  1. My understanding is that it's a full fledged router and no way to turn the router capabilities off making it not possible to port forward for external access.
  2. ACTi NVR software only works with ACTi cameras.

    megapixel camera

Its a keeper, I rely on it daily to tell me what my mood is, otherwise I wouldn't know. My wife even has records and bought a record player, but I don't think she knows how to work it and asks me why doesn't it display the name of the song. It's hilarious looking, made to look like and old antique record player my grandmother may have owned as a child. They should make analog surveillance cameras that look like old time cameras like this -

    megapixel camera

I only use megapixels cameras, indoors or out. I even stopped using analog TV's and threw out my VCR, 8-Track and all my floppy disks although I still have my mood ring and pet rock, I think those can only go up in value.
  5. Thanks for comfirming that Mobotix can perform in this environment. I see you work with OpenEye, what do you think of their cameras? We put in 7 CM-715ai and yanked them out because they had serious led bleed and their motorized focus was impossible to set correctly. Was very disspointed with them as we had good hopes from their lesser cameras that peform well.
  6. I didn't notice an image quality difference between the web interface and BlueIris. Also, tested with another 1080P Dahua camera in the same location, same circumstances and the recording was smooth. Not sure what happened when I first tested it, could be a camera firmware release difference. I plan on using BlueIris when I get the cameras setup how I want so I can mix brands.
  7. The Axis Q6035 will be a good camera for this. Has a nice clean crisp image and 1080P resolution. If you want to save money, the Axis P5534 has the same quality image, but 720P. I would imagine if you want to display the image on a JumboTron, you need the 1080P resolution. These cameras come with the PoE injector.

    Http port not opening?

Not enought information, what's the camera brand? Some cameras require more than one port to be opened for them to work remotely. For example, ACTi cameras require 3 ports to be open, not just the HTTP port. Your camera manfucaturer should provide a manual that tells you what to do.
  9. I've done reviews on my blog on various PTZ cameras. Axis makes really nice clear sharp 720P and 1080P speed domes.
  10. The ActiveX control probably didn't get installed properly or at all.
  11. Every now and then, a camera needs to be reset but I'm not home to reset it so I was thinking of getting managed switch like this one where I can toggle power to the camera - ZyXEL ES2108PWR. Anyone have experience with this PoE managed switch or any other managed switch. I did look at Cisco, about the same price, but it has a 60w max, same issue I have with Trendnet with 30W max, runs out of power with 3/4 of the ports used while the ZyXEL seems to have full PoE on each port. Usually happens at night, the IR illuminators come and wham, mayhem, cameras crash.
  12. I don't think so, not that small a quantity. If the quantity was closer to 50-100 you can likely do it. Are you including bank transfer fees and shipping in the $100?

    Managed Switch

I had Axis that needed to be reset on occasion and ACTi too. Mobotix and Dahua not so much as they both have a feature to reboot the camera on a schedule. The problem is they will work for a long time until the minute you step on a plane for a 2 week trip, then it fails.
  14. Contact the folks you got it from and order the lenses you want or sell the camera and buy one with the correct lens. Trying to find a perfect lens online is a total crapshoot. First, what if the length is different, too long and cover won't close, too short and you may get light bleed from the LEDs. If it was the Dahua 1080P dome, you can probably get away with it because it's go plenty of room between the lens and the dome cover and there's no IR illuminators.

I was planning on having a handi wipe dispenser nearby so they can clean their plates and drive through again. This is just an alternate method of going in. If they don't have plates (new cars in California don't get plates for about 6-8 weeks), if there plates are dirty, then they have to use our current access control system or come in as a guest and use the entry dialer. If we get 90% read accuracy, that would be ideal. And I agree, vanity plates with hearts or hand prints on them have to read by the reader by passing only readable numbers.
  16. Dome cameras tend to be exposed more than other styles, so if it gets below freezing where you are then that's a consideration. Check the temp specs for the camera you are buying. For a cheap bullet, check out the Dahua IPC-HFW2100. Just be under $200 USD, not sure how much by you. It's 1.3MP or 720P, built in illuminators, fixed lens but they offer choices. Step it up to more of a name brand, the ACTi TCM-1111 runs under $300 USD.
  17. I like the concept, but they need to add support for more cameras to gain more popularity.

Thanks, not the one I remember but I emailed IPConfigure with questions. It's cool that their LPR software works inside of an existing Axis camera.
  19. That's a tough price point for an outdoor dome, especially in the UK where you may need one with a heater. If you can go up slightly, to maybe $600 there's some good dome choices.

I want to know too as it would be cool to have gate in a community automatically open after a scan and match of a resident's license plate. No need to spend money on transponders and long distance readers when just the reader alone cost as much as a good ALPR camera not to mention the $20-30/transponder. I saw them at ISC West about 6 months ago but lost the guys contact info for one that looked really cool. It took a picture of the car with a VGA camera and captured the plate using an LPR camera and processed that into text for use with an access control system. It worked very fast, up to 100mph and did a cool demo by spinning a drum with about 8 license plate that he spun and it capture every single one even though it was a total blur watching it spin. I bet at the ASIS show in Philly next week there will be ALPR exhibits. If anyone is going, please get some info for us.
  21. Let me know how Axxon works out. My computer was just not powerful enough to run something like 5 cameras but if you have newer hardware it may just work.
  22. We've run a router in So Cal with the temps you describe along with HID Global control panels for access control in a plain NEMA enclosure mounted on the side of a wall with a vent fan and all is well after two years. What did happen is we put an NVR in there against my better judgement and that was fried when temps hit 97F one day, lasted a few months. What we do to really push our luck is we have it surrounded by rose bushes and daily regiment of sprinklers making sure we have plenty of moisture. The best was when one installer put a access control board in a NEMA enclosure high up on a pole. Don't think he tightened everything up that well because when it stopped working, we sent a guy to check it out. He opened the enclosure and got drenched with water.

    a little advice please?

Demos always look iimpressive, it's marketing's job to make them go that way
  24. Works in frigid cold, down to 14F (-10°C), at least frigid for me in California.
