Wow, I thought that I have seen it all.
-
That's the same thing for me, the video quality of these cameras, when compared to what they actually cost, it's not worth to even look at. And another thing is that cost of the Video software, I stil have to see a pieve of IP software that works like a regular DVR works in terms of storage and features.

He won't do it.

I got to tell you, If I where you, and if you know how to handle PC'S, I would go with a PC Based DVR, just for the fact that you will get the resolution and speed you want at a better price than a good stand alone. Everycase is different, I would, for example, recommend a Chance-I card for you, once is set up, you leave it as is and don't worry about it, plus it has a composite Video output, realtime, which you can set up to watch in any TV in the house.

Welcome to the forum to the both of you. I haven't had the chance to see the DVR running, but I have heard so many things that i can't wait to see it. One piece of advise, to get the "cctvforum" stamp of approval, let rory test it.

The man who can figure out women, is the man that I want to meet. I have a albanian friend that has a saying: "no matter what age, color, religion, background, or country, all women have the same face" I think he's right

it sounds like the server software is getting a timeout error coming from your local PC. Are you using a router? if so, which one? -
If is monitoring that is going to be the main thing, a lower end DVR might just do the trick. Spend a little more on the cameras, but the quesion is, how many cameras are you looking to put in?

They sell basically low end stuff. Not bad if you have a budget customer, better than COP, that's for sure. -
What type of location is it? Retail? Bar?

I regret that I must disagree with you, I have used that exact same combo, and the picture was if anything, usable. I swapped the lens to a Fujinion with a higher apperture setting and the picture quality was much better, plus to me, the tamron IR lens line is over rated. I have 16 lenses with toshibas 64dna cameras on a job that I did last year, and to be honest, I wasn't that impressed.

-

You can also do this. Get a NAS storage device that's big enough to handle the database. Working with AD I learned that is better to just pay the extra cash and get either a DVMS or a Premier unit, the LT'S tend to have a lot of issues. Tell your client to get rid of the service contract, since it's looking like it's costing him too much for what he is getting.
