Availability of HFW3200S, February...March...April?
buellwinkle replied to EOppie's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
A lot of noise is subjective, but it's comparable to the larger 1080P bullet, the ipc-hfw3200C. Clearly there are lights on in front of the home so it's not true darkness, but most people have street and porch lights on their driveway. Is it as smooth as an Axis P33 with lightfinder or a Mobotix b&w sensor, no, but it's not the same price either. -
Avigilon vs Sony?
buellwinkle replied to what-da's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Come to Vegas, ISC West kicked off today, you can play with them all in person at the Venetian Hotel. They still have rooms, even at the Venetian. -

Yes, I put it on BlueIris initially but I didn't have the CPU power to do so and I backed it out but they do work. -
SD vs. DVR vs. cloud storage?
buellwinkle replied to stanw's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
We use SD storage for cameras at remote locations where we have low traffic and poor access to store the video otherwise. It's invaluable in those situations and we use Mobotix that provides the NVR solution in camera. Take an inexpensive camera with an SD where it's hard to manage searching and extracting recorded video and it's not as viable a solution. Some cameras like Axis provide CMS software for viewing the recorded video from a PC. You can get a Dropcam, 720P video stored in cloud but then you have to pay about $100/yr for each camera to store your recordings. I like the concept, just not sure if it's feasible, say you have 4-8 cameras, it can quickly add up and then you have the network costs, can't just use a cheap DSL line. Axis has a partner solution with their Edge storage and a cloud provider that's more of a commercial solution. The question is are you ready for that much of an expense and if you are using Foscams, my guess is not. As for an NVR or a PC with NVR software, that's the way to go for most homes. This way you can view all your cameras at once, you can save the recordings to cheap internal HDD, and have decent search capabilities. -
What video card for Axxon Next with 5mp cameras?
buellwinkle replied to FishFish's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Checked the specs on my desktop and it has an NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M chip that supports OpenGL but the OpenGL driver from NVIDIA didn't come out till late 2012, so I did my test on Axxon without this driver. -
Acti E31 E32 E33 D31 D32 Whats the scoop?
buellwinkle replied to Agentchuckles's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I'll ask about the sensor size later this week when I'm at ISC but maybe Ando can respond. As for the IR, even better, you can turn the IR LEDs off separately from the IR cut filter as menu choices. -
What video card for Axxon Next with 5mp cameras?
buellwinkle replied to FishFish's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Good to know. I don't have a discrete video card on my desktop where I tested so didn't know a video card can make such a difference. When I ran it, it ate 1 full core per camera, on the 4th camera my quad core PC became unresponsive, took me a while just to bring up task manager to kill the process to stop it. It's likely they made performance improvements since I tested it a few months ago. I'll give it another test, but before I do, what's the best bang for buck video card that will improve performance on Axxon? My NVR PC (running BlueIris) I believe has a video card slot, I'll have to open it up and see. -
$1100: Aliexpress Dahua setup vs Qsee vs Swann
buellwinkle replied to perrin's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Just do it, what do you have to lose? You don't like it, return it to Costco. -
$1100: Aliexpress Dahua setup vs Qsee vs Swann
buellwinkle replied to perrin's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Sam' club has the same Q-See system as Costco but gives you an 8 channel NVR with cameras I believe for $100 more. The Q-See domes are day only, I thought you wanted to see at night. The Swann has double the resolution as the Q-See but it's an unknown where we already know the Q-See mini bullets do leave something to be desired. Costco offers 90 satisfaction warranty, get both and see which one is better, return the one you don't like. If price is a criteria, get IPSCam or Aote, less expensive than Dahua. If going with a known entity is important, Geovision, Vivotek, ACTi are known brands from Taiwan that have been around a while and may not be that much more expensive. -
Looking at Foscam FI9821W and a Dropcam -- Suggestions?

Did you put the latest firmware on the E31, they added controls for WDR and noise reduction. -

