next time I'll only respond if I can help you directly.
