The largest in the business is Assa Abloy, or HID Global in the U.S. What I like is that software and cloud solutions available from several vendors, large partner network, trusted brand. We started with a four door system and have been adding to it every few months. One we were looking at but customer didn't buy off on it was Bright Blue from Schlage. Closed system in that it only works by dialing into their control panel, but had some unique wireless features. Geared towards the smaller install. Frankly, I would avoid closed proprietary systems because what the customer sees is the software and if they don't like the interface in a proprietary system, they are stuck, with an open system like HID Global OPIN (Edge and VertX controllers), if they don't like the software, there's many to chose from.

Costco AvertX vs Swann Bullet Cameras?
buellwinkle replied to Ziegeid's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I've been use Milestone XProtect, decent web interface and smartphone apps and comes in different price flavors from the free GO version to what I'm using which is Essential at $50/cam. Also used it with BlueIris and Synology, both worked too. -
Terminology?
buellwinkle replied to fixit9660's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
There are cameras that play recorded videos like Hikvision and Mobotix. But being able to view from the camera is a choice, you can certainly look at a list of files and play it from a NAS. -
What are you using for access control? Big job if you never done it before. The lightning comment is hilarious, like cable buried in the ground is going to attract lightning, what about all the utility cables in all the streets. The camera will easily draw lighting first as they usually are mounted high and stick out.

Terminology?
buellwinkle replied to fixit9660's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
You don't have to use the camera to view, you can sift through the files and use their player to play the videos. So why do you want to this, because it's free, because you don't need a PC, because you feel having a large collection of recorded events is the way to go? -

If running Ethernet cable to the barn is not practical, you can get a pair of Ubiquiti Nanostations Loco for under $100 and create a wireless bridge between the structures. -

Not network engineer, software engineer. I tried, but it's just not the least bit intuitive and I installed several NVR solutions, heck, I have 3 different ones running one PC at the moment. The demos at the booth all worked flawlessly. I told them all the trouble I had with their product and like marketing people, they said it's all improved in the new release. Maybe they'll be at the ASIS show next month Chicago, which reminds me I have to get the travel setup. But it's free to download and use, give it a shot. -

That's a good price for the Dahua PTZ vandal dome. -
There's no known limit to Ethernet as long as you have enough money, anything is possible. My biggest run is 1,600', what is that, about 500m? By itself, an Ethernet cable can only be 100M long. To make it longer, we used Cat6 shielded burial grade cable and Ethernet extenders and it works great. There's different brands, I don't have the brand name we used with me but if you are having trouble finding them, PM me and I'll look up the brand we used. Don't know what your skills are, but I would put it in conduit and have a pull box every 100'. The reason is you don't want a mole, gopher, ground squirrel, rat, to chew the cable and ruin a lot of work and you need pull boxes because the 22awg wire in Cat6 is very thin and if you pull too hard you can damage the cable. You can pull it as you lay the conduit or you can pull 100' at a time, just use cable lube.

IR Light Strip for IP Nightvision?

3rd party Fisheye compatible with Geovision
buellwinkle replied to pkoi's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I have used Mobotix Q series and it worked well but day only (nor IR cut filter). Played a little with the ACTi and they worked well during the day, a little dark a night. The Axis 5MP M3007 seems like a good value, and their 5MP sensor is decent but is indoors day only. What's cool is the Mobotix S15 with fisheye sensors, one for day, one for night. You can mount them flush in the ceiling and tiny. -

Native iOS Friendly Streams
buellwinkle replied to holmrun's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I think he wants to host it on his own webpage, not use NVR solution that has a web interface, but I could be wrong, but a jpeg push is another way. A while ago someone had a script to do it from Foscam cameras, where he retrieved a jpeg from the camera and displayed it using javascript in a loop to get motion video. -

I've done booth duty for several companies and based on the venue, the size of their booth, and flying everybody in from Russia, that booth had to set them back at least $250K, so they must be serious about their product. Don't even get me started about their booth babes with the Russian accents, very inspiring. -
IR Light Strip for IP Nightvision?
buellwinkle replied to jdoggg1's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
With 940nm you get about have the effective range as 850. 6A seems like a lot but at 12V it is 72W but when you plug it into a 120VAC, that's 7.2W, about the same power as night light. 300 LEDs over a 5m length, about 16 1/2'. Is the idea to put a strip along say the eave of your house with the camera in the middle? The LEDs have a 120 degree spread, that's a lot of light not focused where you camera is focused, which may be 60-75 degrees. I wonder if they have ones that have a narrower beam, maybe 90 degrees at most. -
NVR and IP cameras
buellwinkle replied to atari37's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Even if there was an issue of 3MP not working, you can certainly configure the 3MP camera to 1080P and that would work fine with the NVR. The Dahua PTZ is 1080P, they have a 3MP on their website, but none of the Dahua distributors I use have it. They also have a 720P which is a little cheaper but not much, like $100 less, again, just because it's on their website does not mean it's available. -
Terminology?
buellwinkle replied to fixit9660's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
If you are not looking for an easy to use solution that's pre-baked for you, many cameras can FTP video events to an FTP server of your choice for example ACTi & Dahua can FTP video events, they have no way of managing it or playback in the camera, but you can take the files and install the ACTi or Dahua player, double click on the files in Windows and it will start playing them. Not saying it's bad, I've done that before for example when Dahua just started showing up in the U.S., not many NVR solutions would support it and the ones that did didn't work well so I had no other choice but to FTP videos, just to get them in my reviews. -

SAMSUNG IP Camera with FREE recording software?
buellwinkle replied to missmimi's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Yes, working on 3 reviews at once. -
The latest firmware breaks the FTP function, so you may be going from really bad to not working at all, tough choice. You can always record using free NVR software and there's a bunch to chose from. Or you can switch to Hikvision, better image quality, freely available firmware and can write to an NFS mount and playback from the camera, no weird ftp directory structures.

NVR and IP cameras
buellwinkle replied to atari37's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Yes, the Dahua PTZ (SD6982a) is very nice, 1080P, 18x zoom and IR illuminators, compatible with your NVR, sold a bunch of them. Just a warning, they are a great price for what they do, just don't expect it for dirt cheap like under a grand. If by affordable, you mean you want a toy, I've seen the Foscam PTZ for about $429, but VGA resolution, 10x zoom and it's a Foscam and not sure it's compatible with your NVR. Also, the Agasio with 3x zoom is even cheaper at under $200, same company as Foscam. -

SAMSUNG IP Camera with FREE recording software?
buellwinkle replied to missmimi's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Some brands offer free software specific to their cameras, some good, some not so good, have not tried Samsung. Try Milestone XProtect Go. Milestone is the leader in the industry and has very expensive software but they make the GO version available for free for up to 8 cameras and includes a nice web interface and free IOS and Android apps to view the cameras and recordings. This way if you buy multiple brands of cameras in the future, you won't have to switch and relearn a new one. Another free one is Axxonsoft, some people love it, some hate it. It's free for the first 16 cameras and 1TB of storage. Zoneminder and ISpyConnect are open source (completely free).
