  1. From what I've seen on my M10 series cameras it's glued in. What I recommended in past is to glue on a ring from a camcorder telephoto or wide angle lens kit and then screw on the lenses. This is what people did to change focal length on Flip cameras. The one person I recommended this too did it and was happy. Go on YouTube and search for flip lens hack.
  2. They had the 3MP for a while now, I think it's pretty close to the same price.
  3. It records at the camera resolution like 3MP but only can display at 1080P. If you want to see the full 3MP or more resolution video then you need to login from a PC and use the client to view more than 1080P.
  4. I will ask ACTi at their booth at the ASIS show for you tomorrow.
  5. That's a feature of the new firmware, LOL. Seriously, my guess is that while mounting it, some connector got lose or you pinched a cable putting the dome back on. Take it down, take the dome off, take the black plastic cover off (i pinch it a certain way and it pops off) and go to all the ribbon cable connection points and make sure they are seated well. I've had this happen on other brands of domes as well, it's why I hate recommending domes to newbies, they can be a pain in some regards and this small dome is very tight and the cables can get pinched or pulled while reassembling it. I love the form factor, just too small for it's own good, LOL.
  6. That is not a PoE camera, you have to connect the 12V power supply included to the camera to power it and obviously the Ethernet cable. It should work fine that way. I believe the RS485 is for joystick control. Once it's up and working, if you are familiar with Dahua cameras, then forget what you know. The camera image settings are done via on OSD not via menus and you have to click on a button below the PTZ buttons to engage that. I'm at the ASIS security show this week so don't have access to one here but I'm sure you'll figure it out. That's really a good PTZ camera. Make sure it's level when you mount it and make sure the mount is very securely, once that motors start spinning that volleyball size camera around, you want it secure so it doesn't bounce when it stops panning.

    New Dahua Snapshot URL

No, the URL for a snapshot on Dahua has changed from previous firmware releases and people didn't know what the new URL was and a few here have asked. Could have been in compliance with ONVIF 2.2 as part of the new firmware release. I got the new URL from Dahua tech support, yes, they do have one.
  8. What will likely happen is you will hit the maximum email allowed with anything more than say 10-20 seconds either by your mail server or the one you are sending it to. On my E32, I click Event Configuration, Upload Video/Snapshot, click on 1,2 or 3, and you can select video or snapshot, upload period, email or ftp, what stream you want to use. Then setup an event list to trigger on motion and use that event configuration.

    Virtual server questions

The only issue I can see on a shared server is the network. 15 HD cameras can chew up a good bit of bandwidth and if they start putting other network intensive loads on the server it could be a problem. I know about Windows people, drove me nuts when I was given responsibility of SQL Server as a DBA manager, 600 Windows database servers, it's like non-Microsoft products makes them cry. You can test it home, download the free VMware Player (name is a misnomer, it's actually VMware server) - https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/free#desktop_end_user_computing/vmware_player/6_0 And create a VM on your PC and install the software and see what happens.
  10. So are you going to complain or do you want answers. For a decent mic, consider these guys - http://www.louroe.com/ If it's indoors, you can get away with a cheaper mic, many on Amazon or eBay. For example, search for cctv microphone on Amazon, plenty for under $10. Just make sure it's amplified and you have a 12V power supply to power it.

    Virtual server questions

Doesn't sound like a real IT department if they prefer Windows over Linux. I don't see a problem, just connect to the VM like any other PC. Are they going to put other VM's on the same physical server?
  12. How long it takes to email you depends on how many pictures you want, how fast your connection is and how long it takes for your phone to pickup messages. If you use POP it could be every 15 minutes, if you use say gmail, it could be a few seconds. Many cameras have email alerts, nothing new or special. For example, with ACTi cameras you can email pictures or video with Axis you are limited to pictures. Dahua on the other hand can only email you alerts, no pictures or video.
  13. Power for the mic too in most cases, not just the speaker.

    Reviews on Costco

I've tried posting reviews on Costco.com and they rarely get posted. I think it's a sham, not honest like Amazon reviews.
  15. They have a newer version that's in testing now. I decided not to try it since my cameras are working well now with 6.04.15.
  16. Cherry Wae can probably get you Dahua cameras, she just can't get them to people in the U.S.

    Dahua firmware

What do you mean? A snapshot when you click the snapshot button on the web interface or a snapshot via URL command?
  18. TLA is "three letter acronyms", LOL. I can tell you it's the opposite for me, my wholesale distributor in HK charges about $20 less for these, but I like where this is going. If I can get them for $20 cheaper and sell them for $30 more on perception, that's $50 in my pocket.
  19. 3300c has WDR, HLC, BLC all the TLA's. I believe the new cameras ending is 01 are the same except designed to sell for less money since they are using the cheaper Aptina sensor instead of the Sony Exmor. I can get them through my U.S. distributor but he said there's been no interest in them so he hasn't stocked any. There are a few authorized OEM distributors in the U.S., not sure it's worth getting from China with the high shipping and warranty issues.
  20. The audio, when you buy a mic and speaker is sent through the h.264 signal. With the latest firmware, you can record to SD card and playback from the camera, no PC needed.

Change the video setting to MJPEG and see if it helps.

I'm sorry, had Dahua on the brain, yes, I have both, Dahua and Hikvision on Milestone XProtect. I removed the Hikvision bullet which has the 12mm lens and moved it to another property and waiting to replace it but it worked fine via ONVIF.

I record using Milestone XProtect using ONVIF with Dahua cameras and do not have an issue with frame rate. Also used it with Synology and it too had no issues with Dahua and frame rate.

    iPhone 5s and 5c

Finally got through on the AT&T website at about 12:40am and got my order in. The email from AT&T said I should get it between the 1st and 10th. Now I can have my Galaxy S4 and iPhone 5s side by side to see if a 64 bit phone can indeed dial a phone number faster than an ordinary 32 bit phone.
