  1. They sell enclosures for hazardous areas, typically for explosion resistance or chemical issues. Google explosion proof camera housing. There's always a few companies selling these at trade shows.

    SSH to Acti Camera

1 - not that i know of 2 - get it from their website
  3. First, understand that the reason we need DDNS is because our ISP's are stuck on antiquated IPV4 technology. If ISP's would allow IPV6 you would not need port forwarding, you would not have a dynamic IP address and your security risks would be much lower because each device would have it's own IP address. So DDNS is a symptom of a much larger problem. If my ISP's including AT&T, Cox & Charter provided IPV6 I would be all over it. Companies like dyndns and noip would go out of business. You are right, after all who do you trust with your computer security more than Microsoft and why muddy the waters by allowing the accused to defend themselves in a U.S. court Yet every day, computers using Microsoft products are affected by viruses, malware. These have a way bigger impact on security of my cameras than DDNS. I just wish someone would go to court, ask a judge to shut down Microsoft for a few months while we sort out why Windows is a security risk to billions of people worldwide.

    Noip down?

Still blocked, but they are back up and I switched mine to one that is not blocked, no problem. The NOIP domain names below are not being blocked. Just change to that and you are good. if you are not where you can access the remote system/cameras, you can get the IP address by logging into your account and seeing what it is since the updaters might still be working. ddns.net webhop.me serveminecraft.net ddnsking.com onthewifi.com

    Hikvision IP cameras

You been suckered. Some resellers are honest, some try to mislead you. Yes, they get them from Hikvision, not the same as Hikvision USA, so they are warrantied by Hikvision in China, not Hikvision USA, but because it violates China's rules, you have zero warranty. I see this all the time on eBay, Amazon, they will say Hikvision USA but it's not. Hikvision USA does not allows sales to resellers, only installers/integrators. If you buy from a reseller and it says Hikvision you can be assured its not Hikvision USA, they won't warranty it, they won't support you, you have to go back to the reseller and they have to warranty it.
  6. OK, how many of you bought GoPro (GPRO) during their IPO offering at $24/share or opening price of $30/share on Thursday, now $39/share? Could have bought a bunch of 4K TV's and cameras with that profit. Close to $5B in market cap, wow.
  7. Hey, I'm the only one that doubted they were Hikvision. Seen a lot of cameras at trade shows that look like Hikvision or Dahua but are not. I figured if you tried SADP and that didn't work, then it's not Hikvision. The problem is, without their NVR, you don't know if it will work with 3rd party software or NVRs.
  8. See how you got suckered by misleading advertising. The switch says 53 watts total power, so do the math, 53/4 is not 15.4W, hmm. It will be fine though as that's about 11W at the camera and most are about 7W at night.
  9. Dahuas by default reboot on a schedule, you can turn that off. PoE switch can go bad and cause all sorts of mayhem like that. Also, many PoE switch, while they advertise 15.4W per port, have power budgets that are much less. Lastly, some lazy electricians don't follow the proper color protocol/wire sequence for RJ45 connections and then you end up with random connectivity issues.

    Finger print

Because the Iris has more points of identification than a fingerprint. Yes, possibly no two fingerprints are alike, but most fingerprint ID systems check specific points in the fingerprint, not the entire print. Also, Iris detection is done non-contact, about a few inches away, different than older retina scans where you had to be very close, within an inch of the reader. I read an article a few months ago where someone invented an iris scan capable of ID someone at 40', so the tech is evolving. There's also facial recognition, they demo'ed that at ISC West and looked promising. Imagine the paranoid company that uses this to track the person working, were he is at in the building all without them even knowing.
  11. That's not a switch, so then you need all the patch cables + extra outlet + a switch, a lot of work and wiring mess to save a few bucks.
  12. I've been using ZyXel, personally I have 2 of the es2108pwr (8 poe ports + 1 gige uplink, managed switch) and 1 of their lower cost es1100-8p (4 poe ports, 4 regular ports, unmanaged). I like them because most poe switches have power budgets, so say they have 30W aggregate total power budget for 4 ports but claim 15.4w per port but you can only use 2 if you had a camera that was 15.4W where the ZyXel are 15.4W on all ports. Also, they run off 110V, so you plug it straight into an outlet while some use a power brick and I like the cleaner look without a power brick. I believe they come with lifetime warranties and are based in So Cal. For higher end, we've use Netgear Prosafe PoE switches, but they are pricier and actually had a 24 port one fail recently. They replaced it, but a PITA, also had one of their 8 port switches lose PoE on one port. Also had a Cisco 8 port poe gige switch that started acting funky, going to try and reset it to factory, maybe get newer firmware, but I expected more from Cisco. I had a Trendnet 4 poe port model, but because of the power budget, I was having trouble at night when the IR LED's came on and overwhelmed the switch, gave that one away. So much for dealing with popular name brands.
  13. Can anyone recommend an outdoor nema box that is air-conditioned for use in warm climates, about 50-100F that can house a small NVR or NAS plus PoE switches, access control controller, mobile broadband router. Inside the box, with the sun shining on it combined with heat build up from equipment running it could reach much higher temperatures and from experience, putting any sort of hard drive has a short life expectancy when we have a heat wave, say at 95-100F on the outside, but 120-140F inside. I know it won't be cheap, but the alternative is to put in a 1,500' run with Ethernet extenders, so trying to way the options.

