  1. We do reliable streaming on 3g and 4g connections for covert applications all the time. You definitely have to scale back the quality and rates. We usually stream on CIF res at low bitrates. If you tried high def, forget about it.
  2. Aside from the camera it would still be far more expansive than $300. Depending on what wireless carrier you use, Verizon and AT&T charge $500 just for a public facing IP address now.
  3. PTZ camera, cradle point routers, aircards, deep cycle battery with solar, outdoor enclosures, etc for $300...on what planet?

    Hikvsion Cams on Dahua NVR

I haven't personally tried it but one of our distributors informed us they would. They actually recommended using the Hikvision cameras with the Dahua NVR versus the Hikvision NVR.

    Need IP/PoE solution

+1 on VideoIQ. We're using them for perimeter security at numerous residences and it works great.

Camera layout / type / opnions

Personally, if you don't mind spending a little extra, I recommend a VideoIQ solution for the home. I have one installed on my residence and we install them for locations where security is paramount. It allows you to turn the entire perimeter into an intrusion zone with reliable real-time alert.
  7. I recently had a customer have me come out to inspect their Dahua NVR because it was beeping. When I arrived I was surprised to find the VGA cable to their monitor was completely melted through. I assume this was due to a lightning strike...has anyone else seen this happen through the VGA cable? Cameras and power supply were fine likely since they were protected by surge protectors.

    Power surge?

They had the monitor plugged into a different outlet than the nvr. The monitor is still functioning.

I did take a photo with my phone and I'll get it uploaded soon.

    help with designing a system

There is no low end solution besides a PIR monitor and alarm and I'm not sure how they'll be affected by waves. Video won't work for motion detection unless you want to be up all night for false alarms. If you want a video solution, you need something like VideoIQ...but again, that's not a low end solution.
  12. I've been told the R series rack mount should be ready to ship by mid-May...as for the R series version of the A4, no word unfortunately
  13. If you're relying on motion detection based systems to alert you - get ready for hundreds of false alarms to be emailed to you daily...that is why I suggest the VideoIQ solution.
  14. You have a central station monitor the video (same concept as your alarm system).
  15. The remote monitoring paired with the VideoIQ intelligence is aimed to prevent the break-in/home invasion...not just try to document it for after the fact in the hopes you have an ID shot.
  16. We've done this for a few clients with security concerns...basically we add another layer of security - a zone around your house utilizing VideoIQ and video monitoring. Our theory is why wait until the threat is inside to active an alarm, get eyes on when they approach so a response can be initiated before they break in. We've set this up for clients with great success...so much so I'm adding it to my residence. If you want to keep costs down, use a VideoIQ Rialto A4 with four analog cameras covering the perimeter. Set your rules and sign up for video monitoring. If you need some assistance, send me a PM.

I've still got a few of these in stock if anyone is interested. Great for mobile applications...willing to negotiate!

Problems with cameras connected to POE switch

It was an IP conflict, two cameras had the same static IP....after realizing this and making the change, the issue was resolved.
  19. We were installing a 9 camera IP system and ran our own network. We have 3 POE switches all connecting to a gigabit switch which the NVR is on. All cameras from two of the POE switches are working fine, however data from the 3rd switch keeps dropping. One of the three cameras on the switch will show up, then freeze and drop out. The other two cameras to the POE switch don't even show during an IP search. We checked cable from all cameras to the trouble POE switch and all are good. The cat5e running from the POE switch to the gigabit switch is showing good too. We tried swapping out the POE switch, gigabit switch, all to no avail. We even went from the trouble POE switch to the NVR directly but are experiencing the same issue. The run from the POE switch to the gigabit switch is only 150'. Runs to each of the cameras are under 50'. I'm at a loss and am considering running a new cable from the POE switch to the gigabit switch even though my cable tester shows all pairs as connected. Any suggestions??? TIA

Problems with cameras connected to POE switch

I don't think its the wattage on the switch since I've only got three cameras on it and I use them for 4 cameras routinely. I'll bring out one of my Axis cameras to test next time I'm on site in case it is a defective Dahua unit. Appreciate the input!

    They're a dahua 2mp minidome and dahua 1.3mp bullet

Problems with cameras connected to POE switch

I made them and I replaced the RJ45s on both ends to make sure, but still nothing. I thought maybe the cable was compromised somewhere in between but then my tester shows all pairs connected...

What would you do in this situation? Equipment you would use

If you use motion alerts to email, you're going to get hundreds of false positives a day. If this is the primary requirement, then look at VideoIQ. To keep the price down, use two Rialto A4s paired with analog cameras. If reliable alerts is a "nice to have but not necessary" then you can certainly get a few Dahua IP camera options for under $300.
  24. I hope you have a great internet connection at the site. One problem I've found with Dahua is that unless you've got some incredible speeds, remotely accessing and downloading footage is a royal pain (it takes forever).
  25. We install systems as a small part of our business..and while I'd love to only install quality systems like VideoIQ, Axis, and others, being a small player and by default catering to small businesses whose determining factor is price, it's a no-go. We do install a good bit of Dahua IP cameras simply because we can offer it at a price comparable to standard definition, and I'd take Dahua IP over analog any day (aside from some low light situations). We've had these systems deployed for about a year so far, with no notable issues yet . That said, on our covert systems that we use for higher end applications, we don't use any Dahua...just VideoIQ, Panasonic, Axis, etc.