Domes can be mounted on the ceiling on a wall. I have personally two indoors, one mounted on a wall, the other on the ceiling. -
Q-See 1080p IP Dome Camera at Costco $199, $149 at BJs
buellwinkle replied to mikegerard's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Haha, can see 100' in the dark, good one. Just not sure you'll be happy with what it sees which is nothing. Get the Swann deal at Costco.com, 4 1080P IR cams plus 8 channel NVR, plus 2TB drive for $899. The problem with the 4 channel Q-See deal at Costco is that it's only a 4 channel NVR, if you want to add more you are stuck. The cameras it comes with have a 6mm lens which is too narrow a field of view for most people. -
Looking at Foscam FI9821W and a Dropcam -- Suggestions?
buellwinkle replied to stanw's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Dropcam is design for people that are not technical. It connects to the cloud and you can view the camera for free or pay a fee and the cameras records to the cloud. You then connect to their website to view the camera and recordings. There's no router firewall settings you have to worry about, you don't have to record to anything in your home. Foscam is for people that want to dip their toe into IP cameras and are OK with something that may break in a few month, has poorer image quality. They are cheap, you get what you pay for. That's been my experience and I buy them to review and turnaround and sell them used before the break. I personally use ACTi at home, the D54 is their latest IR dome. You have to record to a PC running their free software (or someone else's software). They run around $230, $30 more you can get the 3MP version, the D55. ACTi provides a free IOS apps that works with their NVR software but there plenty of apps for smartphones from free to a few bucks. -
Dahua camera in conjunction with Surveillance Station

Just get cameras that are officially supported by Surveillance Station. Why go out of your way to buy something that may not work? -
2 1080P IR Bullets at Costco for 349
buellwinkle replied to buellwinkle's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
They do have the q-see 1080p mini dome but it's not day/night and no built in IR illuminators. I believe they are $199 each. -
2 1080P IR Bullets at Costco for 349
buellwinkle replied to buellwinkle's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
That's the Hikvision spec for a standard camera but comes with different lenses, but actually the Coscto Swann version has a wider lens as it shows a 75 degree viewing angle which according to a lens calculator, that's a 2.8mm lens. Also, the specs show it has WDR. -

buellwinkle replied to buellwinkle's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
There's a Hikvision office near Los Angeles, just not aware if they sell their products here under their brand name. They have a booth at ISC West diagonally across from Axis and Mobotix, so I can ask them next week. -
Are they any good? Here's one pushing cameras at what looks like decent prices -

Canadian Camera Companies
buellwinkle replied to buellwinkle's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Says "made in Canada", so doubt it's OEM Chinese. They need outdoor cameras to compete though and software compatibility. Should be decent quality with the Sony Exmor sensor. -
Interesting read on Avigilon
buellwinkle posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Both IPVM and myself do camera reviews, but IPVM is a pay for service more geared towards a security company. What's interesting is their rant on Avigilon. http://ipvm.com/report/avigilon_ad_critique http://ipvm.com/report/avigilon_not_actual -

One brand new, never used Empire ESC-HFW2100 (Dahua IPC-HFW2100) for sale, $150, shipped free in the U.S., will take Paypal. Still waiting for the dome I ordered but after 4 months, I'm going admit to myself it's never going to happen. Maybe get the Avigilon dome instead. -
Empire Security RMA? (SOLVED)
buellwinkle replied to Dâniel Fraga's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
So I guess you bought nothing, you RMA'ed nothing, you just write about nothing you know about. So you hear his side and he's very good at blaming others, not taking responsibility. I ordered a dome camera, he shipped me a bullet, I never even opened the box. I emailed him, no response for 2 days, I called and got a lot of BS, no dome camera. I realized he was tired from traveling and gave him one more chance the next day and no luck. He threatened me with lawyers, saying that he will send me the camera I ordered if I sign what his lawyer was going to write. Did I threaten to give him bad eBay feedback and mention this on the forums, yes, same as I would do with any eBay reseller that messes up and doesn't make it right. I know people make mistakes, the difference is do they own the mistake and make good on it. He did not. So sure, all those that bought from him and didn't have a problem are all very happy, but isn't that why people read feedback scores and maybe a 98% is not that good, sure, 98% happy but it's the 2% that had issues that were not resolved are what I look for before buying anything on eBay. So you have to ask yourself, before buying from him, are you feeling lucky? -
IP camera for my dining room
buellwinkle replied to gianry's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
That would make sense, depending what QNAP supports, Axis, AVTech, Brickcom all make wireless cubes that are pretty small, come in higher resolutions and come with wall/ceiling mounts. In that price range, they tend to all have white light LEDs as IR with day/night cut filter puts it out of your price range for a quality camera. Keep in mind with WiFi, you should be close to your WiFi router or repeater because the radios in these cameras are not as strong as what you may have in your laptop and low signal strength combined with interference from every day objects like a microwave oven or vacuum cleaner may cause signal loss. An alternative to WiFi as it clearly limits your choices of camera dramatically, is Powerline. I wish they had an affordable solution with PoE but for now you can piggy back the PoE injector on the Powerline adapter as many have outlets on the back. For example, the TRENDnet TPL-304E2K plugs directly in an outlet, and the injector piggybacks on it. Then you can get a nice PoE IR dome camera, even Dahua if you wish, or check out the ACTi D71, may fit in your price range. Check out this forum post for Powerline viewtopic.php?f=19&t=34762
