  1. M1114 is supposed to have good low light color capability but no audio. I have a TCM-4301. It's ok but not great but it does have audio and for the price the performance is good.
  2. I am having a problem getting the Sanyo 2300 to switch from color mode to b/w mode automatically. It is set to Auto and I have played with the luminance trigger levels. Also AGC(gaincontrol) is on and greyed out. Not sure if the two are connected but according to the manual you cannot turn off AGC if day/night mode is set to auto. Switching day/night to something other than auto does not give me control of AGC. Any ideas? (firmware has already been updated)
  3. It's a 2300. It turns out it was switching to B/W but it was not doing anywhere near as soon as I expected. The sensitivity can be adjusted of course but I have had only had a couple of short opportunities to do so. I think with a little more experimentation I should be able to get it adjusted properly.
  4. I had the same issue. I used Coreftp also.
  5. You have to call Sanyo technical support

    Broadcasting with IP cameras

The 2100 does not do audio only the 2500 does.
  7. I've asked this before. The key word is "need". An auto iris lens is important with CCD sensors because of the potential to damage the sensor if it is exposed to an excessive level of light. CMOS sensors on the other hand do not have this problem so you do not "need" an auto iris lens. So the better question is do auto iris lenses provide some additional benefit over manual iris lenses when using CMOS sensor cctv cameras? I'm no expert on the subject but consider this ancedotal evidence. Most major manufacturers offer most of their IP cameras with auto iris lens capability. In fact the only 2 that I can think of that don't are Iqinvision and Arecont. Arecont actually does have some models with that as an option but none of its D/N models do. Are Arecont and Iqinvision just being stubborn? Kind of like Mobotix or Iqinvision arguing against H.264? Axis is pushing out new cameras now that use a P iris lens and I noticed ACTI is jumping on that bandwagon too. Pure marketing hype? http://www.axis.com/files/whitepaper/wp_p-iris_38023_en_1009_hi.pdf I have gotten the impression from past answers that some think auto iris lenses are simply serve no purpose with CMOS sensors. Or have I misinterpreted? Why do they sell models with it as an option?
  8. Absolutely no argument from me on that score. My first thought after i read the initial post was how I could do this with something other than surveillance cameras. I was just thinking there is no point in us posting a bunch of solutions that don't fit the requirements of the project. Yes, not only are there better tools, but a six pack of digicams is likely cheaper than some of the VMS applications that are being proposed. Best, Christopher
  9. That was the point of my previous post. He confirmed he is trying to use IP cameras to do this. Obviously there are better tools if he is simply trying to create a film but he is, for his own reasons, trying to do this with IP surveillance cameras. Why not just use digicams that support video? They are dirt cheap compared to security cameras and take video that is far superior. In addition, NLEs like Premier and Final Cut will import the video without any problem. Best, Christopher

    Help needed choosing lens

The newest one, the SL183, should be going for around $250 or so.
  11. My impression from the initial post was the point of this project was to use IP cameras to create this film. Perhaps the OP can clarify.

Have you looked at Theia? http://www.theiatech.com/
  13. Exacq and Milestone are two of the biggest/most popular software providers. Milestone I know has support for a number of Samsung cameras. Exacq doesnt list Samsung but perhaps they are support through a universal driver. Someone who uses Exacq could probably tell you or contact them directly. With Arecont, were you looking at Arecont's software? I hear it is not that good which is par for the course with sofitware from IP camera manufacturers. Usually you are best off with 3rd party software. I am curious as to what model of Samsung cameras you are using. I was not aware of a 2MP model much less one that can do 25ips at full resolution. If low light is not an issue and you want to consider an alternative brand you can check out Sanyo. Arecont can also do high frame rates at 2MP. Above 2-3MP I dont think any brand is going to give you 25IPS. Axis tends to be pricey as is Mobotix. ACTI only offers 1.3MP models with 4MP models just announced but who knows when those will be available and supported.
  14. Has anyone tried the Sony SNC-CH240? I was wondering if the dynamic range was as good as the sample videos showed, how the image quality is in general for both day and night time and if you had any problems with it. The Sony website does not seem to even have a manual for it online and even the brochure is still preliminary.
  15. Go to any major hard drive manufacturer site and you will see that they have both desktop and enterprise class hard drives. You can find both types of these drives at places like newegg. Enterprise class drives often use interfaces other than SATA but there are SATA based enterprise class drives as well. For example, the WD Caviar Blacks are considered consumer drives whereas the RE3 and RE4 are enterprise class drives. The enterprise drives are designed to last longer and have better reliability in terms of errors, etc and ,without getting into to too many technical details, WD consumer drives are not designed to work with hardware RAID(real hardware RAID not motherboard based "fake RAID"). You can refer to this article as an intro on that point http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time-Limited_Error_Recovery Can you use the consumer drives to record 24/7? Of course! I have and still do. They may even outlast an enterprise class drive but on average the enterprise class drives are designed to last longer. So just saying on a bigger system with lots of activity the OP may want to consider that point. Budget, importance of reliability, etc obviously would need to be considered.
  16. Just as many seem to favor Exacq as Milestone. It depends on what features you need. Exacq will be more expensive at about $150/license. The Milestone Essential starts out at about $100 for base license(2 cameras) then roughly $50/camera thereafter. I would do some searches and you can find out various differences that may influence your decision. Other possibilities are Luxriot or Blue iris the latter being good for a home setup or so some have said. 2TB will be way more than sufficient for one camera. Depending on how many and what type of cameras you add you start running into potential issues of hardware durability(i.e. enterprise vs consumer class hardware).

