  1. No, the I4s. I've used the analog A4s for perimeter protection on some residences and never had these issues with exporting....just problematic on the I4s. Previously a firmware upgrade or adjustment on the time setting fixed the issue, but that isn't working on the two I just bought in the past month.
  2. They're being used for covert applications - deployed for a few days at a pop and then retrieved for video export. I'm using Panasonic cameras with it.
  3. Primarily for customers. The application requires the units to be powered on and off frequently and exporting video is essential. I've always been able to get it going previously after adjusting settings but not the units purchased in the past month. I was hoping the Avigilon buy out would improve the units, but I'm having more issues than ever now. I did upgrade to Avigilon View. Currently using 4.6.2 but scaled back to 4.4.0. If it's user error on my part, that'd be great, I just need to find out what it is. I don't want to jump ship..
  4. I have a PTZ camera that records to an SD card but I'd like to have it record directly to an SSD drive so it can be encrypted. Does anyone have experience with this? If so, any input on how to go about this?

    Recording to SSD

Thanks...looks like a good option. Any rec on where to buy?

    Recording to SSD

I'm not looking to encrypt the stream, just the drive where video is stored. I suppose the solution would be as MaxIcon suggested - TrueCrypt on a partitioned hard drive where a VMS is housed along with the recordings. This will be integrated into a system all running on 12 volt and low power consumption and small form factor is essential. Any in-vehicle computer recs?

    Recording to SSD

I appreciate the input. I didn't know if this was possible but the goal is to record to an encrypted drive of some sort so if the camera is stolen, the video isn't viewable by the thief. MaxIcon's suggestion seems like the way to go.
  8. VideoIQ is the best solution to your problem. If it's too pricey, go the PIR route.

    Bomb blast @ my home

The guy is in Peshawar...he could be targeted for a bomb attack for any number of minor reasons. I hope they catch the culprits...good luck and stay safe.

    Need help catching illegal dumpers

Here is one with 940nm IR. Slightly over you budget. There are other better options but they are pricier than Reconyx. http://www.reconyx.com/shop/Security_Series%3A_Surveillance_%26amp%3B_License_Plate_Capture_Camera/96

Recommendations for 8 IP camera installation. $5k budget

You can get either an NVR or configure a PC with VMS. We usually use NVRs.

Recommendations for 8 IP camera installation. $5k budget

You can definitely get a 8 cam Dahua system as you described for under $5k. With installation, it may be more.

How useful is cctv for residential use?

buell, How are the cameras with PIR, pretty reliable? I see Hikvision has one such unit. Always nice to have lower cost alternatives.

How useful is cctv for residential use?

Re: VideoIQ, yes if you tie it in to a monitoring station you can provide the monitoring station instructions on what to do (call you, dispatch PD, etc)...or you can self monitor and do the same.

How useful is cctv for residential use?

I had the same issue as you until I upgraded to VideoIQ and tied in a monitoring station. Now I essentially have an intrusion zone around my residence. It's a bit pricey, but before my camera system was pretty much useless, now it's anything but.
  16. Of course he's not doing it for free, he'd be insane if he were. If you look at the total package, 6 camera system installed for $2k, it is not a bad price. I doubt you'd find many other installers who would match the price but maybe you should seek other quotes to ease your mind. If it were me, I'd want high def, but if you go that route be prepared to pay more.

Please Help or Give Advice for 64 IP Camera System

The Dahua NVR will record at 3MP. We've had 13x 3MP cameras recording on the 16 channel version without issue. There is an issue on the display however - the display codec won't support more than 3 or 4 3MP cameras on the main stream. So you have cameras dropping on display unless you go to 16 channel view when it falls back to the substream, but the recordings are fine.

    Dahua NVR Display Issues

Our distributor tested and also experienced the same problem. So I'm assuming its a codec issue across the board in the NVR line.
  19. We recently installed a Dahua 16 channel NVR with 13 Hikvision 3MP cameras. The NVR claims to be able to support up to 160Mbps and up to 5mp. While the system is recording at 3MP without issue, if we have more than 3 cameras running at 3MP the VGA and HDMI output display gets buggy. Random cameras will drop off and show just black in a window. Playback at the NVR is the same. Views on PSS and the web interface though are good to go but cell phone views result in the black screen. Has anyone else observed this issue? Anyone found a fix? We'd like to record at 3MP while also being able to display on numerous monitors.
  20. The units we installed are recording 24/7. Our vendor tested with motion and said they work without issue however.
  21. We use Hikvision cameras with Dahua NVRs frequently without issue. If using the Dahua NVR, you can use PSS also without problem.
  22. No, we haven't. That said, our clients aren't streaming 24/7 nor are they streaming in HD. If I recall correctly, it runs $15 per GB of overage.
  23. TWG, We do the M2M account also for our customers. You can get up to 50gb on a shared account. We find putting all of our clients into a shared account is nice to prevent from overages, etc. You can also open multiple accounts.
  24. Right, it wasn't a bad deal for us as we have 10+ devices. If you only need it for one personal, it's a tougher pill to swallow. We however wouldn't stray from Verizon, their coverage far outperforms the others.
  25. You may not have the fee. Verizon and At&t didn't use to charge it. It's a fee levied for public facing static IP addresses. Verizon and AT&T now issue private (locked) IPs on their mobile broadband. To get it unlocked and public facing, you have to pay...without doing so, remote access doesn't work.
