  1. This is bizarre as my PC that is running Milestone or my desktop can run Smart Client and it just works, just give it the IP under computer, basic authentication and user name password. I checked the Milestone forum and it shows people connecting remotely with an IP address with the GO version. So something went bad in your install maybe. I would uninstall Smart Client on you PC (not the one running Milestone) and download a fresh copy of the Smart Client here - http://www.milestonesys.com/Support/Technical-Support/Download-software/ For some reason, it shows Smart Client and Server Side Smart Client in the downloads, didn't even know they distinguished between the two, may be new for 2014. I would install the Smart Client, not the Server Side Smart Client, maybe that's the problem.
  2. Select the sub stream for live viewing, it will make the mobile client faster and use less CPU. I have 10 cameras (8 are 3MP, 2 are 1.3MP) on an i5 that's half the speed of yours and those are the CPU numbers I get. It will still use the main stream at 3MP to record and playback.
  3. Have have to restart everything to be safe. Also, configure the second stream on the camera under Video/Audio, select Sub Stream from the top drop down and pick the options for that stream as maybe it's set to something Milestone is not expecting like MJPEG.
  4. If you messed up the process above, then you need to use the TFTP method to force a firmware install. I would pick 5.1 (doesn't matter English or China). It will work in many different languages with a default of English. The TFTP method is described elsewhere, search for it. As for the reset, did you follow the proper reset procedure. Don't remember what it is, but I'm sure it's not just pressing the reset button.
  5. On Milestone, in the management app, click on camera and I think it has a button that says camera or settings, don't remember, not home. Then it gives you a menu on the left, I think video is the option. There's an option for multi-stream that you check.
  6. Yes. Does it work on the same PC as Milestone server? If so, does it let you change the IP address?
  7. I have mine set to use the sub-stream for each camera. This affects live viewing only, not recording which is still done at 3MP for the main stream. It's in the cameras settings, don't remember which, I think video, but if you can't find it, let me know and I'll check mine.
  8. Don't know what's going on as I have Smart Client 2014 on Window 8.1 on my desktop (separate from Milestone server PC) and I can enter an IP address or domain name (I connect to 2 servers and it works fine.
  9. Windows 8.1, ughh. Anyway, you can use remote clients if you setup a basic userid and password so do that first in the management app. With Smart Client on the other PC, use the IP address of the PC running Milestone and your newly created user/password. With the Go version, you are limited to one client connected at any time, so if you are logged in somewhere else, it may not let you connect. One tip is you can get the Smart Client software by connecting to the server running Milestone with a browser (port 80).

    Milestone Questions

You need 8081 for the mobile app (without SSL) and the web client. You need 8082 if you use SSL in the web client.
  11. Did you activate the cameras using the new license file?

    Milestone Xprotect Error

We had a problem of it losing connection to cameras, but Milestone offered patch and it's stable now. Call support.
  13. They were not impressed with the two 100' long cat 5 cables I put in the box, but I made the cameras look good in Hikvision bullet boxes, LOL and they took it back. Thanks for the tip, I really hated those cameras, made my grass funny and we take our grass seriously in California, lawns too.
  14. In the newer firmware on Hikvision cameras, you can setup face detection so that it recognizes the human face and will likely avoid the face of insects, even large ones like Jeff Goldblum in The Fly. I don't use iVMS4200 but there should be a way to trigger a recording based on that instead of video motion detect. I know in Milestone XProtect there's an option to use the in-camera face detection.
  15. Sounds awesome. I can include the cabling, it's a rats nest, but they can have it back.
  16. Yes, you change it in the Image settings, Video Adjustment, Video Standard. It's not separate firmware like with Dahua.
  17. It's their new baby and sometimes it takes 9 months. They also have some 12MP cameras coming by then. My guess is the launch is tied into the ISC West show.

Tips for hiding cameras, pics inside

From that far away, you'll need some sort of telephoto lens and Dahua goes to 8mm on their fixed lens cameras. I would put it in a birdhouse as noted above. Put a Dahua mini bullet in there, shave off the top lip to make it flush and it will be discrete.
  19. I have the original 720P Q-See cameras. I checked yesterday if they can provide newer firmware than that from 2012. They said they don't expect to release another firmware upgrade. Dahua keeps up with the firmware updates, but Q-See doesn't want anything to do with it. The reason I don't buy from OEM's anymore as I had the same exact problem with Hikvision OEMs. They promise you the moon, then a year later they abandon the product because it's not theirs. What do you have to do to return them? I got mine 10/2014, so less than 2 years. Can I just bring the parts back or do I need to have the original box and stuff?
  20. I don't think it would be comparable as it does not have the superior low light sensitivity of the KCM-5611. But it does have 30fps 1080P where the KCM-5611 is only 15fps. What I'm really waiting for is their low light 6MP cameras, like the B413 or E421. They claim this sensor will outperform the KCM-5611 sensor (and 3x the resolution) and do 6MP at 30fps. I believe their first camera to have this chip is the hemispheric B74 due out end of the November.
  21. Do you mean your camera is Chinese only and you want to upgrade the firmware or do you want to change it from Chinese to English language? If your camera is in Chinese, you can update the camera via the browser using China firmware as you'll get a language mismatch if you try and install English firmware. You can use the TFTP method to install English firmware on a China camera, but it will still be in Chinese unless you hack the camera using one of the various methods discussed previously.
  22. I think the concept of the NTSC/PAL is to make the frame rate compatible with the flicker from light bulbs. The idea being that if you chose NTSC outside the U.S. where 50hz is common for electricity, and you set the frame rate at 30fps, you potentially could have issues indoors where your lighting pulses at a different frequency than the frame rate. I have not tried to see what happens because it's not important to me, but that's the theory.

    Axxon

Does look like it could be good but I've not been able to get it to work for me. It's free for up to 16 cameras and 1TB of recording. From people that use it, the CPU use is pretty low.

    making a video still clearer

The numbers appear to be about 12-13 pixels tall which should be readable but the image is so out of focus it's not usable. Try focusing the camera first and if you can't get a clearer picture. If it's a varifocal are changeable lens, try a longer focal length to get a larger plate number. Also could just be dirt on the lens that's making it that way. If you can't get a clear picture, you can get very decent 1080P cameras these days for well under $200 USD.
  25. So 3 PoE switches, I take it 10-12 cameras each. Are these gigabit switches or gigabit uplink port? Are the cameras running h.264 compression or mjpeg or mpeg?