    Arecont FAIL

What is the reliability of their products over the longer term? A low price doesn't help much if the camera is a paperweight after 2 years and judging by the poor build quality out of the box I'd be afraid of that.

    Mobotix--- any others?

Sure Axis, Iqinvision and Sanyo to name a few all have models that can. If that all you are looking for you can work your way through the various IP camera manufacturer websites. If you are looking for a recommendation then you need to give a better idea of what you are looking for.
  19. That is what I was trying to get at in my previous post. In the HD4600 manual it says you can configure the access names of the streams The default jpg stream is VideoInput/1/jpg/1 (the last 1 can be anything from 1-4 as there are 4 streams) The default h264 stream is VideoInput/1/h264/1 (again last 1 can be anything from 1-4). I dont see this as an option in the 4000manual. Maybe you can try the default name for the 4600. If that does not work I dont know how else you can figure it out.In which case do as Harrar says and contact Sanyo.
  20. My best guess would be to take a look in the setting and see if you can specify an access name for the stream like you can in the successor 4600.
  21. Problems continue to plague me with this camera. I don't know if I am just having bad luck or it's the product. I am still having connection problems with the camera. I upgraded to the newest firmware and even rolled back to a slightly earlier version. I determined it is the camera and not milestone. The camera periodically(maybe every 3-4 minutes) loses connection to the cameras. The camera makes a rattling noise when it does lose connectivity as if it is rebooting which is probably what is happening. I have tried powering it by 12V and PoE. I tried different network cables and even a different switch. It happens whether using Milestone or not. At a loss what else to try. If anyone has any other suggestions I am all ears. I am going to try contacting Sanyo support again on Tuesday.
  22. I am still waiting to hear back from Milestone on this and wanted to see if anyone had thoughts on this issue it would be appreciated . I am running Milestone Essential 1.0a with latest device pack and a Sanyo VCC-HD2100 and an Axis 2100(will be slowly adding more cameras to system). The Axis works fine but the Sanyo has some connectivity issues. First, you cannot see the preview in the Management program. It says cannot establish connection to camera. Also, you cannot configure video properties(i.e. resolution, etc) because it cannot connect to camera. You can view the camera in the client and it does record. You can configure the camera through internet explorer. It is using the default u/n password. The second issue is in the client periodically it says server lost connection to camera. This seems to particularly happen when motion occurs. On the first issue, I had a thought it was somehow related to admin rights on the camera but as I said it is using the default username and password. When the camera was added I think Axis is supposed to verify it has access to the camera so it seems like that should not be a problem but that is the best I can come up with at this time.
  23. It was another camera with early firmware. I upgraded the firmware with Internet Explorer 6 on a Win XP Pro machine to the latest version. I actually did not think to ask them if this will be ongoing problem or not. They said they had just determined there was nothing wrong per se with the early cameras. But as you asked did they fix the problem in firmware with upgrading firmware or not? Given they previously said it was an issue with early firmware versions only my guess would be yes but the only way to know is to roll the firmware back to an earlier version and then reapply a newer version with Internet Explorer 8. Did you actually upgrade your 2300? What firmware version did it come with? My main was something like 1.00-05 and the sub was 1.00-00. If your camera came with a newer firmware and you were able to upgrade your firmware with something other than IE6 or 7 than that probably answers the question.

    ip camera .. need help??

Never heard of it. It is not on milestone's supported hardware list. The best you can hope for from milestone is that the universal driver will work and give you some basic functionality otherwise I think you are out of luck as far as milestone.
  25. An update on my Sanyo saga. I sent back my 2100 and got a 2300 this time around. It came in today and.....same problem! Another call to Sanyo support revealed the source of the problem. If you run it in IE6 or 7 on Windows XP then it will update. I rolled back IE to 6 and it worked. I didn't have time to see if my Milestone issues are resolved but at least it's progress.