    Dahua firmware

Yes there is. Let me get it together and provide an location to get the firmware from.
  15. The lens is glued in place. Your best approach is to return the camera and get a replacement. I know shipping can be pricy, the risk of buying it from a foreign reseller.
  16. The nicest cube camera for that purpose is either the Hikvision DS-2CD8464F-EIW Alarm Pro or the DS-2CD2432F-IW Cube, both under $200.

Outdoor temp controlled enclosure for NVR

Thanks. I'll look into the Mier products, that looks like what's needed to maintain an NVR in the field.
  18. Someone made a claim the file is copyrighted, so I didn't post it. Try editing the davinci file manually per my 5.1.2 instructions, but shorten the search string down until you find a match, then make the same exact change, save it, tar it up and put it back in the camera.

panasonic ptz network camera fan noise

Most if not all dome cameras with fans I've tested run them continuously. Some are louder than others. If the camera has been in service a while, open it up and see if the fan has crud on it and clean it.

Who makes who in the world of IP cameras?

I thought Vivotek made Toshiba. Maybe they switched or get different cameras from different manufacturers.
  21. I know it's a tough pill to swallow, but I look at it this way. If your company is having financial issues, sometimes cutting back on this sort of stuff may help save more jobs in the long run, especially if it keeps them from closing their doors. Sending the monitoring off to state that has lower cost of labor may save or going to India will and they speak English in India. I've worked with companies that had staff in India for many years. So I understand the downsides, but the reality is customers never know and some of the largest companies do it. China does it for half the price of India, but English is not their primary language like it is in India. I have no empathy for people because of outsourcing because those very same people make decisions in their personal life as to where to buy a product or from where it's made and for the most part do so without regard to who's job it affects. How many of you buy say a book or a hard drive at Amazon because it's $10 cheaper than buying it locally from someone you pays taxes and supports your local community and then wonder why bookstores and computer stores are going out of business? Different world than the one our grandparents grew up in.
  22. First understand that this is totally analog and the 720 is misleading as that TVL, but actually recording is 960H (fancy number that means 480P widescreen). So IP is likely out of the question for you, so let me recommend something that is crazy cheap, uses obsolete coax but is truly 720P (for live view and recording). This technology is HDCVI. I would never install it anywhere since I'm an network camera bigot, but here's the link to the sale Costco is having on it for $499 - http://www.costco.com/Q-See-8-Channel-720p-HD-Security-System-with-2TB-HDD-and-8-720p-Cameras.product.100104432.html
  23. Let make the assumption that you don't know what you are doing and these are Hikvision made cameras although they look different, no tightening nut or chrome ball on the mounting base. Swann will not help you unless they are connected to an NVR, just their thing. First get your hand on some tools from here - http://www.hikvision.com/en/download_more.asp?id=1178 Install a program called SADP and make sure WinpCap is installed with it, if there's any sign it doesn't, reinstall WinpCap from it's own website, winpcap.org. Plug the camera into a PoE switch or injector connected to your network and give it a minute two power on. Only do one at a time. Run the SADP program and if you are lucky, it will find it. Hikvisions tend to default to 192.0.0.64. Select the camera and on the right, enter an IP address, subnet mask, gateway that would work in your home network. Try 12345 as the password and click save. If that worked, the double click on the IP address in SADP and it will bring up a browser to that address and you should be able to login as admin/12345.
  24. Cool, both cameras look sharp. I have a Hik cam on the water by me and found lowering sharpening got rid of some of the blockiness and artifacts. How did you embed the weather, via BlueIris?
  25. Shipping it back can cost as much as the camera so they are more than happy to do it knowing most people won't.
